At the time this song came out "Grunge" had become real boring (Kurt Cobain killing himself didn't help much either!) and was eventually replaced by bubblegum pop and rap/rock music. Looking at the last decade with American Idol and Eminem and rap music...Yeah i'd say Lenny Kravitz was right with this one. On the upside, with the popularity of "Guitar Hero" in recent years rock music is making a very slow comeback but then again rock & roll is a 1950's term anyways!!!!
But today... all I see is that stupid hypocrite Jessie J, who sings a song about not needing our money and then getting millions out of it by selling it on iTunes. But I don't blame only the bands or singers. We have to blame the stupid society that gives money to untalented people just because they're "cute", and don't give a fuck about the lyrics of the songs anymore. Music today has no meaning, it has no passion, and no talent.
@axn36 I don't really think that Nirvana killed Rock n' Roll and I don't think that Nu Metal killed it either. I don't like Nu Metal but, in my opinion, what really killed Rock n' Roll was all this playback and autotune bullshit. No more attitude, no more "singing whatever you want to" kind of stuff. Kurt Cobain was not the perfect singer, but at least he always had something new and important to say.
Rock N Roll died since the dawn of Nu Metal in 1998 or 1999. Needs to be brought back to life. Or, actually, it's not dead, it's just buried under a mountain of shit and needs to escape!
@SandeProHiQu. What you see is what you get. What you hear is what you understand. I don't know these rock singers write all dark, negative painful lyrics and tell us that "no you misunderstand the lyrics".....what's that. When someone says "I will kill you", it is a threatening. These rock artists are frustrated people with negativity. I hate this music because of this negativity....though some compositions are good.
@LedWilde. Whatever. Neither nirvana nor any nu metal rock sounds fresh like the rock music of the 1980s, especially of van halen, def lep, bon jovi, bryan adams, whitesnake, kiss, iron maiden, metallica, slayer, death, motorhead. That rock music is dead, which was comprised of classical trained up vocalist or a flawless vocalist with guitar virtuosity.
@AliceinChainzz Well, it all sounds the same. They only play drop B (or something) power chords on the lowest strings on the lowest part of the neck all the time so the riffs all sound the same. They can't sing good. They all copy off other bands that sound exactly the same way. They don't change up rhythms much. The music is not that dynamic, it's all "one color." It's been around too long. That's just my opinion. Not trying to say "Don't listen to it!" I'm saying I don't care for it is all.
Fuck, How much money did Lady Gaga give to Youtube so they can show her fucked up face next to every video?!? THUMBS UP IF YOU'VE ASKED THE SAME QUESTION!
@Aramazdkhatcherian ...Yeah her and Beyonce...What a crock...NOLA loves Lenny like Lenny loves NOLA!!! New Orleans Louisiana the sometime home to Kravitz and Co....
@Aramazdkhatcherian You cannot stand the kind of music she does, the people who follow her or the marketing around her pop singer pose, but you can't deny she has quite a good voice and, in fact, she is really good at piano. Ok, she's a commercial monster, but, underneath that there's a girl who knows what she does.
@damiantanco I respect her music! she truly has an amazing voice, although as u said she's much more of a commercial monster! but still everything is beautiful in its limit! she appears next to every single shit! she's pushing too much with her fame story and stuff
thumbs up if this sounds like Led Zeppelin haha! Lenny Kravitz is a fuking genius

Very true. Both Rock & Roll of the 1950s and the Rock Music of the 1990s are dead. Nirvana killed the rock music in the 1990s. It's history now.

@axn36 Nirvana revived it, actually. It's these Nu Metal douches that killed it. Or record companies for signing such bullshit.
