  • I find the exercise organization confusing. 1. list muscle groups that can be exercises from each main body position. 2. list main exercises that involve each main muscle. (listing single leg/arm or reverse grip or any other "variations" are not completely new exercises and confuses beginners about which exercises to include.

The 2 track ends anchored with either feet or hands using the glide board providing up/down hill movement either face up/down. This provides ab/glutes workout.

  • @Ivan7929. The new product line is different from your XL.

  • @MrMexicanZombie, to paraphrase your remarks that a total trainer is 'built better,' I would disagree with you. I own two Total Gym XLS, which is superior to your Total Trainer.

  • @donward0, Obviously, you have never experienced a Total Gym workout. Try it and you could become a believer and advocate. Free weights is not the answer.

  • @CyberiaVisitor I was under the impression that any form cable training IS classed as free weight training, as you can work in all three dimensions as you can with dumbells. I do agree with you however Total Gym workouts are awesome.

  • they are showing the high end models....its that or a car lol..id rather buy a used car. frankly having owned a total gym and a total trainer i say a wise person would check out both then decide...only thing i can say for sure is a total trainer is built better but aside from that everything else may be an opinion.

  • when will we be able to purchase?the exciting new total gym,the total gym web site is still selling the old ones!

  • Total gym has it's place, particularly for those who have orthopaedic concerns and/or recovering from injury, but as donward0 correctly stated why would you need to use a machine like this when you could perform many of these movements using free weights which are a much cheaper option for one, can be used to simulate real life movements in all 3 planes of motion and make greater use of synergistic muscle tissue and stabilizing muscle tissue than sitting on a machine?

  • @Lourda1z (from Elizabeth Leeds, GRAVITY Master Trainer) Correct, free weights can provide an array of tri-planar and synergist movement patterns. And, Total Gym offers programs that incorporate the use of free weights. However, buying all the weights and bench can be a costly investment, too. The Total Gym allows for an obtainable progression of resistance exercises, allowing the beginner or post-rehab client as well as the athlete to obtain the workout s/he needs.

  • @Lourda1z (cont'd) The ability to tweak components of control, strength, and range of motion within an exercise allows for all abilities to achieve the necessary results. The argument can be made that you can do the same with free weights; however, free weights have limitations and without proper understanding of biomechanics can pose a greater risk regardless of fitness level. Total Gym does recognize the advantages of free weights and has incorporated them into some of their program designs.

  • whats new about it? I've had the XL for over 10 yrs, and it looks just the same ?

  • Just another Fad! Whilst I agree that cable exercises have there uses.. You just can't beat conventional periodisation with free weights!!

  • @donward0 Total Gym is hardly a fad. The equipment has been used by physical therapists, athletic trainers and fitness professionals for 37 years. Total Gym bodyweight trainers have been supported by research from numerous universities and medical communities. We don't discourage other forms of exercise, however, we do believe in the benefits of bodyweight training on a calibrated incline with the ability to functionally train in multiple planes of motion on Total Gym.
