  • Reni can drum like no one else, and has some of the best backing vocals, criminally underated

  • MANCHESTER NA NA NA

  • 20 thumbs up!

  • And which 2 pricks disliked it? How and why?

  • It's just one of those tracks where you have to listen to it again to check if it was that good or you'd imagined it.

    Legends.

  • @ lazyitus, u want to sell that video??... just got a ticket for the sat at manchester!!! buzzin doesnt come close!!!!

  • welcome to the empress ballroom, would you like a flashlight?

  • I have this concert video on tape. I've watched it at least 100 times!

God I wish Reni had played live 2nd Coming!

  • absolutely brilliant

  • Jeeeesus, what a fucking amazing drummer. Unreal, the only ban where I concentrate on the drumming so much. Class!

  • Looks class

  • yes, tis true. reni is as good

  • Phahahaha Reni and Grohl in the same breath!!!

    Have a word with yourself.

  • just electric.. sounds so good.. great memories ...

  • They could spend more money fer the lights thougt.. I can't see John Squire, just his shadow..

Anyway, I've not got words ter describe this song

  • Damn, you ever read the lyrics? F&cking brilliant! Just an amazing way to document a tragedy, with an amazing pop song. Just brilliant. Roses Forever!

  • @jimshoez Whats the tragedy I have always wondered?

  • It's about drowning a girl that doesn't love you back, based on a true story that happened at the Mersey River behind the house Ian grew up in.

  • What a fuckin tune - one of the best non-hyped roses songs

  • Shame that the camera-man clearly didn't know he was in the same building as John Squire.

    Stone Roses Forever.

  • @tomjoad1234 jokes!!!

  • I think Reni formed a band called ;The Rub', I remember my housemate blasting out a song called Savvy- on a live CD from King Tuts or something. That was in about 2000. I can remember thinking they were f**k all in comparison to the 'Roses, but who is?

  • lol stevie wasnt a patch on bez,,,,,always came across a touch public skool boy with his moves,, always felt his dancing presence was a let down , he shouldve stuk to his real job,,, behind the sound system

  • The Best To Come Out Of Manchester

    Reform The Roses !!!!

  • best brown singin at blackpool, part from 2:03

  • Best. Gig. Ever.

  • who's the dude waving his arms at 1:27 or so?

  • @leonsnapp : That's Cressa. The unofficial 5th member and (i think) a guitar-effects technician..

  • @leonsnapper Thanks for the info. I only recently became aware of who the stone roses are/were. Listening to alot of todays' bands, it is obvious they were listening to the roses when they were learning to play and sing. I wish they were still creating music.

  • THE STONE ROSES = GODS

They really are the reincarnation of the Beatles, i mean, in their musical style.

  • Most influential? No, One of the most influential? Yes. In the Top Five.

  • this is pure sarcasm isn't it???

  • He's not saying "Liverpool's where are belong" if that's what you mean.. He says "River cools where i belong". No no it's not sarcasm.

He's talking about when he was a kid and means the river Mersey.. Not much to do with Merseyside or Liverpool at all really.

  • @acash140 i know he's talking about the mersy but it's surely in a sarcastic tone, mersy paradise! stone roses didn't LIKE manchester or anywhere around there..

  • @benjaminrichardshoop i agree hes talkin about drownings(murder) oil cans(waste) and pikeys. hes saying its a load of shit but in a way its beautiful.

  • One word. Perfect.

  • my girlfriend went to this gig, which she likes to remind me of...lol..,..i saw em in 95,reni had gone by then, but they were toally amazing

  • @carlos7217 did she run into Noel?

  • fucking amazing. wish i was there, unfortunately i was -4 then so that wasn't gonna happen..

reni is the sickest drummer, ians the best front man.

  • same yeah i was -3! hahahah

  • I went to a gig at the Empress Ballroom a couple of years ago with my son and all I could think was " Fuckin' hell, the Roses played here!" My elation hit a peak when Mani appeared for a DJ set that nearly blew the roof off the old place!

  • I was there. I wish all of you could have been there to hear it live for yourselves. You would have loved it. EVERYONE I was around all agreeded this was one for the ages; Thank God we were there to hear it.

  • can't describe how amazing this is

stone roses easily one of the greatest and most powerfull band ever

  • God I'm Old. I need access to a space time continuum machine so that I could go see the bands I want to see.

    Maybe for XMAS Santa? Please??

  • You been watching Red Dwarf? It was filmed there during the Roses' best days! Down at the Hacienda getting slammed and whatever. Good fun.

  • Sheer 20 year old class Manc if ever. KING MONKEY !

  • boss

  • is sad that the nasa didnt plays theirs music in the space the stones roses could be in oter galaxies they are one of the greatest bands of all times

  • crazy to think Liam Gallagher was at this concert.

