When Eddie was six years old, he won the singing contest of DZXL8217; "Tita Betty's Children Show." He was discovered on the national scene when he won the amateur singing contest of Tawag ng Tanghalan, a popular TV variety show of the 60s and 70s. Eddie also worked as a singer for five years with the Blinkers Band in Japan. Eddie's voice was quite distinctive for a man--being unusually high pitched. His music became popular in other Southeast Asian countries, including Malaysia and Indonesia.
