I don't think the pistons are producing light, they're just transparant, so when they're exrended they let in daylight. If you had a shell, they'd still let light in from the redstone behind them. The only way to keep light from getting thru is by placing solid blocks next to the pistons and powering the pistons thru the blocks via repeaters.
@AutomatorMC Yeah, I see what you're talking about now. I never really noticed it before. What I'm seeing is if you have a ton of pistons next to each other that were all placed in bright light, they seem to create light when extended even if you've enclosed them... but if I place them in a space that's already enclosed, they produce a small amount of light, kinda like a brown mushroom.
nice lp :) you can 'punch' the tnt with the flint+steel. also have you seen pressure plate piston traps? seem like your heading down that route anyway. and have you tried adding more casing around the pistons to prevent light or are they really producing light? great stuff :p

The trap in my real world uses plates. I built that the same day they made Enderman afraid of the water.
Pistons create their own light but a redesign hiding the shafts would probably help a lot.
