  • Adding Anakin to the end of ROTJ was the pinnacle of any accomplishment in the history of the Western Hemisphere.

  • Great, now I can be bored by a CGI Yoda in TPM rather than a Muppet Yoda.

  • yeh this was a good change

  • i think this one is better i hated Yoda in the original the puppet looked so wierd thank god they fixed him in clone wars

  • Considering that the phantom menace (and the prequels) were abominations that I suppress from my memory, I honestly wouldn't mind if Lucas added more Jake Lloyd/Jar Jar scenes, a song and dance number, and extended the podracing

  • worst. trilogy. ever.

  • I hate you retro fags. The prequels were decent

  • well its canon so alright

  • i don't care about that movie, but this yoda looks MUCH WORSE, than the puppet.

  • Does anyone know whether the cg yoda will also appear on dvd releases?

  • did they do this with ep 5 and 6 yoda?

  • @LordEizen no, they left the orginal old yoda like he always was.

  • @Salzblut oh good.. thanks

  • I have to say...this is the first improvement I've seen. the original muppet looked god awful.

Except he looks very, very much like a cut and paste job. Which is what it is, of course...

  • blue ray clip in 360p?

  • Pause at 0:10 it doesn't even look right!

  • I can't tell the difference. the kid still looks like a puppet

  • Am I the only one that thinks Yoda is kinda sexy...?

  • Still looks like a fuckin cartoon to me. Fuck the prequels though.

  • Wow, this is awesome.good move. maybe they will fix jabba in return of the jedi.He looks so fake.

  • THIS was a smart change. The Episode I puppet didn't really look like the one from EMPIRE and JEDI. It was hard to believe that it was the same Yoda...and that made him kinda distracting.

Lucas has made some asstastic and stupid changes to these films...but this and the Ewoks blinking are two I can get behind. Not every change has been a waste of time or insipid.

  • I love how some people listed this change among the others Lucas has done like they are comparable. Nobody is going to complain about this. Let Lucas tear the prequels to shreds for all it matters. They are already garbage, he can't possibly make them any worse than they already are.

  • @Wyrmwould the prequels aren't bad and episode 3 is easily as good as the original trilogy

  • Is there any way Lucas can use technology to cut that kid out of Phantom Menace? And maybe replace him with a head of lettuce? Not to knock the little dude too hard but he was one of the reasons Ep1 was such a steaming pile.

  • FAKE!!!

  • still looks less real than the version in empire strikes back and return of the jedi

  • It looks awesome. I wonder what CGI Yoda will looks like in Episode V, and VI?

  • It looks awesome. I wonder what CGI Yoda will looks like in Episode V, and VI?

  • 0:09 is Mace holding the iPad 3 ?

  • No biggie, this one wasn't good anyway. The only thing I lef tthe theater thinking about was Darth Maul.

  • Considering how retarded Yoda looked in the 'original' Phantom Menace, this is a plus.

  • @Scarecrow545 I guess so, but the new CG kind of sticks out among the older CG.

  • @Scarecrow545 Oh yeah you are so right. I´m happy someone agrees with me that the 4-6 Yoda puppet was awesome and the Episode 1 Yoda puppet was fucking wrong. I´m quite happy they changed it, Yoda looks much better in cgi.

  • @Scarecrow545

I agree. This is a definite plus, much like the ending song from Return of the Jedi(Yub Nub sucked) or the cool scene edits from the original Special Edition(from '97), like the flavoring and touches added to Cloud City and stuff like that...

  • @SickBritKid

Yup, agreed. I liked all the celebration scenes throughout the galaxy at the end of ROTJ as well. Though we definitely could have done without Jar Jar screaming 'wesa freeeee!' haha.

  • @Scarecrow545

I think we could have definitely done without Jar Jar, period...

  • this is the only good change

  • You know i think this CGI is one of my exceptions for changes, the old TPM muppet looked like shit, fuck kermitt the frog looked more lively than that puppet.

  • @Cinemaserials Agreed.

  • i was hoping for samuel l. jackson to be edited that he will say motherf*cker every time he finishes a sentence.

  • Speaking of inserting the characters, does anyone know if it is still Hayden Christensen in the final scene of Return of the Jedi?

  • @Nogli yes he is...

  • @Notoricus Shocking. I think the ghost change annoyed me more than any other did, even more than the 'Han shot first' thing. It was bad enough him appearing in the prequels!

It's no secret that the saga will be released over and over and over in different forms before the originals are available, just to milk it for all its worth and more. We already know it's being rereleased in 3D. So now Greedo will be able to shoot first over the audience's heads.

