I've just read the graphic novel and this looks absolutely nothing like Alan Moore's From Hell. Actually Alan Moores work is largely unfilmable.. it's just impossible. But I wish they would have called this something else, because it really has nothing to do with the Alan Moores Work.

@SethHesio It actually resembles more of "Jack the ripper the last solution" which was the inspiration for the From hell graphic novel. Calling it From hell makes since but I think hollywood really just wanted to cash in on it being based on a graphic novel. Still my favorite movie and the book was really good as well and it got me into Allen Moore! P.S. League of extraordinary gentlemen should have never happened as a movie!

@mdchoc13 League... just SUCKED. I want to read Final Solution... I think it would be an interesting read as Alan Moore refers constantly to it in the annotations. I just don't think Alan Moores books are filmable.. they're specifically designed for the brilliant medium of the comic strip. The information in From Hell couldn't be conveyed in a 2 hour film. It couldn't be conveyed in a 10 hour mini series ffs... I'm reading V for Vendetta next.

@SethHesio As much as I love the movie I can agree with that. I'd still like to see a mini-series of the novel. I the V for Vendetta movie but still have yet to read the book but I did read Watchmen and it was like a religious experience. Saw the movie, didn't like it. Then I saw the director's cut which was far better. 3hrs worth it. Then I saw the complete 4 to 5 hour version. Best one to fans! In fact I thought the ending was better in the movie but the suspence in the book cannot be matched!

@mdchoc13 When you say reading Watchmen was like a religious experience I know EXACTLY what you mean. It was like this new thing... this new path that I had never ever thought of, or seen or new could exist. A brilliant piece of art. I would love to see the 5 hour version of the Watchmen film. I thought the version I saw was passable and they kept true to the novel, but it needed to be longer. I've always recommended people read Watchmen before they see it though. Don't you think?

@mdchoc13 I think so too. And the ending of the film worked better than the ending of the novel I think. It was clearer, better. I think the problem Alan Moore has is that he doesn't want Graphic Novels or Comic books to be seen as merely blue prints for films, as storyboarding.. which I think a lot of people view them as. in his words a lot of people see comics as merely "films which do not move" which is to misunderstand the medium I think. You're right though, Alan would like the WM movie.

@SethHesio Yes I understand that about Allen Moore but I also think he misses the part where fans are mainly the ones who want the movies to be made. Personally they didn't have to make a LOEG movie or make a mini series of From hell but I think alot of us really wanted to see Watchmen be made. I always look at movies as the final frontier of art and I also think nothing really stays in one place after all comics become movies,movies become games, games become chapter books and so forth.

@willempiekip No!!!! It's great entertainment, but complete nonsense, historically speaking! I've not yet seen a film that portrays the murders with any real accuracy. There was a two part drama back in the 1980's with Michael Caine that wasn't bad in certain aspects, but it drew a highly implausible conclusion and still got many of its facts wrong. Your'e much better off looking up a documentary about Jack the Ripper on Youtube, than hoping to get factual info from ANY of the films.
