The audio clip "Hi boys & girls, I'm Jimmy Carl Black and I'm the Indian of the group" is actually Mike Nesmith of the Monkees. Zappa once appeared w/ Nesmith at the beginning of their TV show — they impersonated each other. Can somebody find and post that clip, huh?
The "Hi boys & girls, I'm Jimy Carl Black.." audio clip is actually Mike Nesmith of the Monkees. Yes, it's true -- and Zappa appeared once w/ Nesmith on the opening sequence for the TV show. They impersonated each other. Can someone dig up that clip, huh?
i'm a diehard Litter fan from MN and i highly recommend checking out their cds. they kick ass! they put out 2 local label hard to find lps called distortions and $100 fine; both are great; another cd with some of their stuff and another great garage band from Ely, MN called The Electras is titled The Scotty Story. After the Litter broke up a couple members formed a band called White Lightning and they have a cd out titled Strikes Twice which is really great also. check 'em out.
Footage is actually the band The Litter that didn't work out for the film (the actual live audio from it is on their rare late 80's K-tel reissue cd's) love to try & synch it sometime.
The Electric Theater, which opened on April 5, 1968, the day after the assassination of Martin Luther King. . I remember Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention,Jeff Beck(with Rod Stewart), Fleetwood Mac, The Small Faces (with Rod Stewart), Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother & the Holding Co. (with Janis Joplin) Grateful Dead. The loudest band was definitely The Who and one of the best shows was a bill of Led Zepplin, Jethro Tull and Vanilla Fudge, each playing the customary two sets.
This is probably the only footage of the inside of The Eletric Theatre/Kinetic Playground 4812 N Clark St in Chicago which featured some of the best Rock Band's on Earth at the time! I remember opening night April 5, 1968 what a Trip!!! thank's for the post the movie Medium Cool is now out of print.