  • This, and inserting Ian McDiarmid's Emperor Palpatine into the The Empire Strikes Back are only remotely appropriate changes ever made.

  • Don't care what he does with the prequels. He wants to add a CGI Yoda into Phantom Menace? Great. If anything, it helps with the continuity. Whatever. He could add a CGI Tay Zonday to replace Obi Wan Kenobi for all I care. Just knock it off with the changes to the original trilogy, please.

  • @deepen2011 stfu don't give lucas anymore ideas.

  • Probably the only sensible change Lucas has made to any of the films.

Now...just edit out Jar Jar and the prequels might become tolerable.

  • they should have put CGI yoda into the original ones too!

  • @deepen2011 BLASPHEMY!!!!!!

  • I actually think changing Yoda to CGI in this one is a good move, because he's CGI in the rest of the prequels. Doesn't make sense to me how he's a puppet in only one of the prequel films.

  • The puppet in Episode I actually sucked. They didn't use the original puppet, but a crappy replacement instead. The CGI replacement is the only good change Lucas made.

Then again, it would have been better had he not made the prequels at all, or at least handed them over to other directors like the original films.

  • What's this, an improvement in the new box set? NOOOOOOOOO!

  • Are they gonna re-release Episodes 2 and 3 with Hayden Christensen replaced with someone who can actually act?

  • I am surprised GL has replaced Frank Oz's entire performance out of all the films. Having a CGI Yoda in ESB & RotJ. It wouldn't be nearly so bad if he would just make the original theatrical releases available in a blur-ray format as well. That way people could choose to watch what they want to.

  • @TNO73

Uhm, there is no CGI Yoda in Empire and Jedi. Only the puppet in Episode I has been replaced.

  • @Nardex My bad I meant it to be sarcastic, but then I realized I didn't put the n't on the end of has. Sarcasam doesn't go well in the written form to begin with but it is damn near impossible to convey if you don't write properly to begin with. Basically I am surprised GL HASN'T decided to piss more people off by CGI Yoda in V & VI.

  • This change I'm actually fine with. The puppetry for Yoda in TPM was fucking LAZY. You could tell that the puppeteer had no fucking heart in it.

  • holy shit yes please. that fucking young yoda puppet was scary as shit

  • George not only ruins childhood memories, he rapes them too!

  • Personally, this is the only change that Star Wars fans should be grateful to have gotten to EPISODE I, because The Puppet Yoda from the previous iteration of SWI was...meh, to say the least.

  • Not so upset with this change. Helps continuity. Besides; That Yoda puppet was fucking horrendous compared to the original.

  • Okay, that's actually an alright change.

  • This is the only change they made in the Blu-rays that does gobble down massive amounts of cock

  • i support it. it smothes the trilogy.

    1st trilogy, puppet

    2nd trilogy, CGI

    that's just a mistake corrected...

  • This is one of the edits that I like.

  • The puppet showed more emotion!

  • This does not look so bad (hmmm)

  • This is actually an improvement over the original puppet, but George really needs to stop fucking around with updates - and just make a new Star Wars film by an experienced director.

  • They should remake ep one altogether! Is the worst Starwars movie and almoust ruins the all story. Except for the fight in the end, but even the outcome is ridiculous... Who does a Jedi master like QuiGon loses against a Darth aprentice???... This movie still sucks!

  • WHAT!? How in the HELL is this animated model giving a weaker performance than the damn puppet? I'm not just being a CGI hater here. Usually, I'd expect more emotion through a computer animated character than a puppet. But the puppet Yoda properly conveyed the emotions in this scene and this animation isn't giving very much to the camera at all. Obviously improving the performance had nothing to do with this change.

  • "no"

    "nooooooooo"

  • Perfect. I like very much!

  • i love star wars but all you hating nerds take it too far!! get a life!!

  • Now all they need to replace is Hayden Christiansen and Jake Lloyd.

  • they should replace that fucking puppet with cgi from them gay 80s movies

  • @fleetwoodsucks films can't be gay. They don't have sexuality.

  • @fleetwoodsucks shut the front door!

  • @1983Dave1983 isnt that like a secret gay thing? Shut the door so i can enter the back door or something? I dont know.

  • @fleetwoodsucks not being harsh, but it means shut the fuck up lol. Are you serious? Replacing 80s pupet Yoda with CGI? No building, structure, person or power in the galaxy could protect Lucas if he did that...

