@jackmuffin3103 "Thank god nz kicked Frances butt at the finals 12 years later."
That's a really ignorant comment. You need to watch a tape of the game, this time when you're sober. You might like to count the number of times the (non-) referee refused to penalize the most blatant cheating by the All Blacks.
That first Lomu try in particular has to be one of the greatest ever scored! Especially after such a bad pass in the first place, great catch, amazing amazing skills for such a big man!
for me this was such great rugby and and such a spectacular game with lots of running, trys, drop kicks you name it this game had it, and the 2011 overall has been such a disappointment overall, i mean 1 try each in the final and thats it ??
I am very sad that none of the emotion felt during this game will ever come up at this 2011 world cup...this is the best game EVER, and will be very difficult to beat it. Full stop
What the fuck at 1:37? The white haired french dude just gets out of the way! Oh, come to think of it, i probably would too with that nigger running ape shit at me like that!
That was a France probably nearer to New zealand than it is in 2011. Now French rugby is full of strangers, there are few french young players and even rugby-level of Top14 semms not as good as some yeras ago. I respect France as pride team, but I believe that in the next days we will see a large all-Blacks victory
God i remember this game when i was 9, was gutwrenching seeing that bloody Dominique score twice! Not sure what was worse the saffas in '95 or the french
It cannot get more intense than playing against All Blacks in a RWC match. This has to be THE greatest game of rugby EVER played to date. Great stuff.
I am a Yorkshireman but I will never forget watching this game in the pub (the pub nearest the queens house in windsor for some reason!) I insisted my international then uni friends pull over to let me watch it ... I will never forget it.. kick kick kick always kick behind the NZ rush defense.. I <3 FRANCE
This game was utterly stunning. Being English, I never thought I would be screaming in support of the French. Seeing Jona Lomu trample effortlessly over all the British and Irish sides made this game seem a foregone conclusion. Yet even after a couple of tries from the big man the French came back with the joie de vivre that only they possess. This certainly was the biggest upset in the RWC. I still think that New Zealand will win the 2011 RWC.
@JMc4Carthy "Foregone conclusion"? Frabce dominated this match from the opening whistle. Both tries by Lomu, while magnificent, were completely against the run of play. Even when the All Blacks were leading 24-10 early in the second half, it was only a matter of time before France cracked down on them.
It was not the "biggest upset in the RWC"---any more than Brazil beating England in the 2002 World Cup was an "upset".
I agree. I'm an England supporter, but France displayed amazing character and skill, and I was really happy to see them win the match. It was the most dramatic game I can recall seeing at the world cup.
They say that the Tricolores fire one match in ten. They could beat the All Blacks on their home turf if they perform like they did in this match. For me, this was the best test of the previous century.
@mranimalhuman the reason for that is because the closer u are to the goalposts the easier the conversion is for the kicker, when u score a try u get a kick at goal after it, so for example if u run directly under the posts then its a kick right in front of the posts.
@mranimalhuman because in rugby after you score a try (equivalent of a touchdown) you get a chance for a kick at goal: a conversion. And the position of the conversion depends on where the ball is touched down. If you touch it down in the centre, the kick is taken from straight in front of the posts. So its an easy conversion and an easy 2 points
its really rare that france would ever beat the kiwis since their test series in 1994, but the french team are full of surprises, they have a talented squad but in order to beat the the all blacks this year they will need to be lucky as fuck
@tom1453 What have the French ever done to your country? What a shite way to look at a sport that has NZ dominating the whole time... they just walloped the Wallabies yesterday.
@Talbot6832 I never said the australian rugby team was good their shit our cricket team is so much better and we have the fast man in the Swimming again!
@tom1453 You mean the referee (Andre Watson) beat them. He disallowed two French tries in the first half, and whistled the French out of the match altogether.
The French have never been the favourite for any world cup.
The Kiwis have been the favourite for pretty much EVERY world cup, and yet have been in the same number of finals as the French, and one fewer than England. NZ only manage to have the fourth best record overall in the WC - pretty poor considering their talent and reputation. Play well most of the year round, but choke when it matters.
@KaitainCPS The French have always been one of the favourite teams for every World Cup---though, after Saturday night, I would severely downgrade their chances for this one. You rightly mention the "talent and reputation" of the All Blacks; you must also realize that France has far more talent than any country to draw on---including New Zealand.
Not that you would have thought so on Saturday night.
@KaitainCPS That's something that is recognized by anyone who knows anything about rugby football. @KaitainCPS "I've never seen anything like it. They ran it from everywhere, forwards and backs combined. They'd run full-tilt into the tackle and just as you went to tackle them, they'd flick the ball into space and someone would be running onto it at pace from a deep position. There were class players with tons of skill and real pace coming at you from all angles....I spent the evening lunging at thin air."---John Kirwan, re the 1989 Stade Toulousain side.
one of the worst and fustrating days of my life too many poor miss tackles!!! Congrats to france played one hell of a game to comeback and win!!! That rwc sucked for us!!!
@SuperJay2cool France didn't "come back" at the All Blacks; France dominated from the opening kickoff, which they regathered. Lomu's two magnificent tries were against the run of play.
No team, not even the All Blacks, can match France when it is on song like it was that day.
@Jack72824 ,yes, but at the Final in which France met an Australia who was strong ,but not the strongest of all times, Dominici and collegues did not manage to carry the Cup to Paris
@anisocoro You need to watch the match again on YouTube. France was robbed of two tries in the first half when the referee (Andre Watson) refused to play advantage.
Imagine if France had gone into halftime leading by 20 points to 9, as they should have.
@Jack72824 all blacks did lead 17- 10 at halftime and 24 to 10 at one stage through the second half so i do regard that as a french comeback and all blacks were unbackable favourites so your wrong about the fact that france dominated the game!!!
@SuperJay2cool The All Blacks led at halftime against the run of play. Even when Lomu's second brilliant try extended the lead after halftime, it was only a matter of time until the dam burst.
France dominated the whole match. You really need to watch it.
@Jack72824 What I meant was that the scoreboard read 24-10 to the All Blacks so that was a comeback in a way regardless of whether if it was a matter of time. Not much teams can come back from 14 points down especially against the all blacks!!!
@cantor0305 yea but it wasn't exactly 26-"0" because before those minutes the kiwis had already scored two touchdowns and converted a kick so it wasn't 26-0 but 26-something what do you say?
