You could go back and get a passed word in the maingame on both versions. On the 70s-90s version, you couldn't have the help of the clue giver after a word was passed. On Donny's version, they'd allow the receiver to get a passed word with clue giver's help.
Actually on this version, if there's enough time, you can still play the passed category. Though I think it was better in the Bob Stewart-produced days when there wasn't such restriction on that.
The thing I really don't like about Donnymid is that they are WAY too strict with how you have to pronounce the correct saying for each part of the pyramid.
I thought the exact same thing you said. When I first saw this on TV, I almost thought the guy wasn't going to get that subject correctly guessed in time, but as you said, he JUST made it. There have been some other narrow wins in the winner's circle on this and Dick Clark's versions. Again, so glad that they guy won the $10,000.
