I wish the spirit of Mufasa would appear for the FF creators and say: "Final Fantasy, you have forgotten who you are. Look inside yourself, you are more than what you have become. Remember who you are..."
In remembrance of FFX, the last true Final Fantasy.
Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which is electronic music inspired by great games such as the Final Fantasy series. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
All of the noobs saying the game is easy, thinking they're pro because they're not some retarded 10-year-old who sucks at RPGs that require a remote amount of skill; try completing the game without using any items, only using the default weapon, no equipment, and only using the first two paradigms each character gets given. Then you're pro!
Amazing game , amazing story, amazing cast (except for snow beeing a lil anoying from time to time) . Best main character I've seen in the series. Loved it from start to end. Only this trailer portraied a tottaly different battle system then acctually was done in the game. Still, this was the trailer that made me buy a ps3 and wait for the game, no dissapointment here. Waiting for part 2 !
@GhostSnake probably not, because of how radically different it is
if you really want to enjoy the franchise to it's fullest, i'd say start with FF9, it basically sums up final fantasy well, with decent graphics to boot
ff8,10 are he next in line, and i recommend 12 and 13 the last just because they really dont play like any other FF game
i left out ff7 and earlier because the graphics are a little TOO dated and you might not enjoy it
great graphics, but game play pretty much sucked balls. no quests but missions that made you feel like you got home from work and saw a HUGE "things to do list" on the fridge. just my opinion but im hoping FFXIII-2 will fill in the gap. not trying to piss off people but ever since Square Soft became square enix, value of their games seem to have gone down,
Im gonna be honest here...when i first saw this i was like "HO MAI GAWD YES PLEASE YES :D" because from the trailer it looked like instead of a party of like 8 or 9 people, you were going to take the role of ONE, SINGLE, LONE BADASS against the whole WORLD. I wasnt exactly disappointed with the game once i played, i was just...a little...dis..a.......pointed....yeah.
huge long game. epic graphics. really interesting story. gameplay takes a bit of getting used to. also takes a litle while to get into the fun stuff. tons of areas. 60-80 hours worth of play easy. ps3 version is mint. 1 disc. crystal clear all the way. :D
@dontbyvista I feel you. It's a good game, but not as good as most people thought it would be, including myself. Remember one of the first trailers where Lightning is fighting a group of soldiers and she basically shoots them while doing flips? Everyone was like, "OMG the gameplay is gonna kick azzzz!" The final version is nowhere as dynamic. :/
This is the first single-player Final Fantasy game that I didn't rush out to buy on release day, and I'm glad I didn't.
FF XIII was a very different title. At first I was like WTF? Where are the quests and exploration, but then I understood that it was the intent of the makers to make this game different. I think FF XIII-2 will add the elements that we missed, and make it a classic. Look forward to it!
BTW, check out the video I’ve uploaded on a hacked FF13 offer. I got myself 2 copies, sold one on amazon and kept one. Easy $25
@Emiliunikelxc Yeah, I've heard many people believe this, like myself, and I have heard leaks from like posts on stuff on blogs that they have found that yes there was be extra things we missed. And you get to see things that were cut out of FFXIII.
i personally think 13 would be better if it was developed on 3 disks instead of 1, as u just don't get thoses epic cd ender scenes that we saw in the ps1 days, like AERIS' DEATH or Squall getting fucking impaled by the sorceress and falling to what looked like his death.. i mean where were the moments like that even in final fantasy 10!!!
This is why exclusives should stay exclusive, they changed all this to appeal to the western audiences there's a reason why WRPGs suck they and get less game play. SE needs to go back to tradition where you can step off your path free-roam the open world. I remember when warriors had weapon skills and magic was either infused or mainly for mages. Multi-Platforming this series that is exclusive to nintendo and playstation is a bad move on their part, theres a reason why you dont see wrpgs on tv.
