@chivasboy451 You may want to make sure that you're Component input ports aren't damaged, I recently bought a used TV, and the Component 2 Video ports are damaged and will randomly drop out the blue signal.
If you've got a second input port, try putting it there and see if it still happens.
@ossyni The Optical will only output Stereo 2.0, but the games themselves can support a few types of formats, such as Dolby Surround(Pro Logic 1) or Dolby Pro Logic 2, which allows for matrixed surround sound to be taken out from the otherwise stereo encoded signal. Again, this is something that you're receiver will have to be capable of, you will have to set the receiver to Pro Logic 2 mode to hear the sound as such.
@ossyni As yeah, Pro Logic sucks, but if you've got it, I suppose it's technically better than Stereo, There are a handful of Playstation, N64, as well as Gamecube, PS2 , and a few Xbox games, that support it. The actual Pro Logic decoder kinda stinks because Pro Logic is only 4.0, Left, Center, Right and while it'll run audio to your two rear speakers, it carries a mono signal, plus the rear has a really low frequency range it can reach, and has no designated subwoofer, the sound is sparse...
Oh...and some VHS's, lol... I'd still like to buy Jurassic Park for VHS to test the Dolby Surround in it, and it's also worth noting, just as trivia, that Jurassic Park was the first film to use Dolby Digital, back when it was released in '93. Brand new technology back then, lol.
@ossyni Additionally, there are a few titles(you could probably count them on 1 hand) which use DTS Interactive, SSX Tricky, SSX 3, and Vice City are notable titles that do this, there may only be one or two more. But in the case of some games that have Dolby Digital audio encoded in the FMV files, optical audio will allow you to run that audio as Dolby Digital which will take advantage of the 5.1 Games like Wipeout Fusion, Soul Calibur 3, and Metal Gear Solid 2 take advantage of that feature.
@ossyni In short, the 5.1 signal can only be done over DVD(Movie) playback, or in Dolby Digital encoded videos in select games(most of which need to be enabled in some options menu)
There are a nice selection of games that use Dolby Surround, or Pro Logic 2, be sure to check on the back of the case, most games point it out, but there are dozens that don't, try checking the back of the game, on the actual game disc, and in the options menu. In a lot of them, you'll have to enable Surround in game
@ossyni Oops, I forgot to mention that it'll do DTS for DVD playback as well, usually if you're ever in doubt about what formats a player will support, Look on the actual player itself, in this particular case the Playstation 2 says that it supports Dolby Digital and DTS Digital Out, I only point that out because I love looking at the list of things my 60 Gig PS3 supports that they imprinted on the side of it, the list is HUGE, lol.
@ism7011 Honestly, it really depends on your TV, I hooked it up to my mom's 46" Sony brand, and its not to bad, my dads got an older Sanyo 42" and it looks particularly bad on there, that model has a poor upscaler.
Component looks outstanding on a classic CRT/Tube TV though, like I showed here. In any situation though, unless you have to, always use your Component cable, no matter what kind of TV it is, it'll ensure you're getting the best picture you can out of whatever kind of TV it is.
@mnbvcx1845 S-video is not better than component, however it IS better than the standard AV/Composite cable, it goes as such. AV < S-Video < Component
With Component you would see a noticeably better picture over S-video in the case of most HDTVs, however on a standard def TV, you'd have to look hard to see any real differences between the two.
One other thing to note is that Component video will allow you to do 480p out for compatible PS2 games, as opposed to S-video and AV's 480i.
@mnbvcx1845 S-video is better than AV cables, but not as nice as component AV < S-video < Component.
In most cases you won't see a huge difference in S-video from Component, particularly on a standard Def TV, an HDTV would be a different story, but S-video is a very nice improvement over the standard AV composite cables.
@ImYoshibacon You're welcome man, in my experience with it, the PS2 doesn't look all that great on HD screens, even in 480p, however, on a standard def TV, component video looks very nice and I can recommend it to anyone playing that way.
@mycatisromeo Why? I play a lot of older games and new TVs make them look like absolute ass. I have a 23 inch 1080p monitor that I use for playing Xbox 360 and PS3 games on.
@Indead Why is that? I've noticed Deus Ex: Invisible war for Xbox looks horibly grainy on a flat HDTV and looks crisp on an old big 25" color TV using just Yellow/Red/White cables. That's weird
i just bought a playstation 3/playstation 2 component cables but instead of getting the results that u show on ur video i get no signal when i change to component input on my HDTV. No sound no video no anything so i cant even do what ur telling me to do on the video please help me and tell me what to do about this, thanks
I just purchased a PS3 component cable to use for my PS2 because it can connect to both. I had to throw my old component cables out because they were the cheap ones with the silver prongs and the signal was bad at times giving it a dark picture. I'll say one thing though, these cables really do give the best quality, and I would highly suggest to anyone who wants to get a component cable to make sure it's the one with the gold prongs.
