Did Kocur ever lose a fight? Didn't SOMEONE get a lucky shot on him, EVER? Even guys like Probie, Playfair, Brown, etc. lost once or twice, but I don't think I've ever seen Kocur go down. Awesome.
Kocur lost plenty. In fact, he was knocked down more than most of the top guys, because he took risks and tried to trade with everyone--unlike defensive minded guys whose #1 priority is not to get hit like Brashear and Laraque.
No kidding on Brashear and Laraque. And throw in most of today's "tough" guys for that matter. These guys strike their "Heisman" pose and go for the Sportscenter KO. Seems nobody fights pissed anymore. But back to Kocur: any clips on here of him getting the worst of it?
He was knocked out by veritable punching bags like Craig Coxe, Herb Raglan, Bob McGill (the latter two especially embarrassing). There might be clips online if you search enough.
Again, if you fight in that open, aggressive style, you are going to take some lumps too--in Kocur's case, by guys whom most top fighters won't lose to, much less get knocked out by.
@alfarabi73 Well, "defensive minded" in hockey fights usually means "hugs you like your mother". No one wants to see a guy hug another guy til the ref steps in (cough Mick Vukota cough). I want to see guys who can trade punches like John Kordic or Stan Johnathan.
I would have loved to see a Kocur and Dave Brown match. They never fought. Supposedly they were buds off the ice. With Kocur's jackhammer right and Brownies left, it would have been classic
If Gaetz dedicated himself to the game he'd have overtaken Kocur and Probert as the toughest guy in the league. Instead, he drank, partied, got out of shape, was a coach killer and couldn't do anything but fight.
