  • Nice post!

  • That's Buddy Cole on the piano.

  • Que grande Alvino !!! Respeto para siempre !!!!

    Michigan.-

  • cqn anyone give me the piano left hand pattern notes on this great tune

  • Aha! Win even looks like him.

  • I THINK you'll like this one. Real short. But he plays his name with guitar and says Goodbye and So long. P.s. I'm offering a reward for anyone who can locate the other St. Louis Blues Alvino Rey clip, read the video descript above for details. thanks

  • pappy, i'm really jonesin' for that other st. louis blues. any luck yet? i can't find it anywhere. luckily i had the mp3 from the video and pasted on some stupid dea report which i've stuck in video response, so at least you can hear what i'm talkin about

  • i knew you were a smart guy. leaving your vidresponse checked. any word on the other version you wrote me about???

  • Alvino - sit on your throne! All bow to you!

  • nice but this is not the way this song should be done. wow.

  • Alvino did a great mixture here. LOL Hawaiian guitars on the blues. Wonderful! Another kind of blues, not to everyone's pleasure of course. Anyway, my blog invites anyone who got the time to listen. The link? In my profile.

    Bluesy regards,

  • Barnekkid, thanks for the kind comment., on "Unforgettable". I am planning on more Videos in the future on YouTub. I do have another on Youtube, "Moonlight in Vermont", an old big band jazz classic...al marcus

  • His great version brings back memories of my Pre WWII days.I saw him play that version at Geneva Lake, ohio. I stood in front of the bandst watching his every move.I copied every note later. E6 and E13 tuning. Later we all tried to copy Buddy Emmons. He was the Master. He played a Gibson D8 Console Grande, then. Later Gibson 6 pedals ElectraHarp. He had his own Switches, etc on it. No pedals then, but he had two on the outside of the guitar..al marcus.

  • I saw the vid of you doing "Unforgettable." That was spectacular. What tone! There should be more videos of you playing.

  • Thanks for posting this great video! Alvino Rey was playing his pedal steel and digitally mastering his CDs well into his 90s.

  • Exceptional musicianship must run in the blood...check out The Arcade Fire, a band featuring Alvino Rey's two grandsons, Win & Will Butler. Win, who does most of the lead vocals, looks a lot like Alvino!

  • Sounds-Alvino Played with Horace Heidt orchestra around 1936 With a gibson Conole Grand D8 on his lap. That is when I first heard him.I was taking lessons from his book "Alvino Rey singing guitar method". I still got it after 70 some years...al marcus

  • I copied Alvino's playing style on my D8 when he had a D8, then on my Gibson 6 pedals Elactra-Harp when he got his. I learned from him even way back in 1938, I was 17 then. I saw him in person a few times before WWII and credit my style of playing now was due a lot to him in the early years...al marcus

  • Alvino did it all! Wayyyy before anyone else even THOUGHT of it!

  • Does anyone know the exact year Alvino started playing the steel guitar in jazz bands (either lap steel, or his proto-pedal steel guitar-called "Harpsteel" I think")? I know Bob Dunn (who played with western swing band "Milt Brown and the Brownies) recorded as early as 1934. Alvino Rey was just awesome. All those guys had talent.

  • fantastic great to see one of my favorittes Tom

  • Dynamite - incredible player and entertainer. Wish he was still alive.
