  • very entertaining and informative page. Ill be back..

  • It's unusual because what she is saying about the Midwestern United States is completely untrue, which should be obvious even if one has never been to the Midwest. I grew up in that part of the country much later than Ms. Finley did, and while they were not at all omnipresent, racism, homophobia, and other types of intolerance were very much alive and well. To say that, at the time Finley grew up, the Midwest had "no prejudices" and was "intolerant of nothing" is frankly ludicrous.

  • Why is this unusual? Ambassador Finley is being honest about the challenges that exist in the United States but also points out that not everyone is predjudiced about skin color, gender, cultural background, etc. She is also correct that educational options in this country allow for both opportunity to those who may have faced predjudice to succeed and that people who may have held predjudices have the chance to learn about why those stereotypes are wrong. I applaud her honesty and optimism!
