I'm generally not the kind of person to collect and listen to worship music casually, but I've always reserved an exception for this one... simply my favorite classic hymn of all time.
I can't tell you how many times I come back to this video/song.... In great times of pain it reminds me of where my trust, loyalty and whole being belong... I've also "creatively borrowed" this version for our choir... Many, many thanks to you.
nice version, but you forgot to include pictures of the Last Supper, after all this song is based on the preparation prayer for the Liturgy of St James the Just of Jerusalem [from about the mid-300s A.D.---right about the time the NT was gathered in one place] , in anticipation of Christ becoming fully Present in His Body-Blood & Soul-Divinity upon the altar under the "appearance" of "bread & wine." The song was never about the Incarnation per se, but the Eucharist.
My darkest times so far on earth - some came when I doubted, some came when I was full of faith and could meet them in strength. When I doubted, and was crushed with despair, God did something - something in his own time - to restore my faith. Sometimes it was gradual. Sometimes it was a very profound act that I think only I myself could really comprehend because it was so personally directed at my own life and circumstances. But it has always happened. I think God really likes me and loves me.
@mottledbrain "Holy God, Holy and Mighty One, Holy and Immortal One, have mercy on us and the whole world" is the prayer in full...it is from Christ's revelation to St Mary Faustina in the 1930's about His Divine Mercy. Drawn from the Eastern Churches' liturgy of the Eucharist.
could someone give me definitive proof that God exist. I'm not just saying this to get attention. For some reason I keep questioning my faith in Him. I just need something to put my mind at peace. please someone help me.
@jalepenomack How about the fact that everything in the universe runs so smoothly? I believe that only if it were intelligently designed would it have the ability to do that. Don't mistake that for meaning I don't believe in evolution. Evolution, in fact, is a perfect example. If one species dies another evolves to take it's place. When unbalance occurs, balance always comes back. I see God in that.
I've personally found that the cosmological proofs of His existence are quite sound, although no matter what you do you must clearly define every premise that you acknowledge when trying to think through something like this.
Consider the "Prime Mover" standpoint and try as hard as you can to understand every facet of it (not just a particular prime mover argument, but the entire prime mover standpoint);
@jalepenomack Watch the movies or read the books by Lee Strobel titled The Case for Faith and The Case for Christ. They are amazing and will surely do your faith good. Knock and the door will be opened unto you, seek and you shall find.
The truth of God's love is so freakin powerful. I love how this video demonstrates His passionate transcendence of the ages in order to rescue us and carry us into the glorious victory of abiding in Him as his beloved.
Beautiful words & Bible quotes! Many people who've had Near Death Experiences have reported that the Angels really DO have 6 wings..... we must always trust God's word! :-)
Thanks for this hymn. Glory to God in the Highest Heaven !!! God bless you for uploading this hymn. May I ask who sang this version and from where can I get it in CD? cheers.
This is the ancient liturgy of Jerusalem, the liturgy of St. James, turned into a Christmas carol so that Protestants with can sing it a clear conscience. It's basically Eucharistic and expressive of the Real Presence, but if you look the other way you can pretend it's simply about the Incarnation. Of course it is about the Incarnation, but it's about a whole lot more as well!
Great video, I am just learning about what it means to celebrate Advent and this song has become special to me during this Christmas season. Good job! Blessings in Christ~
Yes, He reigns. And what a glorious sacrifice we have in the Perfect One, slain, without just cause, innocent, for the guilty. No greater act of injustice (the most guiltless destroyed by the most guilty) or mercy (the most guiltless one sacrificing Himself for his guilty accusers and for the whole, guilty world) will ever occur like it in the universe.
How wonderful a God there is, and how powerfully this music and video tries to capture a glimpse of it. Well done.
2. Who is Jeff Macare? Never heard of him and he doesn't appear on searches.
3. I believe the words are "Christ our God to Earth descendeth" (as He is PRESENT when the bread is confected) and not descended (which is the "past tense" Christ).
2. I've only heard of him on the album "Communion" where they have these various artists to sing solemn hymns like this one. You can google "Communion" and "Maranatha". (I'm not Maranatha but their song are great)
3. Thanks for the correction! I will change it ASAP! =)

SO TRUE. thats why it is in the Holy Communion section of the hymnal index.
it's Hymn 197 in the 1940 Hymnal.
The Holy Eucharist is what it's all about. To many people don't know what that means. very sad.