@AJollie87 WPGs don't suck. I used to think so, and then I tried one. There are certainly weak ones, same as JRPGs, but overall they offer newer ideas. (And what's this about less replay? After making so many branching decisions I feel I need a second playthrough to make different choices, perhaps with the protagonist as a different gender.) But consider me a new WRPG convert as of two weeks ago. I may never go back.
@9HereticPrincess9 Um...I didn't say I hated WRPGs. I'm a recent convert. They are pretty damn fun and addictive, and the stories are just as strong as those of the best JRPGs out there. Well, the quality ones, anyway. And I've never heard of "Sacred 2 Fallen Angel"...
I saw you reply to them and read "WPG's don't suck, I used to think so", so I got mixed up.
Regarding Sacred 2: Fallen Angel it is for 360/PS(3?) and is made by Ascaron Studios (now bankrupt). People say it is very much like Diablo...a "clone" they say..
@9HereticPrincess9 Oh, no worries. I've never heard of it, so I guess it's deservedly been forgotten by the general public. But to generalize all WRPGs as suckage is quite incorrect. There are some really amazing ones, and there are terrible ones, certainly, like JRPGs. But lately they're the ones that seem to be innovating the most.
@celenas77 Very true. For a JRPG example, I think that Infinite Undiscovery is terrible, but all of the other JRPG's I own/have played (not necessarily to completion however) I've loved. So it's as you said, there are great/terrible WRPG's and great/terrible JRPG's :)
@celenas77 well I think they do because they have no basis and structured around DAD or games like WOW which I'd never touch JRPGs have the best stories, characters and such. If I wanted to play a game about history people walking for four movies to throw a ring in a fire pit I'd read a book. But thats your opinion I just don't think JRPGs should try to convert to western customs because they'll likely lose out on linearity in games.
@AJollie87 Not all WRPGs fall in that category. If you "don't touch" WRPGs, how can you say that they all unequivocally suck? I used to think that way. Then I caved and played ME2, and it felt like all the previous FFs I'd played were training bras and ME2 was that Victoria's Secret Embrace lace balcony bra. I had no idea this was the stuff I was missing! I don't think JRPGs should "convert to Western customs" either, but it wouldn't hurt them to learn the good things from other games.
@celenas77 ME2 I taking your talking about mass effect? It probably has rpg features, but nothing like an original its a shooter. Like gta SA had "rpg features" but it was still a sandbox shooter, I've watched friends and family play them enough to know they suck. WRPGs like Fable, ME, Fallout, Might and Magic is absurd theres no creativity, no concept, no real story and all too predictable LOTR setting places you set on one path throughout the whole game.
@AJollie87 Um, ME and Fallout have "no story, no originality, no concept"? Maybe you were watching the wrong game/s. The only reason I played ME2 in the first place was because people kept recommending it to me, even diehard JRPG fans. ME2 is SO much more than a "shooter RPG", which I originally thought as well. WRPGs have come a long, long way. So you don't even play them and you decided they sucked? Wow. Guess I can't convince you otherwise if you're so dead set against giving them a chance.
@celenas77 what could they possibly learn from western customs? real talk, SE fucked up with FF12-13 though I don't hate it, what do you remember about games like the old FF's, chrono trigger/chross remember each player would have their own skills like Limit Breaks, Squalls Lion Heart LB and stories. Pokemons another I am pretty sure they do pretty good without incorporating western.
@AJollie87 like I said I refuse to they're all too cartoony, same storyline, or setting. Yea I watched I don't know how long you've been into rpgs, but I stick to originality ever since FFIV on super nintendo no hard feelings but I just can't sever the ties between JRPGs and WRPG.
@AJollie87 "Cartoony" is the last word I would use to describe the last WRPG I played...I'm a young'un, so the first RPG I played was FFVII. JRPGs were what I grew up on. I've played Wild ARMs, Suikoden, the Xeno and Mana series, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, and Persona--the last two being the only series with recent entries that I really enjoyed. But I just got tired of familiar mechanics that didn't evolve with the technology and audience, so I tried a WRPG. I've never regretted it.
