  • oh wow a guru larry video cool.

  • i remember having this game, bloody hell did anyone actually finish it, if a remember right you had to be in the right place at the right time plus you had to have a specific colour for the code or something to trap the boogey men

  • cooooooooooooooool

  • LOL must be ages that i've seen this game!

  • one of the first T and A games lol

  • I remember reading reviews of this in Sega Power, over and over cause I really wanted it and a Mega-CD. All the talk about it's censorship. Why it got censored is anyone's guess. Looking back now, it looks shit.

  • I've seen this on youtube twice and yesterday on information TV (freesat 402)

  • I remember playing this game when I was younger, but sadly I remember I stunk horribly at it.

  • @Alchymyst02 It's a game you win by repetition really, and watching a video over and over doesn't make for a good game.

  • I'm a SCAT MAN!

  • SCAT? Is that what they really called the special forces guys? *facepalm*

  • @PikachuColoredPichu1 Yup, Special Command Attack Team (or Sega Command Attack Team on the Mega CD version)

  • This game needs the Mystery Science Theater 3000 treatment.

  • As you said, politicos went nuts over this 'game.' Personally, I don't care for FMV 'games.' Or point-and-click messes like Myst, which was probably released on every console/computer system with a CD-ROM drive back in the day. Which, of course, lead to Pyst. :Now there was a classic. lol.

    STAY AWESOME mate! :)

  • NOOINTIIEN 87¡

HAHAHAHA you brits make anything sound like you are saying "cunt"

  • @ScrewAttackEurope he's trying to make fun of you because of your accent. i always thought british accents sounded cool.

  • This didn't look so bad if it's just a non-interactive movie.

    But that's just me.

  • @LightDeoxys

holy crap, Night Trap on 3DO i am very much back in time now, killer times.

  • you GOTTA LOVE THE 80"S!

  • Yeah you do. This came out in the 90s though.

  • @dreofthedead

ur right it did, but the game's footage is actually recycled from an unreleased game from 1987 and 5 years later found it's way to sega cd

  • I dont believe what I just saw

  • I put the lives of those girls in your hands and you just screw it up!

  • Does anyone know where I can DL this? I have to try this game!

  • Actually, night trap, even on the NEMO, was a bunch of scenes recycled from a 1980 movie, "The Scene of the crime".

  • I see. Any place online with more info about that?

  • At 3:35 , What The FUck! I really thought it was "something else" rather than a blood sucking device. It came to my mind because she was in her night robe and she was in a bathroom!

  • It was a hook with a drill on it... if you were envisioning some sort of phallic imagery, you were waaaaaay off.

  • This game should have been called Night Crap

  • I quite enjoyed it.,

If it was an actual 80's movie, it probably would have a lot better.

  • Yeah. :-D

Also could you imagine if they released it on XBLA or VC, that would be cool. lol

  • Indeed,, hell they could even release it as one of those DVD games.

  • you must look like a dick then.

  • Big deal, mate, I know 15 year olds that can do the same thing, exept minus the braging about it like a dumbass!

  • (edit) after rewatching Hard news again Yes it's just a SD card & well what do I know?

  • Well I heard that from Screwattack's hard news so is it a case of they're wrong & you're right?

  • There's a 2G Sd card coming from Rock band 2 to the Wii funnily enough in the Spring, Unless it's for Rock band 2 only well Nintendo could do something about Rereleasing CD games.

  • It's just a normal SD card with a Rock Band 2 sticker on the front >.>

  • funnily fail.

  • AVGN Did a review but yours is cooler!

  • Thanks! I think we may have done ours before him too.

Definitely did on the Link video as people were complaining if he ripped us off.

  • Ah. But it can be done especially when Nintendo decide to release those 32 gig memory cards here, They've got more than 2 years to figure it out.

  • Well they were pretty naive to just put 512mb of memory in the Wii in the first place. It should have been at least 2gig.

  • Apparently someone asked on Offical nintendo magazine if they were gonna be any Mega CD games for the virtual console on the wii but can't because the Mega CD games contain 650MB while the WII only has about 520MB. (Unless SD cards can be used) but what about the Turbografx CD? That's on the virtual console & that played CD's. Still would u want this Game to be on the virtual console?

  • Howard Lincoln once vowed in 1992 that Night Trap would Never Ever appear on a Nintendo console.

Kinda ironic as they didn't have a machine that could until the gamecube anyway.

Well unless Nintendo release a hard drive for the wii or some super size memory card (32 gig ones are available in Japan now) then I doubt you'll ever see any CD based games on the system, Sega wanted to put some Saturn titles on there.