  • @rapperzondernaam he wasnt this is in blackpool, and liam was at the one at the manchester international

  • @scottyoasisfan606 Yes I guess you are right, in a late interview he told an interviewer that. But he also said once in a pretty green promo movie that he went to a concert of the roses in blackpool.. pff I guess Liam doesn't remember anymore ;)

  • One of my favourites. Great tune.

  • best song to listen to on a sunny day like today!

  • they are amazing live too

  • Reni what a genius

  • @kevindoo2007 He still is.. Somewhere.

  • Please come back for one more tour!?

  • im eatin sand when i need air

  • CLASSIC!!!! THATS ENOUGH!!

  • I'm arguing with others that think the Stone Roses aren't relevant to the 90's or Britpop as it called. For those that believe this, then why is it that the Stone Roses are called the most influential band in the last twenty years? If it weren't for the Stone Roses the 90's never would have been as good as it was. America was beconing to them, not blur!

  • ur right, they definatley were mate, they set the path for the 90's and r one of the most influencial bands ever, if it wasnt for the roses their wouldnt be alot of the bands that are around today, shame their all shit tho, they've got nothing on the roses.

  • favourite song

favourite band .. love the roses

  • this is the night the ROSES went big.

  • TRUTH is that RENI is a talented guy,he plays a good giutar and bass, his band after the ROSES "CHUTZPHA" he played giutar.

  • his band were called the rub

  • "chutzpha" 1 gig,,,

  • well i know he had a band called the rub after the roses because john robb said "the rub is an apt name as the rub is that reni isn't playing drums"

  • RIVERCOOLS WHERE I BELONG

  • Comment removed

  • fuckin unbelieveable

  • wooooohoooooooooooooo

  • Long live Browny. Gotta admitt though he wouldn't of made it without Manny, Squire & Reni so much talent! Oldskool lol

  • kaedo it wouldnt of worked without anyone ONE of them thats what makes them the roses... even without brown and his shit voice they wouldnt be same..

  • Just brilliant.

  • Ian sounds pretty bad here.... like he's "singing into a bucket". At Glasgow Green in '90 he sounded great, though.

Reni's going hell for leather at the back, doing all that at once and doing backing vocals and he sounds better than Ian! Singing harmonically whilst doing his energetic drumming style is stunningly difficult. Legend.

  • That's why brown's so good coz hese bad

Aparently square quoted reni can piss all over him on guitar

  • Comment removed

  • @Jewell12344 thats true mate, infact i think Reni has formed a band an plays lead or rhythm guitar in it or did, whether its still going i aint sure...? i wish id have been old enough to have been there an seen these live at their peak, but i grew up with Oasis instead which is a good second best in my opinion......

  • @madferret27 I know how you feel, my mate gave me a tape of them in 1991 so I just missed them really!Would've given a kidney to have been at Spike Island!Instead I had to be satisfied carting that tape to parties,'inflicting' it onto ppl who hated it in favour of their beloved techno! The same ppl who got into Oasis a few years later more enthusiastically tan anyone...oh the irony!

  • @madferret27

Reni could have actually be an improved Dave Grohl he's that talented. Musically (and more), the guy could do anything.

  • @GasPanic08 Reni's in a different league to Grohl. Listen to Daybreak on The Second Coming.

  • One of their best tunes I reckon, and this is a good performance from Ian. Legends

  • oh my god why didnt my parents concieve me earlier, im only 22 and i missed the best of them, still got 2 roses tattoos so done something i suppose ha!

  • what you got?

    i'm gettin made of stone

  • hwo old is he?

  • Ian Brown?46 or 45 id say

  • 46, 1962

  • they barely show john in these blackpool vids.

  • I know. I would have loved to see more of Reni's technique on those drums, though... man, he's brilliant! Genius!

  • OR IS IT ME!!!

  • thank you, so much, for posting this! fuckin' diggin' it, man!

  • great!

  • wow

  • what a voice! man! that's a true hero, mr IAN BROWN

  • where i can find this song for download?? is it correct that name :(

  • Yes it's the b-side to the She Bangs The Drums CD single, but you can get it on the Complete Stones compilation album or discover the stone roses EP, or itunes.

  • I saw them at Bridlington Spa when they did their tour after second coming. It was awesome but they weren't the same without Reni on the drums. I'd much rather have been at this gig.

  • TUPPE THEY

  • Damn they were good.

  • J'adore!!!

  • Stone ROses.....love em.

  • Does anyone know what Reni is up to nowadays? Its a shame that someone as talented as he is seems to have just disappeared.

  • yeah he started a band called the rub with him on guitar but did not got far so now him and mani are thinking of starting a new band together

  • my sentiments exactly! my fave roses tune!

had the pleasure of seein broonie at t in the park a few years ago. right after natalie imbruglia. best come down off en ecky i've ever had. wish he'd played this! openin wi little wing made up for it though!

