  • got to admire the work that went into that, its all an improvement. I had a 2 door 1.3, rare or not it was a piece of junk, poverty spec all round and dangerously underpowered on the road even back then

  • I'd buy that for a buck or two. At least i'd make it to the '9's' whiff of nitrous in the air...XX

  • Yo! Downpour! It's your 'kin fault it's rainin'.

  • @429cuinTbird

Gee, do you think that has anything to do with how the car got it's name...............???

  • @raindance654

why is drivers seat so far back?

it looks like there is space for feet further forward ? or does it get narrow due to exhaust manifolds?

    they are very wide.!

I remember as a kid we would watch stock cars with chevy 509's and other big v8's; they ran no silencers back then, just a 4 into 1 manifold on each side!

The ground would shake even when they were idling!

I actually permenantly damaged my hearing listening to them!

  • @tpvalley

The drivers seat is set rearwards to enable the firewall to be placed at the strong point of the frame, also allowing the motor to be positioned behind the centreline of the front axle. This gives much better weight distribution and therefore better traction. The drivers seating position, which is almost where the old back seat was, further shifts weight and therefore mass centre rearwards. For the same reason, fuel tank and battery are also located at the rear -in the trunkspace.

I have a neighbour who said last week that he wants to sell his 1.3 2 door definately, hes been ummin and arrin for ages.

I like the idea of a diesel conversion.

  • @tpvalley

Diesel isn't my first choice, tp, but I can see the attraction..........

  • @tpvalley

The manifolds (headers) are fairly similar to those you saw on the stock cars but are only really wide for ease of construction and maintainance. The first incarnation of this car was far more conventional and was quite awkward to work on and sit in.

Many drag cars are significantly louder than stock cars and you will see a lot pit crew and spectators wearing ear protection these days…………

  • @raindance654

I almost forgot, if the police see this they can ask for insurance details for the car and if u never had it they can still seize the vehicle at a later time!!!

    or did u have insurance...?!

  • @tpvalley

No worries on insurance, mate.........its been constantly on cover since 1995

  • @raindance654

WOW, HOW MUCH AND WHO WITH?

I want to insure a modded cortine; if u can get insurance with this car.....

providing its not insured as a 1.3 still!lol.

  • Gdzie dorwaliscie tego forda? :D kapitalny ^^

  • @Mek00071

  • Ask about roof ........BEANERS......

  • f***en hell, what a beast!!

  • any chance you know of a decent MK5 2 door shell for sale mate ive got a 4 door i was going to do the conversion but its cheaper to get the other shell i reckon and slot a V8 in with the left over money im also after a fox body mustang for the engine and box if you know of any

  • @guardsman25149311

Hi mate. No chance with finding a shell I'm afraid, just yet anyway.

However I was thinking of re-shelling the car in the next few months so my shell may become available. It's in good shape but bear in mind it's a tube chassis car.

I know of a bloke breaking a whole Mustang II with a 302 and C4 box and I also know of another 302 plus 4 speed auto. Let me know if anything is of interest and I'll point you in the right direction.

    Rainy.

  • if you read classic ford they say avoid the cvh diesel in the seirra as its ghastly. you would be better off with a mondeo.

  • The driver complies to nothing.........trust me!

  • I'm hurt by that comment ;- )

  • i'm sure you'll get over it!

  • To continue...

My car has a full round tube chassis now but there were no real clearance issues when I built the car first time round with factory engine bay and floorpan.

Diff ratios vary considerably and the one to look for is from the 2.0 auto if you're looking to give the car longer legs. Combined with the Sierra 5 speed box will give comfy cruising.

    Insured by footman's.

  • is that footman james?

    I use them to.

r them rear tyres rinkle walls or just ultra fat?

r they good for corners or do they wander a bit?

I am a diesel fan, but the main thing is fuel price, obviously the 6.2 isnt going to be that good but the sierra unit is, or even an adapted vw 1.9tdi, u can get kits for them to get over 300bhp and huge torque.

  • Hi TP.

The 2 door Corti is getting quite unusual these days. I'm a bit surprised by your choice of engines. Obviously you're a diesel fan. If you get a Ford diesel from a Sierra you'll have a 5 speed trans to go with it almost straight into the stock Cortina engine bay.

I wouldn't consider a 6.2 V8 as a vaible option -even if someone is going to give you one. If you put a V8 in, the Chevy small block petrol is the one as it's really easy to to do the swap.

  • Cheers for your comment mate. I have some vids but they're still on tape and I haven't got around to converting them. This particular vid was just shot on a mate's phone one quiet afternoon..................

  • I have access to a cortina 1.3 2 door, last owner since new!

    Never used.

I was wanting to put either a ford 1.8 diesel in (what bellhousing? 3.0 essex?) or a 6.2 v8 diesel, any clearence issues or is urs space framed up front?

Do they have different diff ratios for the 1.3,1.6 and 2.0 and 2.3?

I actually saw a mint looking mk5 on ebay for £800 with a 2.8i engine and 5 speed box recently.

    Who insures u?

  • Now thats a fuckin cortina dude,

I LOVE IT!!! Any other vids of it mate???

  • The car is road legal ? Hahaha. And the driver ?

  • Car might look a touch on the extreme side but fully complies to our laws. Driver, however is another matter............

  • Hope you have fun when doing these burnouts!

However, I just ask that you have consideration and stop doing them in residential areas. I live across the road from hoons who have left countless tyre marks on my road and others have left similar throughout my suburb in northern Perth, making the place look awful and these marks cannot be removed.

  • On the whole, my burnouts are restricted to the raceway and I have lots of fun doing them. I resent your implying that I am a hoon when you know nothing about me or where I live. I respectfully ask that if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all.

  • Imagine trying to convince police that its still a 1.3 and "the bonnet scoop etc are just for show officer!".

  • I don't even bother trying to convince our esteemed constabulary of the Cortina's potential. I do, however, also have the factory flat bonnet which can be fitted with a bit of faffing. The car then looks like a tidy factory car with paint and wheels and a "fruity" exhaust note. It also has the added benefit of improved forward vision. I even once had a guy approach me whilst parked up asking me where he could get some wheels like mine for his Cortina (and would they fit a four door...??)

  • u r bothered about the skid marks on the road?

If u do have a complaint it should be a safety thing.