  • the graphics for it was a head of its time

  • wesleys bit near the start was brilliant lol

  • Cheers, there's about five different takes of that he did!

  • here comes the SCAT Team >:D

  • What's happened to the night trap episode on youtube? Has youtube banned it or something? Still I suppose it's still available on screwattack. Shame it won't work on a wii.

  • Oh, the streaming is shit on Youtube, Theres a link in the video description to the high quality version, that works!!!

  • Scat Team?

  • Obviously the meaning didn't exist in the 80's when this was made.

    Special Command Attack Team.

  • i reckon the world as we know it would come to an end if mortal kombat had the blood cut out of it

  • like the SNES version?

That was the game that changed Nintendo's mind about censorship as the Mega Drive/Genesis version outsold the SNES version 2:1, despite it being nowhere near as good.

So they put profits before ethics.

  • hey larry where can I find your complete list of episodes? I heard you did like 50 for the chart but you only have 22 on here, can you help me out?

  • There be some on Revver, but i've not uploaded them all yet.

  • shut up larry you are going to give rating companies ideas

  • :D - Night Trap would make a good DVD game though. Even though most of them are shit.

  • The game's not that bad, but there are better FMV games out there, especially ones that I find personally alot of fun.

  • Can you care to name a few examples that you enoyed at all?

I was quite partial to Ground Zero Texas and Burn:Cycle years ago. B:C is frickin' awesome infact.

  • I haven't played Burn Cycle, but I've played Ground Zero Texas, and I really enjoyed it. I also like Corpse Killer, Space Ace, Cobra Command, Time Gal, Kamen Rider Zo, and some others.

  • Click on the link in the video description if this video refuses to play for you --->

  • I hate that S.C.A.T. guy

  • Hey, I watched this version and the edited cut, and I have to say, I liked this better, because at the end, they cut out most of the shower scene (probably censorship <_<...)

  • Thanks bud, well its really a mixture of that and time constraints. The Retro Corners are only supposed to run for 3:00 to 3:30 on TV, and this was well over 4.

  • Ah, so they had to cut *something* out, and the most controversial part got the boot.

Kinda ironic, though, that the vid had some discussion on censorship in gaming and your boss censored part of it for the official release, huh ;)!

  • i always let her die and i kill dana at the end too hehe =D

  • nla? y isnt it available?!?!:O

  • I love how the augers walk. :D

  • What sucks is manhunt 2 got censored in the us. D=. But you can hack the wii and psp version to have the original stuff

  • Yet another outstanding vid well done ^^

Heres something you might want to look into theres a site full called the church of tetris its very bizzare and could propaly be subject to a video by u

  • Is this the 32x version of the game? The graphics seem very good.

  • Alas no, thats as rare has heck to find, this is from the 3DO version, hence the bigger screen with more colors.

The 3DO version is also the original NEMO version of Night Trap, the Sega version was updated to include loads of Sega refrences. But I think the 3sXCD one was also the original cut.

  • I always thought that the augers (or however you bloody spell it...) where vampire ninjas in dire need of a hip replacement; but that's just me...

    Oh and I apologise for commenting on loads of your videos, but they're awesome... ^^;

  • No problem dude, I'm just glad you like them :D

  • i think i had a nemo (or however it is spelled) did this vhs system have the game "papa ghostly" or something like that, where you try to save a familly of ghosts by shooting other ghosts?

  • the nemo was never finished or released, they stopped making it before it was finished so i wouldn't say u had one of those, it was probably a 3do or something

  • could someone explain why this game or movie is so controversial?

  • because the liberals saw it as a horror movie you could interactive with, they thought that you could choose to kill people Etc.

just ikk researched liberal shithead politicians trying to make a name for themselves by blaming something popular that kids like.

  • but is this a movie or game?

  • It's an interactive movie, if i'm not mistaken.

  • yea and they didn't even understand the concept of the game. They thought that you were supposed to kill scantily clad girls in the game, when in reality the whole point was to save them from getting killed.

  • I thought Doom had the most to do with the rating system?

  • It was Night Trap and Mortal Kombat.

DOOM was a PC title, so it was always considered a format for adults.

  • Yes, but when it was ported to the snes, and sega 32x, parents complained. Jack Thompson had a lot to do with the raring system.

  • But that was long after Night Trap and Mortal Kombat.

  • Your right there.

  • Best line, "Dodgy acting quality."

  • i remmber this game it sucks

  • I AM THE SCAT COMMANDER.

  • Scary...

  • I don't believe what I just saw. :D

  • How much did this cost back then?