  • In my opinion their best song ever!

  • i wish they put 'Standing Here' and 'Sally Cinnamon' on the dvd of this show

  • i wish someone would upload the entire set list from this show; or at least She Bangs The Drums. I can't seem to find the live version from this gig.

  • someone has put it up now mate =)

  • thanx. audio is good but the video is crap.

  • This is fantastic!

  • Behave...

  • I think Stephen Douglas, the original Jesus and Mary Chain bassist, directed this film....

  • fuckin amazin, wud love to see oasis write something like this, or any other band in fact...

  • It would be redundant since The Byrds already have....

  • lol yeah...riff lifted straight from feel a whole lot better

  • this is about the river mersey not merseyside for any idiots out there who think hes singin about liverpool.

  • haha! i was trying to say the same to somebody else on a different version, they were all going on about Liverpool. Respect!!

  • it's all the same ,its a shit hole, and they talk very bad, calm down ,calm down.

  • naprawdę dobra piosenka, jedna z lepszych w historii tego zespołu, eh i Ian Brown :))) jak ja kurde lubię tego gościa!!!

  • the best band ever

  • this was a b side wasnt it fuckin tune that vocal is sweet!!!

  • As it goes, Ian's vocal on this is way better than any other live track I've heard from the Roses. A band that didn't skimp on the B-sides.

  • top tune

  • ian brown is a god nuf said

  • jonny rotten? listen 2 d words, d melody. stone roses were d best

  • thankgod for studio production. the vocals are shit. sounds terrible. no wonder they fell apart after a few years. sad, Ian is wearing hte same top that he wore on the fools gold video, who the hell dressed these people? They could've gone further with some good management. shame.

  • Ian's no popstar, he's always sung like that you clueless nark. He might be awful live but at least he isn't miming to a backing track.

  • you know what you are talking about when it comes to music now go and watch some westlife you fuckin idiot you probably werent born when the roses were in full flight

  • oh yeah

  • so fucking ian brown..the great band..and we call that DEWA's band

  • it's weirdly slow here; i wish it were faster.

  • omg fucking greattt

  • This is a choon, love this band! and an great comment by jenton70

  • fuckin magic

  • This is one of my favorite tunes. These fucking guys were the biggest breath of fresh air. I wish they'd have caught on here in the states a bit more. Yeah, one of the best bands and that's the truth.

  • accidently clicked on the thumbs down, sorry la!totally agree with you

  • I was at Glasgow Green. I still mind it as if it was last weekend. Charlatans the night before too.

    Not a bad weekend haha!

  • lucky twat! what a weekend that would've been

  • Aye, was not bad baxter! I remember it pretty well. Got home from Charlatans and watched Cameroon beating Argentina, 1st game of WC that my dad had taped for me. Then up early next day bright and early. We all had tickets but amazingly, their manager came out just before they let us in with a bundle of tickets. He was about 4 hrs too late as the touts had already cleaned up! Reni sang Waterfall during soundcheck btw.

  • How d'you see a game in the 1990 WC on the same weekend as a gig supposedly in Aug 1989? What method of time travel are you using fella? Or did yr dad tape it from the future?

  • Read my original post. I was talking about the Glasgow Green gig, not Blackpool.

    Apology accepted in advance fella.

  • Ah, for the days back when Ian had that head swaggering dance...

  • Just unbelievably good to be able to watch and listen to these legends, great to log in first thing at work and forget that I'm now old and serious ;-(

  • The Stone Roses were the best band EVER!!!! i cant work out what the lyrics to this song mean but its still totally amazing

  • the lyrics are about browny staring into the River mersey (which, funnily enough, runs through his hometown) and contemplating throwing his self in.

bit of an emo slant but still a quality "choon"

  • he used to visit his aunties by the river mersey as a kid and loved playin there.hes reminisin about this.the girl he wants to drown was a girl he had a crush on who broke his heart

  • I heard it was about drowning the queen cause it says : 'She doesn't care for my despair'. Which would fit there anti royal stand point. Coz the queen had an escape boat in ww2 in Liverpool.

  • now that you mention it, the whole song sounds quite like Here Comes the Sun

  • piss take of guns n roses paradise city methinkss lol

it's got fudge all to do with liverpool, but warrington, where he was raised.

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • my fav roses song!Reni is awesome.hypnotic grooves

  • BETS LIVE GIG THE ROSES EVER DID!

  • How do you know? :)

They say Glasgow Green was their best. I've only heard one track from the bootleg, and it sounds mental.

  • well this is the gig thta broke em , but yeah i heard htis morning form some peeps that the glasgow was a fucking top gig lol

  • june 1990 big tent on the green oot ma tits , the roses wer SUPERB no other roses gig that ive seen or heard audio of comes close FACT