@usamaasif601 Games that are compatible with keyboards and mice will automatically register that you've inserted a USB keyboard or mouse, however, the reason why I have that in my video here, is because my PS2 has a hard drive installed, and it adds the option to change the mouse and keyboard settings, I'm not sure if there is any software that utilizes this, but I'm sure it had something to do with Final Fantasy XI and it's online service.
@Ps3GamerVideos The Playstation 2 can't do Dolby Digital in game, it can only do it in pre-rendered cutscenes, however the PS2 CAN do DTS in game, which they did with Vice City, unfortunately, San Andreas only has Dolby Pro Logic II, I've used the PS2's DTS in both SSX Tricky and SSX 3 and it sounds awesome.
Oh well, if a person really cares that much for Dolby Digital, get the Xbox version ;)
Hello Indead, I just want you ask you about the component cable. Are the Red, Green, Blue (Component Cables) has an audio cable (red, white)? Or we must use the optical out? Please Answer. Your video's helping btw.
@zeus13th All playstation 2 component cables I have ever seen also included the Left and right stereo audio cables (the white and red) you DO NOT have to use optical while using component, it's simply recommended.
Hopefully this will answer some other people's questions as well.
@Indead Ok thx. 1 more question please. If I use the red&white cables to my TV, can I use the optical cable to my speaker amplifier and make 2 audio outputs (1 to the TV(red+white). And 1 to the speaker(optical audio)). And thanx man...
@zeus13th Yes, both will work, enabling and plugging in an optical cable will just add another audio out option, it WILL NOT become the only audio out option, the Left and Right audio cables will still work. This always worked nicely for me, say for example I'm playing late at night, i could just turn up the volume on the TV, versus in the middle of the day I could just blare the sounds system, you never have to switch any cables or settings around. Good question.
@Indead Thanx man, now what I got to do is find the store that sells the component cable, not much of ps2 component cable sold here in Indonesia. Once again thx 4 the vid and the answer ..
hey thanks for the info! i'm currently getting rayman 2 revolution (again, because i sold it for some stupid reason) and a component cable for my ps2 through amazon and i wanted to make sure what the point of the rgb and the ygwhatever-thingy had to do with the cable switching. anyways, point is this helped alot so thanks! :D
@Haruharah2 You're very welcome, Rayman 2 is a pretty good game, and definitely a pretty game, it will really shine with a component cable, especially on a SDTV, I agree, I always wondered what it did before getting the component cable, because toggling it didn't ever do anything with the composite cables.
@Indead lol yeah it's a gorgeous game. the main reason i wanted to get these cables is because on my HDTV lower resolutions such as 480i tend to look more fuzzy than if they were played at the same resolution on a standard SDTV. so i figured if i got some component cables switching it to 480p it might help give it a little better sharpness, especially since it makes it harder to play a game if you were just playing a game like dead space on a ps3 just 2 seconds ago. so yeah thanks a ton bro!
@yehlingboy Yes you're going to need a receiver that will accept a Optical audio signal, which is digital. The receiver I used in this video is a 5.1 channel surround sound receiver, i don't believe many TVs have Optical audio inputs, however many have Digital Coaxial inputs for audio.
@Indead@yehlingboy I forgot to mention however that PS2, and in fact all of the major consoles DO NOT support coaxial audio out, they will only do Optical, or digital audio through their HDMI jacks in the case of the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Can I ask, does it matter which brand of component cables you buy? I bought a PS3 component cable from ebay that was really cheap and am using it with my PS2. While everything is definitely clearer, I almost find the picture too sharp, as games like FFXII don't look as nice (because I can see the pixels rather than on an SD TV which smoothed out the edges quite nicely). Would you advise on buying a better brand of cables, or am I likely to not notice much difference?
@Konnayaha I'll tell you what I can, I would not necessarily say go out and buy the most expensive cable you can find, however, I don't think it could hurt if you spend maybe 10, no more than 15 dollars(US) on possibly an official Component cable for either PS2, or PS3, or one of the higher quality Component cables, for example Monster cable, but you'd have to get that one used at that price most likely.
However I know the PS2 just isn't good at anti-aliasing, and has lots of jaggy problems
Nice video. I didn't know the ps3 component cables worked on a ps2 so i'm definately going to buy one now that i know it'll work. Also, does wipeout 3 work with these component cables on the ps2? I did mine by going to config first on the ps2. Set it on Y/ pb/cb pb/cr and choose 16:4.
Then I turned my ps2 progressive scan on and choose 16:4 in the option.
It flickers bad or tearing or whatever you called it. Any tips?
The game I tried is Resident Evil 4