@celenas77 I was refering to MMORPG WOW i think it is.... yea same here, that was the first ps game i think i had played. I'm an art fanatic bro the over the top characters, scenerys and stuff in jrpgs hook me. And a ton of other shit, looking back at what i sad, WRPGs don't suck I just dislike playing them, except WOW that game is horrible. What WRPG would you recommend?
@AJollie87 Mass Effect 2. The art style is the polar opposite of Final Fantasy, though: black shadows as opposed to pastel gradients, gritty realism instead of glossy backgrounds. It might not be your cup of tea--space operas aren't mine, either--but ME2 is *far* more than its packaging. I can't adequately explain why it's so amazing; let's just say it felt like when I first played FF7. I intend to start on ME1, Dragon Age, the Witcher, and the Fallout series soon as I finish my 2nd playthru.
this franchise is going to bite the dust, with Final Fantasy games like this.
i wish Square-Enix would return to it's roots, and try to create an engaging Final Fantasy game, both in story and gameplay, doesn't have to be innovative or original, just fun, creative, and memorable.
if the battle system had ended up this way the game would have done better. they basicaly made it for RPG nubs.maybe SE wanted that so they could get a new fanbase or maybe not. but there improving it from here on.XIII-2 is supose to be an enhanced version and versus XIII looks epic.
I USE TO LOVE FINAL FANTASY GAMES, BUT AS SOON AS THEY CHANGED THE BATTLE SYSTEM, I HATE THE GAMES!! SQUARE BRING THE OLD BATTLE SYSTEM, THUMBS UP IF YOU AGREE!!
@evangelion015 No. This was a very early version of the battle system. They changed it multiple times. They tried to keep it as similar as possible. They didn't even want to have a "battle screen" but they ended up having to have one for some reason. Maybe they'll re-attempt this for XIII-2.
Alright, when I first played the game, I know it's already fucked up. So, got to chapter 11, wow... that's great, I guess it's not so bad. Got to Chapter 13, yes, very fruity and trying to be Tron. Really really fucked up! Sorry SquareEnix. You Royally fucked it up this time. I can't wait to see Versus though.
@XxNejiHyugaxX, I don't know. Hope that's a complement. Hahaha! But yeah... bunch of lines with outstanding color. The worst is pink .. soooo dumb... =_=!!
I like this game a lot the graphics where great, the story line is crystal clear, and the character creation is great so what’s not to like about this game.
I am so pissed that they treated us with this awesome, dynamic looking battle system and then they gave us some half-assed one that was hardly any different from the old ones and was pretty boring.
theres very little enjoyment in ff13 sorry thats why its not rememberd a week after ploaying ,ff8 had better music gameplay charators world i could go on hey come on square soft are better than square enix r now thats why ff games r just films now oh well
@getGTAignoreFakes wait till ff versus 13.ive heard its going to back to old methods, same graphic engine as ff13,and actual FULL world to explore, and a battle system of kingdom hearts.now THATS an amazing battle system....itll be out in a 1-2 years, its been in deveopment for about 3 and a half years now, nomura said the world is taking a really long time to make....ps3 only.
I enjoy both RPG's (Western & Japanese). WRPG's tend to be gothic, bloody, and open-ended in nature. JRPG's, tend to be colorful, artistic, and linear in nature. Contrary, to what the experts will say, FFXIII is a remarkable game (even if I haven't played it yet). I've always enjoyed FF games (played 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, & 12).
They should make a PC version and get money off it now before the emulator crowd figures out how to do 360 or PS3 ( Which will happen eventually ) and the game is only available pirated for the PC gamers.
the bettle system is a very small part of game , i judge on how the story can flow without 2 many cutscenes , FF8 was toataly origanal wish 13 could of been half as good,
I don't know why so much hate this games got, the franchise had to make changes to keep the vibe going. Personally I really enjoyed it and had a good plot to it, Characters were far more interesting than the ones from other FF games, and it had a cool fighting system. Yeah there were a couple of things that could've been added for more exploration but overall it was great game. Here's hoping to a sequel cuz I really liked those characters.
