I HAVE NO IDEA OF HOW ANY ONE COULD POSSIBLY DISLIKE THIS SONG ITS SO BEAUTIFUL ITS HARD TO DESCRIBE WHAT A FANTASTIC SONG IT IS, ITS LIKE DISLIKING OXYGEN
wow this is amazing. THIS is something i can dance to, and really feel like the music is long, and gummy and melty. this actually makes me look forward to the nutcracker ballet this year :D
Worth mentioning, Tchaikovsky borrowed this melody from a Georgian Lullaby. He went to Georgia five times in his life and was in owe of its musical temperament.
We need to appreciate the violas here, it sucks playing this piece on one. you are just going between a D and a low D. the fingers start to hurt after like 20 measures :P
@TheMattachins I haven't seen the score yet, can you describe me what it is you mean when you say it is just going between a d and a low D ? I' quite interested so thank you for your time :)
I love this song because it can be percieved in so many different ways. After watching a few videos I have seen christmas eve mentioned as going well with this song... a general on the morning of a battle he knows he will lose... a mysterious woman in a forest... the way this song can be molded to fit almost any situation is astounding. Few pieces of music have such a huge capacity for diversity. The only other one I know of is Gymnopedie no.1 by Eric Satie.
Beautiful. It always reminds me of the magical time after midnight on Christmas Eve, when all is completely quiet; the fire in the hearth is dying out; the presents have all been been set out under the tree and and you've taken to the best chair by the fireplace, sipping a hot drink, entranced by the the embers, thinking about Christmases long ago and loved ones long passed but now very much alive and with you, enveloped in this timeless reverie by Tchaikovsky.
I heard this played on Desperate Housewives last season and I really loved it. Glad I could find a good audio version on YouTube. I'm starting to appreciate classical music a lot more now. It really transcends time and culture.
The haunting sound of the oboe still gets me after close to 50 years of listening to this piece. Only criticism is that it seems oh so brief, but not sure what could be added.
its such a beautiful peice, it sounds like a gorgeous woman trying to seduce her man, unsuccesfully at first but then he gives in to temptation. i love it!
This is absolutely divine. Its clear... perfect. This is my favourite piece. Can't wait for the winter holiday season to began so I can go and see Nutcracker.
Vivat Volker Hartung! That is the right tempo of this russian misery, Tempo of death and passion. Tchaikovsky (or Czajkowski) - the best composer of all time.
@pinkvela i absolutely love this piece. i love this version only, when i hear it in other tempos or with other instrumentation, i just dont like it enough.
it was love at first...hearing for me: i watched a dance solo to this (on a different theme though) and it just won me forever. it's magical
i have watched the video you're suggesting. believe it or not, i dont like the choreography. it's too much of showig-off-my-great-legs and it doesnt suit my aesthetics. im rather appalled
One of my favorites ;-) This was really recorded well too.