  • It was a full price title. Infact it might have been a bit over as they were pushing it as this all singing "interactive movie".

  • I must have that night trap song.

  • I've got an MP3 of it somewhere if you want a copy!

  • yes please

  • Send me an email bud and i'll get it over to you!

  • Wow, talk about weird games produced and shipped globally. I can see why it had censorship issues. It violated a ton of them. I kind of miss this portion, when exactly did they release this game?

  • Officially, around 1991/1992.

  • Team Scat! now thats just shit

  • Get those awards off the screen bitch

  • oh, and btw, when I first played this game on my friends Sega CD, I sat there, and said "WTF THIS IS THE GAME? A 50 DOLLAR CINEMAX PORN? (aka softcore for you who dont know Cinemax)

  • Oh god, for the love of fuck I played this :S Its so cheesy

  • Zing....

  • Ooooh! I got alot of these games. Not all interactive movies ofcourse, but weird games that are only mentioned in underground forums and only available at HomeoftheUnderdogs and sites like that...

It's amazing to see that these early 90's games actually had a lot of creativity and flavour. Too bad the most lost their ways because the technology was too young or that they just didn't have the man power of a modern gaming company.

PS: I love The Darkeye. Such a great game.

  • The SCAT commander looks alot like BJ Hunnicutt from MASH.

  • I don't believe what I just saw.

    Awesome video.

  • Cheers! :D

  • Cheers to you, mate.

  • ^_^

  • My grandfather had his scat system disconnected. Ever since he's had to have a nurse to empty his colostomy bag.

  • Oh and about the dude at the end of video. lol the grey spot!

  • That game looks hilarious! It is a shame I never got to play it yet. Didn't this come for the Saturn too if I am not mistaken?

  • No, It only came out for the Mega (Segs) CD, 32XCD and 3DO.

You're thinking of the pseudo-sequel, Double Switch.

  • Ahh! I seen his on retro corner, awesome.

I never knew Guru Larry was involved in ScrewAttack Europe. That's so cool.

  • Wow awesome!

I can't believe i've never heard of this game, it's a mix of one of my two favourite things, old games and B movies :)

  • Oh, you'd really like it then, it's really cheesy!!!

Though you might want to get the 3DO version (which we used here) as the quality is a lot better than the Sega version.

  • heh yeah i'm trying to find an Emulator for this and because it's an FMV game the iso file is huge!? I dunno if downloading a game almost 500mb is really worth it just for the novelty :/

  • I think we also though it was cool as we didn't have anything better back then either, this was being touted as the future of video games too!

  • screwattackeurope, when are you gonna rape link in the review for twilight princess? btw im a pedo lulz no jk haha

  • Soon dude soon, we're really busy ATM.

  • is the anemo *i think thats how its spelled* ver any diforent?

  • Nemo, It's believed to be exactly the same as the 3DO version, which is used here, but the truth is noone really knows as hardly anyone has seen it running on a nemo.

  • BTW Anyone notice the massive continuinity error in the shower scene?

  • Y'mean the really really long screaming and how long it took them to get the needle thing in her throat? =P

  • No, not that, look at whose got the needle thing in one scene.

  • Wow, that is odd.

Although he might've just looped around the room and whatnot. But you're probably right. That's pretty funny.

  • Beside how the game suck why is it so bad. It's not like graphic murder or nudity and stuff.

  • It's not it's just politicians and the press hyping the hell out of something, you know how muvch they love to use video games as a punching bag to gain them some credibility.

  • all it takes is some bible thumping evangelical nazi with a politician in their pocket to start banning almost anything that would seem to be slightly immoral to their ignorant brain dead followers in order to get the band wagon moving!

i think they're two main contributing factors behind it all

they either have a serious need to feel important by getting their faces on t.v., or it's a scam to further their own ambitions, it could even be both

  • How do you spell those vampire zombie thing's names? Augurs?

  • Augers, yeah.

  • LOL, can't believe this cheesey thing caused such a stir. I see nothing offensive aside from subpar acting.

The over reaction to Manhunt 2 is sad. Banned you say? Based solely on press hype I suppose. If it's so horrible how did the first one manage to get released in Europe?

  • *FACEPALM*

The reason why there's such a big deal over here is because some kids copied it and strangled their friend with a plastic bag, that's why the first one got banned in the first place.

  • yeah cause that's something they could never catch in a movie... :P

of course it's the video games...

just ask mr jack "i-hate-video-games" thompson...

  • The first one got banned? I thought it was just the sequel that got banned.

  • they tried to ban it and a few stores refused to stock it. but it wasn't banned no.

