Awesome, all that sound from one man. LOVE IT, I got my Harmonic Capo on my guitar right now, after seeing this I should take it off. I better practice more
we were just talking about your harmonic capo, looks like you've made a new and improved version! cool !!! when are you going to post some new music??? cheers -ag
Thanks for watching! This video still gets a lot of hits even though it's nearly 20 years old now. My most recent videos are "Metamorphosis 1", "Grasshopper", "Catspaw","June Bug" and "Dogwood". Those will all be on my next CD, which will hopefully be out in the fall. More are coming...
I can see how you quote Reich as your influence, however this does NOT sound like something Reich would write. Too much harmonic movement. Beautiful, however. This would probably sound nice on piano or vibes or something. Nicely done. Thanks for the upload. And I love the additive melody!
i hope to get one of those harmonic capos soon. that will open up a world of opportunities for my guitar playing! hopefully i can get as good as you, man. (check out my vids if you ever have the chance...looking for recognition.)
As I was watching this I was thinking to myself "Man, this kind of sounds like something Steve Reich would write" and then I read the video description haha.
Great man!!! Just great!! Is that ur own composition? I play guitar but i usually play blues and jazz. This was something extraordinary. Great feeling to. Inspireing ( right spelled?). God bless you!!
Shut up you r-tard, his fingers are in the 'right' places. I suggest your sort out your grammar before trying to critisize peoples work...Mayt U shud jst fcuk off innit.
I haven't tabbed any of the Harmonic Capo tunes yet because almost nobody has the capo, and you really couldn't play this tune without it. When the capos finally go on sale, I'll have to put together some tabs.
The tuning is CGdgde, with the Harmonic Capo applied to the "dgde" strings. That transposes those open strings up one octave. The capo just barely touches the strings. When you press a string down to the fretboard, it breaks contact with the capo and plays normally.
The Harmonic Capo works on most guitars, but not all. Many guitars have a neck joint that prevents a strap from being positioned at the 12th fret, so that rules out most classical guitars and dobros. You can still use it at the 5th or 7th frets on those guitars. It also wouldn't work well on 12-string guitars. It should work on most "folk" acoustic and electric guitars. BTW, you can't buy them in stores yet. I'm working on mass-producing them, but they're not quite ready for sale.
It'll work on electrics, if the action isn't set too low. The ability to play "below" it depends on the strings being far enough off the fretboard so that pressing them down moves them enough at the 12th fret to break contact with the capo. Playing the lower frets doesn't move the strings much, so you may not be able to use the 1st or 2nd frets without the capo muting the strings. Very low action can make this worse. Adjust the capo for minimum pressure for best results.
"a cuban landscape with rain" has the same idea.. i cant remember who wrote that though .. this is good, i liked it (some parts did indeed sound like rain)
u got same guitar as me exept mine has gold tuning knobs and some kind of turquose shell that im not able to spell but its somthing like abalony in the neck
Tootybugz, you are a fool, I bet you don't know aoelian from phrygian, and being a drummer doesnt mean you suck, you are a stereotype who thinks they know music, but you dont. Come play something for me, I bet it will be blues scale or major, so shut up and stop dissing on stuff I bet you cant play.
Wow' the reason I love acoustic and am learning how to finger pick... So I can some day play stuff that most people don't even recognize as music. Like all the dumb asses who commented poorly about the song you made "witch I think is fucking sweet" keep up the good work man. Fucking Awesome.
Very nice work, this kind of stuff is what keeps me focused on my acoustic playingf :). I love this song weas', very enjoyable, and stylistically blissfull yet, at the same time, poignant. I'm working on a few pieces myself (who knows, I might upload them once i've finished), but I can't say that I have the hang of such fine touchs as yous seem to (I have a ways to go :s ).Nice title, too, it fits so well!
Still, I can barely keep the same beat with tapping my fingers and playing a guitar rhythm, it's crazy. I enjoyed the song, it was "Pretty." And arranged incredibly, but I was told to play rhythm for my band, and I couldn't keep it, I had to play lead or else I wouldn't be able to play right. lol
Now if you started to read this don't stop because it's scary! ok send this to 5 other videos in 143 min. when you're done press F6 and your crushes names will appear on the screen in big letters. this is weird because it works. If you break this you won't have a date for 5 years
Well keep up the good work man your music is amazing and soulful and would like to see more of it. Its people like you and Erik Mongrain and Mckee that keep the originality of acoustic guitar playing alive.
Sorry, I haven't tabbed this one out yet. Unfortunately, a tab wouldn't do you much good without one of my Harmonic Capos. I'm pretty sure this tune would be impossible to play without it.
I really like the eerie vibe to this, very atmospheric. I much prefer this to the other generic, mindless shred guitar playing you see on a lot of youtube videos.
As a minimalist fan I love this peice, its pretty, its interesting. Its not so much the complexity of the tune, its the thought put into it, the tuning, for example has been thought out well. Of course I respect your opinion. We just have different points of view. To me, this piece is all about simplicity and not at all about technique. I was only pointing out that the piece is not as simple as it looks. I did not mean to suggest that complexity alone makes it worthwhile. so cool man, I don't think people realize how much harder it is to play actual melodic songs with two handed tapping on an acoustic, keep tyhe videos coming man, I appreciate it.

are you tuned down? =O
sweetsolitaryman666 4 years ago
The tuning is CGdgde, with my Harmonic Capo applied to the "dgde" strings.

very good but the capo makes it a lot easier than it may sound. all that aside, excellent job

This one might be impossible without the Harmonic Capo. I know I couldn't do it without one. I can barely do it with one. ;)