The FF team do need to step back and go back to how things were pre X times. Anything from ff I to FF IX was epic, ff X was quite good but really after I completed it, I restarted just to play blitzball lol. Alot of the side FF games have been great but the latest mainstream ones they seem to be over complicating things. They need to realise sometimes the simplistic storylines and gameplay backed with awesome character design and music worked best.
Fuck older Final Fantasy games...I played FF7 and that game was amazing...FF8 was like a dull clone of FF7...FF10 had a great story but my god was it tedious...
Im sick of playing the same old game with the same old battle system and the same old boring world and character design...the only Final Fantasy i have really enjoyed was FF7...that was until i played FF13...
It was a refreshing change...it offered characters i care about...its offered a new battle system...
According to Motomu Toriyama, the team disagreed on the key elements of Final Fantasy XIII, and what went wrong include the lack of cohesive vision, lack of finalized specifications, and lack of communication between the departments. Linearity and command-based battles have been perceived negatively. Those negative perceptions are unwarrated.
Everybody this game is not shit, yes the story may be a bit hard to understand but I you read through the chapters again it all makes sense and it may be linear but don't the outstanding graphics and great gameplay
make up for it, I would have liked to seen the original version unfortunately they changed it but if you're lazy you are not understanding the great qualities of this game
@Darkangelcrescent The story isn't that hard to learn since it was repeated over and over and over and over and over and over and over in the beginning >.>
@TheClevelandNinja The gameplay was very easy, true. The story was very good and presented well, true. I loved the character interactions and how their stories came together. The music is one of the best in the series also. This games does have good points which cannot be overlooked just because game play is easy. C'mon don't tell me you didn't die on at least one of those bosses or fight or didn't get chills from one part of the story/music.
Personally, I loved XIII. Sure, it was extremely linear for an rpg and antagonist didnt do much for me in terms of fueling the story. BUT, not only was the game beautiful, but the battle mechanics were cool and intuitive, albeit a little simple since I could tap x threw a lot of battle threw the first half of the game. But the game did offer great challenge and had a very interesting story in regards to the personal conflict of the characters. It was definitely a great game.
it's a beautiful game, it could have been better if they did some of the areas so tedious, if they mixed the teams for the 3 ffxiii's it could have stood up (based on story and playability) to the final fantasy's x and back
but of course it makes more fiscal sense to make 3 different final fantsy xiii's
i like the part when she was in the air then she went down and throw that ball lol and that vcircle thing poped all the soldiers was spinnig in the circle xD i got the its good lol didnt beat it yet though :( but going 2 though lol nice vid btw :D
@silent335 some of it was the battle system before the one today, others were at thje beggining cutscene and that part in the tunnle with light being a badass as always happens at the end of chapter 11. that part in the tunnle/tube realy does happen
@CHIPSTERO7 i get your point about the game. Its a different feel but, overall its still a good game. I agree with most of your points being a huge final fantasy fan myself. Your point about it having no towns to explore won't make any sense in the aspect that the characters are wanted criminals so going to a inn won't be such a good idea.
wtf !!!? i played 9 hours and i had to put the 2nd CD , then i checked out and it appears that i finished 4 chapters out of 13 already .... am fuckin dissapointed ..
final fantasy used to be a huge game with a minimum 70 hours of play .... that and plus there are no rest places like big cities to cruise around , its none stop action with 1 specific way that you cant turn a side from , this is not a final fantasy game .... not on my standards : (
Everyone please sign the ECA petition at my channel. GOODKyle1 We could possibly lose the right to rated M video games, even if you're over 17! Plus things are worse...11 US states are backing the Schwarzenegger vs EMA bill.