  • Yeah, the censors went and overlooked stuff like NARC and Smash TV, and then went and thought this game was violent! This is the same sort of crap they would've been watching on TV!

  • Scat!? What the hell does that stand for?

  • Special Command Attack Team (or Sega Command Attack Team in the Mega CD/Sega CD version)

  • That guy scolded you at the end!

  • this game sucks. The only reason this game was named violent because the guys fight with a girl.

  • Lol, yeah, Sort of why I left it in as it was quite real, i've had that in many a job (not the letting girls be killed by vampires part tho) ^_^

  • Did anyone actually buy this game? This reminds me of those lame 90's live action tv shows they used to have at the time.

  • How is it offensive, ITS AS FUNNY AS HELL!!!

  • Comes down to a bunch of old farts who found it offensive, yet confess they've never played or even seen the game.

  • a case of "gettin on the retarded and unjust bandwagon"

  • "I don't believe what I saw"

me neither... piece of crap... can't believe people got offended by this

  • Well it was more of a case of the press hyping the shit out of the game at the time.

Plus there were some bullshit claims about you got to slaughter girls in it.

  • ya at the time, the game was using full motion video which was new to gaming consoles, so this game was probably the more descent famous FMV Sega CD games. There is not much to it but it is respectively not bad.

  • yeah I know.... the stupidity of people.

  • at the end.

    Owned

  • I just like how the chick from the shower scene is getting a drill into her neck and she still manages to scream.

Wasn't Doom another one of those games used to bring on the rating system?

  • DOOM for the most part went entirely overlooked for some reason, possibly as PC's at the time were really thought of as a machine for Adults while consoles were for kids.

  • Well, Doom was overlooked at the time, but then in 1999 came the Columbine Massacre in Columbine, Colorado USA. The shooters were fans and made the own Doom levels (AKA WADs). The US military used Doom as a training program for marksmenship accuracy - and it does improve your aim.

  • How does DOOM improve your aim? The game aims for you, you just have to be able to see an enemy to shoot him.

  • Search for "Marine DOOM". It was a MOD for DOOM made by the creators (id software). So, no, the DOOM as we know it was not used for training.

  • btw, they used it to train squad movements, not to improve aim or instinct

  • It was used to help learn troop movements, not improve aim, instinct or gun use.

  • Awesome video Man!!! That game looks interesting. Is this the Sega Version? Did you record this from your TV?

  • wasn't that for sega CD, that game sucks.

  • I said that the Mega CD, which was the original name for the system in Japan, and the name for it in the UK.

  • hehehe...scat...

  • XD "I don't believe what I just saw!" Neither do I.

  • Dana Plato as a guise for someone famous . . .LOL great little joke.

  • I'm sure the Augers wouldn't want to capture her if they had known what kind of chemicals were going through her bloodstream :D

  • LMAO

  • You beat me to it. I was gonna do a video on this game.

  • Night Trap, a true classic!

It's worth playing if only for the terrifying acting and clumsy speeded-up stunts.

I watched this, well the short version of this recently on The Retro Corner and on the same episode was a hilarious Final Fight special. Just wondering Larry, any chance of it being uploaded?

  • Ah, Night Trap. This game brings back memories. Joseph Lieberman was truly the Jack Thompson of the 90s.

    Just two tidbits, and one question;

Tidbit 1: When the game was in development for the Nemo, it was originally called "Scene of the Crime"

Tidbit 2: The shower scene was the whole reason that Lieberman got his knickers in a twist, as you UK folks say.

Question: The interface doesn't look like the Sega CD version. Did you record this footage from the 3DO version?

  • I'd say the DOS version

  • It's from the 3DO version, the Sega version looked attrocious on TV (esepcially as I needed close ups). and I gave up trying to drack down a 32X version, rare as heck!

I'm suprised they never released a DVD version of this though.

I didn't include too much details as theresa line where it becomes boring for television, and I never mentioned Liberman as this was for European TV, so not completly relevant, though it did probably add to the press hype.

  • I'm surprised some enterprising soul(s) haven't gathered up all these Sega CD/Mega CD titles and stuck them on a DVD, along with some method of playing them, and tried to sell it. If it had Night Trap and the collection was reasonably priced, it would probably sell.

...to people on YT who will then make videos mocking the badness of the majority of the titles, if nothing else...:D

  • good show old bean

  • An awesome look into the history of Night Trap. Whaddaya know? I learned something on this ride. ^ ^

Though back then, I thought nothing was scarier than a Metroid.

  • i gave you 5 stars larry and i played nighttrap i dont mind it good game i just play mortal kombat more 10/10
