For being honest with myself, confessing I don't believe in this bullshit anymore (Christianity) I am being kicked out of the house that was deemed a Christian house. I wish I could go back and repeatedly stab Mark, Matthew, John, and Paul before they were able to write some letters causing massing suffering.
I became a non-believer when I was a child, because my mom talked to me, being she was from a former catholic family. She prevented me from being brain washed when I was a child, because some religious family was teaching me, with the persuasion of candy as a reward for showing up. So, I am on a different side looking in and have heard lots of horror stories from people that separated from the beliefs they were raised to believe in. Welcome aboard, but practice the good parts you did learn.
Nice video! You don't need faith about deconverting people - you have evidence. Faith is about belief without evidence (websters: "firm belief in something for which there is no proof") and you know of at least your own story.
man you bring it all back to me. i know how you feel. it's legal human cruelty - mental incarceration when you're raised by religious parents - and boy isn't that convenient for the people who rule over us too! to quote some song 'it's a sad sad situation' lol - but you're freeeeeeeee
So, obviously, people still don't get what Jesus was really saying because people are creating more laws everyday...Who really wants resolution? Alot of people talk about making things better...But like the saying goes..."Talk is cheap"
No, I would not take my child to be stoned to death. Moses made up those laws because people were hard headed.Jesus said that the old law was a tutor leading to the faith, and now that the faith has arrived(Jesus),the people only have to follow 2 commandments.LOVE God and LOVE your brothers and sisters. If people trully LOVED,they wouldn't want to kill anyone,so they wouldn't NEED to follow the law that says "Do not kill".As for anyone not trully LOVING, it says to avoid bad associations.
i find that since being a muslim atheist if you know what i mean, quite probably incurs far greater risk, well at least in much of the world then i must withdraw my contention of the superiority of catholic atheists and deffer to your resolute integrity. i would be very greatfull if you would be prepared to personally mesage me to educate me as to what it means to be an atheist ex muslim. i am quite hostile to islam though i like to think not muslims as people.
That is quite reminisant of a deconversion story...something to which you still haven't done for me!!!! DAMN YOU!
I know you have posted this as a response to the other video, but if you like (sometime later) post it as a response to my deconversion stories video. Just a thought.
Actually, this is not my deconversion story. I have another video that is also reminiscent of a deconversion as well called "the lonely road towards atheism", but that isn't it either. When I do, finally, film a proper deconversion story I will surely post it as a reply to your video!
I'm curious about the Mormon/LDS tags. My de-conversion really began in New Zealand as a missionary when I wrestled with the questions I was asking of others. I try to ask my family members the 'right' questions whenever I can... I hope that some of them will think about them longer than just a few seconds. I will keep trying, no matter how hopeless it seems
Carlin believes that laughter brings down peoples guards are opens them up to listen to ideas that they would otherwise reject very easily. I'm not totally sure that I accept this, but it's very possible!
Good video. 5/5. I've "won" every debate I've ever had with a theist, because I view wining as inducing doubt/getting them to entertain the idea that they are wrong. The only way they can win with me is to refuse to debate. I don't have to convince them they are wrong, I just have to get them to think and question their beliefs (That tends to kill dogma). I don't know, maybe I have low standards.
Your "low standards" is really just a method of slow and steady. I respect that. I try to do the same with theists in the religion and spirituality section of yahoo answers.
If you admire George Carlin (as I do), I suggest you watch the Frank Zappa interviews on YouTube. A couragious, BRILLIANT & unwaveringly honest man. Gone WAY too soon.
Thanks for the service you are performing for the antitheist cause!
BTW - don't slink off without notifying me. I occasionally come across people I was subscribed to before and who opened a new account and I always go "drat! Why didn't they TELL us!? What have I missed!?"
I was also indoctrinated (baptized)as a Catholic, as my father is one, this was occurred in 1997 when I was about ten years old. Then in 2007, I was baptized a "evangelical" Christian, as my mother is one, I later regretted doing that as the "Evangelist" was very arrogant in the way he presented himself and talked about the bible. You could almost hear him say "I am right and you are wrong".
I disagreed with a lot of what he said, and ended up asking questions, for which asking questions seemed to be condemned. Even though that members of my family and of the church told me that it was alright to ask. I felt Deceived, Inveigled, and Obfuscated.
I'm lucky enough to never have been indoctrinated but I did grow up around Christians and Catholics. From the experiences I had with them, they led me to investigate it on my own. Then I figured out that it was all crap after research the actual history of the bible. But like the great Phil said, its never a loss cause, they're is always hope to convince someone to open their eyes.
I grew up without the indoctrination you describe. Instead I had periods of interest in the supernatural. I know my Dad thought it was all cr*p but he kept his mouth shut and let me read about it, only my Mum agreed with me.
I think supernaturalism (inc religion) is an insult to our intelligence and stifles emotional maturity.
George Carin and Bill Maher are both geniuses. Another comedian that I classify in the same category is Bill Hicks. If you haven't heard any of his stuff, you should search for him.
Really good video, by the way. At times, it does actually feel like religious people have this impenetrable wall up. But perturbing their minds with questions is like softening the mud. It takes time, but the crumbling of that wall can be quite sudden.
Excellent. I always find people's deconversion stories fascinating as I never personally had to deconvert. I was non-theist right up until the point I realised I was an atheist.

I have been told numerous times that I was never a "true" Christian, because if I was a "true" Christian, then I could not have become an atheist.
Yet, I believed fervently that Jesus Christ was my lord and savior.
I wonder what I did wrong that prevented me from being a "true" Christian.

You answered the question. Outspoken atheists, or any atheist, should not expect anything like instant results.
Funny how it was two comedians who raised questions within you. I don't know what that means.
Have a great weekend.

All we need to do is plant a seed... We can't change a person's mind, they have to come to this realisation themselves...
Atheistblindchick 3 years ago 2
You are correct! I should have included that the person must actually be willing to search for the truth. In my case, I was!
freetaught 3 years ago
Whereas evangelist plant 10 seeds every seconds, water them with 5 gallons a minute, and at the end of the day, say,"grow, or you shall perish!"
Should the seeds not grow, they start setting the seeds on fire.
