Anyone know what years these aired in? I feel like these are some of my earliest kids TV memories. When I saw this I nostalgia bombed like never before. I had forgotten all about these until I saw them and the memories came rushing back. This had to be before Fox Kids started or pretty close to it.
great memories eating cereal saturday morning sometimes i would visit my aunt and sit in front of the tv with my cousins as kids i miss being a kid sometimes
I've been trying to figure out if I made this up or it really exists:
I seem to remember a black/ white pencil-drawn style "commercial cue/ bumper" like this, only this one had a kid and a dog that were always getting into trouble, and the kid's mom would call him to dinner or something from the porch, and the kid's name was "Willby" (we'll-be) and he would hollar back to her, "RIGHT BACK!" as he was dragged away by the dog getting him into more trouble.
yeah well who ever watched ABC on saturday mornings in the 80s...CBS was where it was at, they had Muppet Babies, Pee Wee's Playhouse, Garfield and Friends etc
@Happycat287 My cousins, nieces and nephews who were born in the mid 90s said the same thing you said. I was like 8 years old when this came out, back when cartoons like Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show came on, I miss those days.
@snake2006 i agree with u cartoons suck 2day and even mtv has gone downhill since childhood i think people like u and me that is all we have left from childhood i miss the 80's
I missed Saturday mornings so much. As I got older TV started to suck. Now its even worst, No cartoons or any good sitcoms or late movies, Just stupid reality TV, talk shows and court shows. TV will never be like the 70s, 80s and early to mid 90s
Such good times...I remember climbing on the counter, getting my cereal bowl out of the cabinet, making cereal and watching cartoons on Saturday baby!
@rabbiltube: i never woke up early enough on saturdays to see this...my dad would wake me up at noon to catch wwf superstars of wrestling, which was followed by american gladiators....
These quite literally scared the shit out of me as a kid. Like, I had nightmares, I would run out of the room when I knew a commercial was coming up just so I could avoid seeing these.
The one where the singers' heads roll off was the WORST.
My favoirte one still has to be the cowboy although the dog and the hydrant were good too. I didn't like the Mr. Bumpy ones that replaced them though.
Thank you. THis is part of my child hood. My favorite is the trio when they hit thier heads on the ground, but really I love these all. I was sad when it left in the early 90s but was stoked when they returned.
i am so glad that i was one of the lucky ones who grew up in the time period of the phenomenon known as the "saturday morning cartoon" i wouldnt trade those days for the world
Yeah, those were the good days.... before cartoon network and toon disney and such that gave cartoons all the time. Saturday morning cartoons used to mean something.
I think the very early 90's was the last time kids did all the same stuff... Everyone from the 50's-early 1990's have similar childhood memories. Cant say the same for kids now...Im glad I grew up in the 80's!
As 80s children we have soooo many of these little snipits lodged in our heads that keep replaying for us throughout our lives. I doubt anyone involved at the time knew what an impact their work would have on a generation :) Thanks for putting these up :)
Wow... I am so glad to hear that I am not the only person in the world that's been doing this. I'm not crazy after all, haha! In fact, that's what just happened to me and because of that, I knew I had to come on and search for it... Thanks for making me feel a little less weird. =P And yeah, I remember the singers, but am now just realizing how... odd that really is. Oh well, it never had to make any sense to be awesome back then.
Um, I was responding to misconduckt's comment about constantly singing the cowboy song with the whistle and the horse dropping on him and meant to say that I, too, have sung that in my head at random moments in my life for... well, a long time, haha.
Oh Goodness, I was so scared of these bumpers when I was a kid. The horse falling on the cowboy and squishing him...And the folk singers doing 'The Exorcist' with their heads...I think that's the only one that still gives me the heebie-jeebies. The bodies stop, but the heads just keep turning...Creepy.
The memories of being a child and carefree while watching the old Saturday Morning Toons...especially the Bugs and Tweety Show. I always loved these claymations too. My favs were the interchangeable heads singers and the squishing of the singing cowboy by his horse lol.
AFTER THESE MESSAGES, WE'LL BE RIGHT BACK! I was 7 1/2 going on 8 when these bumpers came out. If ABC still owns these bumpers, they should bring them back for Saturday Morning.
By the way Mr. Cowboy, watch out for that falling horse.
Are you talking about the jingle? Because I believe these claymation bumpers did not succeed into the 90s. By 1990 they were doing that AM Posse crap.
oh, yes this type of after these messages did air during the late 80s and 90s (til 97 i believe, if not within a few years before, but i was growing up during the first half of the 90s and saw this logo spilling into the other half of the 90s)
But the claymation bumpers returned in 1994 or so and stayed on till late 1996 when they were gradually replaced by more and more Disney junk following Disney's purchase of the station.
But I only recall seeing those What-A-Mess bumpers. The claymation figures were a bit before my time...well technically, no--I was about 16 months old when they 1st aired.
U know what? You're actually right, because they did keep that for some time. But your probably more likely thinking of the "We'll be right back" jingle; that was on during the 1988 claymation bumpers, the AM Posse bumper era from the early 90s, the Bump in the Night bumpers from 1993-94, and the What-A-Mess bumpers from 1994-95.
That might possibly explain why the voices are different. I always wondered why the voices in the commercials were different from the ones in the cartoon itself.
...finished these up(animating & directing), then went to NYC ..Saturday morning, less than 24 hours after the delivery, and these were the first things I see on the TV. Crazy. My first paid gig in the industry! Thanks for posting these! Fond memories...
All of these bumpers were tight, especially when the horse had landed on the cowboy's head. Also when the 3 girls had bumped heads, and when the cowboy jumped out his guitar and at the end he strucked a pose.
