The sideways was an allegory for purgatory. Basically the losties going there after they die was what the jughead bomb did. What it actually was..was an parallel universe where the losties could travel to after they die to let go of each other and say goodbye. Think of Desmond travelling there in his episode, the losties did the same thing when they all died. At the end what they were doing was moving on, in other words..finally dying. Then they go to heaven or whatever you want. :D

@thecolorunknown The sideways timeline was created when they ALL died, not when Jughead went off. It was a place they created to live the life they wanted, tho it wasn't a perfect reality. Every fellow castaway was a "constant". Once everyone remembered, they were finally able to move on. Christian summed it up best. Just put subtitles on or read the article at chud.com or EW.com

I wanted to see your reaction to Juliet saying, "It worked." and "Let's go Dutch" (for coffee). :) I lost it when Vincent showed up. It made sense to me that everyone in Sideways was dead, but not all were ready to "leave" at the same time. Ben will want to resolve his issues with Rousseau & Alex. I can see him leaving with them, Richard, his dad, & maybe a few others, when it's "time". Same with Eloise, Daniel, Charlotte, Miles, etc. Each gathers with whoever they connected to the most.

if u didnt understand it ill help u. The sideways was actually the afterlife they created to find one another so they could all move on together. Jack died in bamboo forrest. The people who left on ajira lived their lives and died. Hugo and ben lived their lives as number 1 and 2 and then died. As christian said at the end, some died before him, some long after him. Sideways takes place after they all died and they moved on together when they let go. Epic ending