  • @1983Dave1983 yeah i am serious, i mean puppets are good in that david bowie film, but they dont make sense in star wars, its a science fiction film it should at least look futurey.

  • @fleetwoodsucks Labyrinth? Classic. The puppet Yoda in Empire is brilliant. Watched it on Blu-Ray this morning. Puppet looks amazing. So much detail.

  • @1983Dave1983 yeah the puppets in labyrinth are great but all the crap puppets in return of the jedi look shit and need taking out.

  • @fleetwoodsucks just no :-|

If Lucas ever does that (which he won't) I'd find him.

  • This is fine.

  • Funny how A CGI Yoda replacement in Phantom menace is okay but they dare do that in the originals and everybody would storm Lucasfilm with torches and pitchforks. I'm surprised George didn't want to update that Yoda.

Fans would be out for blood for sure on that one.

  • Yoda is CGI?...*Vader Voice* NOOOOOOOOOOO!

  • wow looks seamless doesn't it?

  • This is definitely an improvement. It fits better with episodes II and III now.

As long as they didn't CGI Yoda in the originals I'm fine with this.

Anybody know If they put back the scene in ROTS where Yoda arrives on Dagobah? That never should have been deleted in the first place.

  • @STN79

they did CGI yoda in ROTJ

  • i wonder what kids who grew up on muppet tpm yoda think about this... maybe they don't give a shit...i wouldnt. removing jar jar would have been nice too...

  • Comment removed

  • I say good job on this change Lucas. The puppet Yoda in this movie was a mess. Didn't look anything like Yoda. Also, the ewok blinking is good too.

The Vader "Nooo" change, new Dragon call, and Greedo shooting first all RUIN the movies. These changes should have NEVER been made.

  • Phantom Menace leads to hate, hate leads to George Lucas suffering.

  • wish Lucas had CGI'd Jake Lloyd whilst he was at it.....

  • Comment removed

  • i am happy Lucas fixed the Yoda in episode 1, the puppet looked like he was on drugs or something lol

  • They can screw with the prequels all they want. I never watch those, but don't screw with the originals.

  • @Dethraxica015 why are so many people bitching about the blue ray

  • @Dethraxica015 too late

  • @Dethraxica015 Too late

  • @Dethraxica015 Ironicaly the "improvements" in the prequals actually improves the films, unlike theo original trilogy.

  • I love when yoda says: Fear is the past to the dark side fear is the anger anger is to hate hate is the suffering! Soo classic!

  • Hey, I like this one... But is he animated in the original trilogy films also? I'm not sure if I would like that.

  • seems rather lazily done, but i'll grant the odd colored and misshappen TPM puppet is hard to not improve upon.

  • This is a good change. I agree with it. He looks so much better... the difference was very apparent between TPM and AOTC, and I'm glad it's consistent now.

  • Hey guys, atleast there's no CGI yoda in the Original Trilogy.

  • How can people like this change???

    Pause at 0:11

    Awful, just awful.

  • @swimteamizzle1114 2 seconds of a 2 hour movie don't make a difference dude this change is good

  • i like this change

  • This I'm ok with. Lucas can fuck around with the prequels all he wants just dont touch the good stuff!

  • Yoda is fucking adorable

  • Great. The only real thing in Phantom Menace is gone.....

  • @KmorrisonNCC1701 um not true but I think that goes without saying

  • i though these were just supposed to be blu-ray, supposed to make the picture clearer. it looks like lucas just used the blu-ray as a ploy to make more changes.....

  • But the puppet used in The Empire Strikes Back still seems more realistic than the CGI yoda...

  • This I liked, the puppet they had in the original Phantom Menace was awful...

  • Comment removed

  • much better....great..!!..although he should now change empire yoda with cgi...

  • @davycrocketful NO! NO NO NO NO NOOOOO!!! The Puppet they used in the originals was amazing. And it was manipulated by a master puppetteer. If they change it in the new release they will have ruined Star Wars FOREVER!

  • @Largemanofmordor ok ok ok...ill take that back.. "mr Lucas please leave the yoda puppet in empire..

its what we love and frank ozz done a great job..!."

  • you cant change the puppets, leave the puppets be man. and this thing looks like crap. i can see the flaws... i can see the FLAWWWWSSSSSS

  • i'm cool with this because the phantom menace puppet looked stoned.

  • "maybe I should change yoda to CGI in Empire Strikes Back as well"- george lucas

  • The only complaint I have is in the wide shot, he actually looks cut and pasted in.

This is actually a fairly good change though, the puppet was just down right creepy.

