  • i shall now tie dye my socks o_o

  • happy dying, pun intended :)

no, but your shirt is gorgeous

  • @ssc70402

    Thanks!

Check out FaceBook's "Addicted To Tie Dying" to see some amazing dye work... beyond amazing.

  • 2:48 wow that shirt is gorgeous

  • Can this be done with socks? And each color you're doing has to be in a seperate bottle right?

  • @TinCan916

    Yes! Shoes too...

There are some great dyed sock pictures on the FaceBook page.

You have to use a seperate bottle, but mixing can also create amazing new colour.

I prefer to mix right on the material with overlap...

  • what combination of tint are these ?

  • @joaocamilooo

These are Procion MX dyes... not sure if I had mixed the colors or just used them straight as supplied...

  • @e5mix

    LOL

    Like!

  • how much powder do i mix up for squirt bottles?

  • @galaxi117

I mix into a larger bottle and just fill the squirt bottles as needed. Easiest that way...

  • does the shirt have to be wet before applying the dye?

  • @TheDunzokush

It is best to be a bit damp... not soaking wet.

This helps the surface of the material let the dye penetrate best.

I go with a spin cycle in the wash machine as damp enough.

  • @WolfEchoes sho. good looking out

  • Ok so I tried to dye shirts with kool aide and it didn't work the recepie called for vinager mixed with the kool aide then i let it dry and then I ironed them and put them in the washer needles to say all the dye came out and we ended up with pink shirts! what do you think i did wrong? and is it possible to dye with kool aide?thanks

  • @sillygiggles2011

Non comercial dyes can be tough to get quality color. You are best off to use a dye like RIT or TULIP or (for best results) Procion MX.

Kool Aid would probobly need to be highly concentrated, and only the deeper shades would stick.

You did not do anything wrong, you just are not using real dye.

Good try though! Great idea really... but it will always be a bit pale and faded...

  • the shirt at 2:48, how do you fold it to get it like that?

  • Are you from calgary?

  • @goldenramps

    Yes...

  • On the link, I only saw "The Very Easiest Tie Dye. ** (Tie Dying For B" and assumed it said Bitches.

  • you caught me in my moments!!!

  • thank you so much for the tutorial. this made this hella easier that others that made it sound like rocket science

  • I love how he's talking, but you can't hear him on account of the music.

  • A quick question I use rit dye and such. Those have to be way way hot to dye. Is there a way to dye without burning hot rit dye? I want to use them, but I have to get them so hot. Can I do this cooler? If so how? Thanks!!!!

  • A lot of these look washed out, Is that b/c there was a lower dye to water ratio?

  • @KingsDominionGeek

You mean at 2:52: those are 'day olds", dye past its prime but still useable - can make a nice pale, non-vivid dye result.

  • thank you!! thats was great!

    Peace!

  • a+++++++++++

  • at 2:48, how would I make the dye it order to make it look like that?

  • @Kirsten69yo

    That is a "corner burst"...

Clamp your shirt on the side and bottom edge (where the seams meet on the corner) and spin it like a normal spiral, then tie off and dye like a spiral. You can do it from the shoulder too...

  • @Kirsten69yo

    The spin starts at 1:24

Probably the 2:04 is the dye apply...

  • @SGSoccer305 i know right?ILOVEIT!

  • thanks mate, going to to a bedcover, great tips :)

  • @OldSkwlHippie a tie dye bed cover is a great idea! :D

  • sweet man thanks this helped a whole lotta

  • @AironlikesApplesAuse

Yes, best to spin it damp.

It is easier to work with like that...

  • did buy the tie dye kit from walmart that's what i use

  • @gebsus

I have used those kits - but kits are costly.

If you can find the dyes in a craft shop, in larger quantity, you will save big money.

These dyes are Procion MX, from an art supply place...

  • 2:42 what do you do what pattern of dye?

  • @GraceMcVie

The dye on the left of the rack at 2.01 is that dye... using circles radiating out from the middle...

  • @WolfEchoes thank u

  • plastic bottle will met due to hot water when pure the solution mix (salt/color powder/ hot water).

  • lol,i just bought a kit for it, but i have no idea how to use it

  • the shirt at 2:49 is that one of the ones you made in the video? if it was one, can you tell me which one out of the four it was? thanks :)

  • @Starrykid101

    That is a corrner burst.

Just grabbed on the end side and spun round then dyed like a spiral.

  • very cool. Thanks for all the videos! Wondering: where is a good spot to get the applicator bottles?

  • @SweetPacino

I bought most of mine at an artist supply shop.

Some larger department stores might have similar in the craft sections.

Craft shops are probobly your best bet...

  • Good job producing this video - helpful & entertaining too!

  • by far some of the best tutorials. *nods

  • do you have some examples you could show us between the more generic brands of dye and the more expensive ones?

    ex: rit vs. darma

  • I do have a video that compares RIT, Procion, and a "kit dye".

Just add " ?v=V9JAEmjTfXE " after the " /watch " in your youtube browser address.

  • Really cool, thanks for the class, I'm going to try it! REALLY FUN! THANKS!

  • tHANK-YOU!!

tHIS IS A good PROJECT TO WORK ON THIS WINTER!

  • What kind of dyes are professional dyes and where do you get them?

  • I just mean the easier to get basic dyes like "RIT" or "DYLON"... and the more expensive dyes (professional as I called them) like: PROCION or DARMA dyes.

Those are not often in craft or grocery stores, are a bit more expensive and complex - and give a way better result.

I get mine as a mailorder or pick up.

Maiwa Handprints (but there are many places in the USA and a few in Canada to mailorder).

  • SWEET Thank you!

  • Nice and easy... cool as usual.
