  • If you like Potter, and Frahm, you'll like Anton Harris too.

  • If you like Potter, you'll like Joel Frahm too.

  • he fills the brecker gap nicely

  • hare krishna !

  • @Thundermonkeyms I'm sick of the lick too, but Potter just makes it sound so cool to play it!

  • Very good one, butz in my opinion he plays to many ghost notes in the thema. but very straight, very good bebop :)

  • This man is a Master! The whole band is fantastic.

  • 0:46 oh jeez the lick has taken over chris potter too lol. :)

  • @Thundermonkeyms I think you mean 1:11 :D

  • @bmartinmusics There as well. XD

  • .....now play it at Charlie Parker's speed. Ha ha just kidding, great sound, beautiful man!

  • this reminds me of Steve Ruel

  • Just saw him here in Santa Cruz playing with Mccoy Tyner....Pretty Amazing Show.

  • What album is this off of?

  • I had always thought that Chris Potter was some smooth jazz type! I guess I was mistaken! Thank you for posting.

  • its unnerving that he's just staring you down...

  • Why do people gotta be all selective? Saying Potter can play as well as Bergonzi and Grossman is some bullshit. All those guys are masters and I'm sure they have a mutual respectfor each other. Once you get to the Brecker, Lovano, Charlie Parker, ect. level how cansomebody be BETTER than another person? It's freaking improvisation!!! Jaz doesn't need any more hater, jazz nazi attitude. Enough people totally don't give a shit about jazz, jazz fans don't need to make it worse saying bad shit

  • I'm not a huge fan of his tone but I like his improv

  • best saxophone player alive by far

  • @MassiveFriend

No offense man, but you need to check out Kenny Garrett. ( NOT Kenny G)..

  • THE SAXOPHONE IS AN ART THAT'S NOT EASY TO LEARN JUST LIKE JAZZ

YOU HAVE AN EAR FOR IT

  • I'm a South Carolinian, same as Chris, but the difference is he made a name for himself as a teenager, nobody could touch him, and he's only gotten better. Man alive, he's become one of the best tenor players alive!

  • damn. can't wait to see where this cat goes in the future.

  • Chris is a thoughtful player and what I noticed is after some listening his improvisations often seem to start out quite prosaic and at a certain juncture he just breaks through the zero point of unlimited creative potentail and goes berserk with creative ebullient humor-filled sheets of sound that carry the hallmark of his genius and surprise the heck out of anyone listening ..Jazz is after all as Duke Elington said -"The Sound of Surprise" ♪♫☼

  • guess he listens to mr lovano ...alot

  • omg how could ppl be this good...Chris Potter is a god lol

  • @pwnmaster9 Lol, right???

  • listen to 'west of hollywood' on steely dans disk 'two against nature'....staggering!...longest solo in rock history.....but it aint rock!!

  • I like Chris in this song - nothing over the top and he swings.

  • This is the sh*t. Stunning command of the entire instrument. I'm a tenor player ( or at least thought I was was until I heard this) and am duly awed. Some fellow musicians kept telling me "You gotta hear Chris Potter!"...wow, now I know why. Incredible phrasing, timing, ideas, range, tone....need I go on. Love it when a new voice enters the fray and just completely stands out with a unique voice. Not easy to achieve.

  • awesome :). i love cp's many phrasing styles. you can tell a master of jazz when he can speak it in so many ways.

  • Trane, Rollins, Henderson, Dexter-- and Potter-- that's it

  • and Parker, Shorter,Stitt, Lateef......?

I could go on for pages, you shouldnt limit yourself to few players, any of the "legends" or famous saxophonists have their special apporach and new identity of "Jazz" they brought about.

Its not easy to get into the sounds of all of them, but the more you listen to the closer to your OWN voice you will be able to define your own Jazz vocabulary. I personally dont include Kenny G in my studies but choices of this kind are everbyoies personal choice!

  • @mariavasilei Shorter, Prez, Hawkins, Redman, Branford......

  • @mariavasilei What about Bergonzi and Grossman?Potter couldn't carry their reedguard...

  • Bad ass. Definitely no other like Chris potter. Yeah!!! . the piano solo was cool to but chris is always puts that smile on your face when he starts playing.

  • @RafaelLuna18 Today is my first day of Chris Potter!

  • @gotmeagrape That is so awesome to hear that you are listening to the right people if you want to keep that jazz generation going forward. definitely a guy to check out.

  • Hehahaha!

  • Forget being one of the best tenor players under the age of 40, he's definitely one of the best tenor players of all time.

  • Its from Tom Cohen's Diggin' in, Digging out

  • Dyn-o-mite!

  • that first lick he played at the beginning the solo reminds me of rhythm-a-ning by monk

  • @danddel it's called quoting :P

  • @XxSaxCannon921xX or motivic development...

  • Comment removed

  • @danddel Such a nice interpolation of that melody! <3 monk

  • @danddel makes sense, both Anthropology and Rhythm-a-ning have rhythm changes

  • @danddel thats because it is! haha

  • @danddel he was quoting it

  • @danddel iT IS MY FRIEND

  • @danddel I think both songs are based off of the I got Rhythm Progression
