  • I will check out your website as I want to put an small (LOL) G scale track layout this summer in New England- my wife is good with the trains! Issue I have is a slight grade as my yard slopes (proto operation?)

I have dcs but for O guage. I have an indoor ceiling layout in my finished attic in NH. I run G Aristo, Bachman and USA that said it is smaller stuff as it has smaller curves.

What G scale forums do you recommend?

  • Rayman4499 awesome work, I am impressed with your outdoor layout, simple but unique. On a side note how are the neighbors as MTH can pump out the sound. Great website too.

    Seacoast

  • @NHseacoast Thank you Seacoast. Haha well I dont run with the volume turned up all the way normally because you can hear them inside the house as my next door neighbor will attest to haha.

  • Top Video Superzug Coool

  • Would love to know how you did this.

  • @rickoshea17 Do you mean without derailments? Three things are really key, 1-running MTH DCS as each engine has an optical reader with a striped flywheel 2- body mounted kadees on each car, 3-metal wheels for added weight and lower center of gravity. DCS maintains the proper speed regardless of the variations in track voltage. if the tail engine sees 18volts but the fronts see 24v they all three go the same speed. DCC doesn't and can't do that.

  • also what type of track is it and did you lay concrete on the ground where you cut the grass.

  • I have a write-up on my website as to what I used for the roadbed. (see modifications page then see track section then Roadbed link.

  • how do you cut your grass???

  • I have an area in both big loopsand the smaller one 5ft long where I can remove the track and roadbed material to get my rider mower in. I get a push mower in the ramp track area between two posts that are just wide enough to fit it through. Not as bad as it looks and splitjaw clamps make the rail section removal a snap.

  • Very cool my friend... loved the panned out view of the yard showing just how long that really is... Great sound out of them also !!! 5***** as always !!!

  • Thanks!

  • 3 big boys and 60 hoppers. Correct?

  • Hi, those are USRA 2-8-8-2 engines and the United States Railway Association (USRA) during WWI used the N&W Y-3 design as it's choice for that type/size of power they wanted. They produced two types of articulateds, a 2-6-6-2 and 2-8-8-2.

  • were did you ge the money for all those coal cars

  • Thats a lot of train. super!

  • LOL I hear that sometimes. The truth is I have sacrificed in other areas for quite a while to afford it. I drive older cars and fix them myself, bring my lunch to work and live within my means. I have found that some (dont' mean you) can't believe the 4000 dollars spent for the above but dont think anything about the 25000 they drop every few years on a new car. I've always viewed it as simply prioritization of where you spend your money. 25000 dollars buys a lot of trains. :)

  • Well said, you do have to sacrifice on other areas to be able to save enough to buy model trains. Not all modelers are millionaires and yes, if you really love your hobby, you will sacrifice to see your dream come true. Nice job on the layout and trains! Keep it up!

  • you must be one of the "Gazzillionaires" that's alot of CASH runnin there my friend. Do they need any help where you work, I want a job like yours???? Hee Hee LOL The Regal

  • Sorry, typed a reply but not directly to yours.