  • this change isnt that bad, i agree with it, but its not well done, hes kinda not moving hes mouth, and he looks terribly cut in :/

ewok change is my favorite, obi wan scaring the sand people sucked and vaders new dialogue sucks :/

  • The best change, all the other ones are horrible.

  • Only good change. I was worried that he'd do this for the original trilogy at first haha.

  • Pity that Jar Jar is still the "star" of Episode One. :-P

  • I don't get it. Anakin still looks like a puppet.

  • @gaudog No kidding. Jake Lloyd's performance was one of the TOO MANY reasons that TPM just.......blew.

  • @gaudog You won 85 internets.

  • I sincerely can't give a single fuck about what Lucas do to the prequels, is the constant screwing to the original trilogy that worries me... still I must admit that Yoda doesn't look like a pointy eared talking cactus anymore.

  • Fuck you Lucas!! looks like I'm not buying these blu-rays!!

  • This isn't so bad.

Could we somehow replace Jake Lloyd with someone who isn't awful next time? Maybe replace Jar Jar with Lando or somebody for laughs?

  • George lucas did something....right?

  • Yeah, the Phantom Menace Yoda puppet was really terrible.

  • It's actually taking me a while to get used to. XD But it's a nice change. THANK YOU GEORGE LUCAS!!! :P

  • I like old yoda, this looks like so photoshop I SEE PIXELS!

No srsly at 00:10-00:12 it looks like hes just been put on a new layer, they didnt even blur the edges?

  • I actually liked the puppet.

  • Instead of ruining the old movies, why not CGI JarJAr out of episode1!!! That would be a great improvement. Maybe replace him with Leia in the Gold Bikini outfit???

  • I'll have to look at the difference. I haven't seen it in a long time...

  • the actor of anakin... is the worst child actor of all time... I mean what were they thinking?!

  • dam thats one bad cgi

  • He looks like he does in the Clone Wars cartoon on Cartoon Network.

  • This is a good change as the original TPM puppet looked nothing like the original Yoda from the first films!

  • 0:10 - iPad 8 in Windu's hand?

  • @funnmannbeatz

    OMG that cracked me up!!!

  • Hahahahaha

  • Yoda's not the problem here. What they need is a CGI Anakin.

  • This movie is still a piece of shit.

  • imo this is a good change. Muppet yoda was damn ugly.

  • WHY!!

  • I agree with this change, puppet Yoda in Episode 1 was creepy as hell.

  • YODA ! <3 :)

  • This change I'm ok with. Lucas can and should fuck with Episode I and II as much as possible. I don't see how even he could make them worse. The rest of them he should be banned from ever seeing again. If he at least gave us the option of watching the original theatrical movies I wouldn't care.

  • If only they could add this as an option and leave the rest untouched...

  • You could have a full on dick in pussy graphic penetration scene in Phantom Menace and there still would be no reason to see it. Fuck George Lucas for thinking anybody cares.

  • LUCAS CHANGED JAR-JARS VOICE! I uploaded the Blu-ray clip.

  • The movie was awefull but i thought the puppet they used fr yoda was funny it looked like he was stoned off his ass

  • although the new oda is 10 times better i still fuckin hate the cgi version. i mean look at it. it looks like a ps1 simulation, and look at his lip movements. he isnt even matching his words

  • I like how the CGI allows him to have more expression, but Muppet Yoda is so much more iconic. Yeah, I'm taking the Muppet.

  • @citizenkaneVII I agree. :P

  • @citizenkaneVII the puppet form episodes V-VI yes, the episode I one no

  • Is it just me or does the medium shot of Yoda, Ki-Adi Mundi and Mace Windu...make Yoda seem really out of place in that shot? I'm not complaining...just it looks....odd

  • that actually doesn't look bad but I didn't really care for this movie too much : /

  • Meh. Puppet Yoda looked out of place in Menace anyway...

  • CGI Yoda, Darth Vader's "No!", all these changes yet Jake Lloyd is still in this movie...

  • "This CGI bullshit is the death knell of cinema. If I'd wanted all that computer game bullshit, I'd have stuck my dick in a Nintendo." - Quentin Tarantino

  • @dedricthere QT makes some great films but personally I think the guy is a prick, CGI is the future of cinema.....I can just see people years ago complaining about colour 'but it takes away the drama, if I want to see something in colour I'd go watch a play'. Anyway wasn't QT a guest director on Sin City? A film which is mostly shot on green screen? I hope his mate Robert Rodriguez gave him slap round the face for such a stupid comment.