wait i dont get it why doesnt the original game have the same battle system. Because the trailer has the abilities like scrolling but in the original the abilities are just there... and how come most of these scenes arent even in the game... kinda disappointing
final fantasy xiii it good but the battle system on this trailer so perfect
fans want to see real final fantasy game on ps3 power
the fight start like xii and attacks like crisis core and kingdom hearts and this trailer with graphics like ffxiii and big maps like xi and xii good story like x and vii
that not impossiple with 2 or 3 blu-ray disc
but in other hand will made best game ever
square enix will lost their fans if they keeping on this
I think the cut-scences were cutting edg.the quality of the game is good,so far in the part that I'm in the cut-scences are dramatic and tell the story good.I have watched the ending on YouTube before and I think they could do better on THAT pecific part.I think hope should get his mother back.
Ive never played any of the final fantasy games but from what Ive seen and been told that they are really good games and im not sure which one to try first
@poonjavy54 Final Fantasy X is easy and fun! is the best starting then I sugest you to play the old ones before the new ones (XI, XII, XIII) my own personal favorite game of all FF's is Final Fnatasy 8...being 7 and 9 really amazing!...FF3 was really good too...I haven't played all of them yet..so take your time and start with whatever you like XD
Honestly the best game I've ever played. After I got over the game being so different from other FF's, I said "Screw it this game is FANTASTIC". Great job, Square Enix :)
GIRL DIED IN 1993, A MAN BURIED HER IN HER OWN home GIRL when she was still alive. The murderer chanted, "Toma sota balcu" as he buried her. Now that you have read the chant, you will meet this little girl. In the middle of the night she will stand at the side of your bed starring straight into your eyes. She will suffocate......... you... like she was suffocated. This story is sadly true. If you post this 5 differnt times she will not bother you
how is it possible that this was uploaded over 4 years ago? Has it been known to be coming out this year for that long? yeez what have I been doing the last 4 years. Thank god I bought it :P
Aah what could've been. I liked the game but it didn't exactly live up to my expectations. Bummer first final fantasy that doesn't have a weak heroine and it wasn't epic.
The temptation to inveigh against thie game a little longer is too much. The problem with games nowdays is that they're trying to be movies and FFXIII is apotheosis of a game that is desperately trying its hardest to be a Hollywood blockbuster instead of a game. It has no replay value, because cut-scenes take up 50% of the game and the customization is pitifully simple, not to mention there's no exploration, mini-games or NPCs. Poor game. Poor, poor game.
@CHIPSTERO7 The cutscenes were, generally, very confusing. But I expected as much. Although, it wasn't a minus for me. I'm a sucker for dramatic scenes that don't make much sense. And I could see how people don't like that. And the characters were all perfectly amazing for me, except for Vanille.
Hey, each to their own. If you thought the characters were excellentl and overall, enyoyed the game, more power to you. Admittedly, I had a soft spot for Fang, and Lightning had a marvellously ice-cool demeanor, but the rest just irked. I do love the game's faced-paced battle-system, but the strict linearity, personality-devoid villians, lack of exploration, overreliance on cut-scenes, and brain-destroyingly stupid characters, has ensured I'll never play the game again.
@CHIPSTERO7 That's fine for you. Some people enjoy the linear style of it, and some don't. I happen to like the linear pacing of it. It ensure I don't have to go looking for a walkthrough to find where in the world I'm supposed to go next. Yeah, Fang and Lightning were my two favourite characters, and I really liked Hope too despite that he was a real scaredy cat at the beginning. But at least you can say you did play it, and can judge it fairly.
@CHIPSTERO7 Have you even played the game ? It seems as though you just criticized it based on the trailers and previews. There are exploration during the game, and even though there aren't mini games, side quests and optional bosses are present. And apparently, to you, the game doesn't have NPC's. I can name a few such as Yaag, Jhil, and many more.
@bambichick15 No I played it, and the game didn't have many NPCs, not like in previous games, like say FFX or FFVII and there is no exploration, unless your idea of "exploration" is running in a straight line down walled-in environments for 25 hours. The game 's level-design is less sophisticated than PacMan and whatever you think, the mini-games suck. You would think that a console ten times more powerful than the PSone they would be able to come up with mini-games better than FFVII, but no.
@CHIPSTERO7 The exploration happened to be in the game. Do you not remember Gran Pulse ? I don't suppose you count a vast area linear ? And why get carried away with so many unnecessary NPC's that wouldn't even contribute to the story ? If you can provide examples in the story that NPC's would fit into, then be my guest. And anyways, every Final Fantasy is supposed to differ from one another. Who says each game needs mini games ?
@bambichick15 What is there is to do and explore in Gran Pulse? Not much apart from just aimlessly wandering around a giant empty plain repeatedly slaying identical sets of respawning monsters until you become acutely aware that nothing exciting is ever going to happen. And Gran Pulse was not linear, no, but 25 hours of unremitting linearity takes its toll. It's not so much the linearity, but the fact that the gameplay has so little variation. And mini-games are a staple in any good FF game.
@CHIPSTERO7 So are you saying that mini games is what makes a Final Fantasy a "good" game ? You bash on about the game play, yet say nothing about the story, or actually, anything good about it. I understand that you do not like the game, but do remember that this game was in fact created for new comers of Final Fantasy. It was intended to be enjoyable to those who never played Final Fantasy. Now, you are comparing this game to the past Final Fantasies. Keep in mind that every game is different.
@bambichick15 Mini-games don't automatically make a good FF game, but they do give the game greater variation and longevity, and like towns, they're a staple in every FF. As for the story, it was poorly told, leaving me reluctantly opening the datalog to fill in potholes. I won't go into depth with the story, these are structurally limited 90 word captions after all. And yes, the game was made for newcomers and instant fix-gamers, hence why it's so deplorably shallow with almost no replay-value.
@bambchick15 Also, yes I am comparing the game to other FF games. What's wrong with that? I realise that every game is different, but compared to previous games in the series is just sucked. The story was weak and incoherent, the characters, like Snow, were brainless one-dimensional morons, there's no variety to the game. You just walk down a corridor, get spammed by enemies, rinse and repease and then watch an overly-melodramatic cut-scene. There are over 25 hours of cut-scenes. Overkill, much?
@CHIPSTERO7 Nothing's wrong with the comparison, just please take into mind that people who are unfamiliar with Final Fantasy will enjoy this game. They have nothing to compare to, as they probably never played past games. I would think that most new gamers would rather enjoy the fact that they will not get side tracked in one town for over an hour or have to refer to guides after guides just to figure out where to go. But yes, I do agree that the creators did get carried away with the cutscenes
@bambi And that's my problem. The game was made for neophytes rather than seasoned FF players. FFXIII shouldn't have even been advertised as an RPG because it hasn't got one town worthy of the appellation, customization is shallow, exploration is pretty much non-existent for the first 25 hours. If you liked the game, more power to you, but FF is just example of a series pandering to casual gamers. TBH, I wouldn't have minded the linearity so much, if the story and characters were good, but alas.
@CHIPSTERO7 I enjoyed the game yes, but personally, I favor Final Fantasy X. Though it is true, considering that they had four years to work on this project, I would've preferred that the characters had slightly more depth to them. Also, I would have enjoyed the cut scenes a lot better if they had told the story with fluency instead of the story being told choppily.
@bambichick15 I have to say, I fell in love with Final Fantasy X and I don't really play RPG's all that much (I'm an Uncharted fan). But I looked at this and for me, it gives me a similar feeling to FFX (characterwise, storywise, just looking at the game itself).

I wish the spirit of Mufasa would appear for the FF creators and say: "Final Fantasy, you have forgotten who you are. Look inside yourself, you are more than what you have become. Remember who you are..."
In remembrance of FFX, the last true Final Fantasy.

Is this a good game to start on this franchise?
GhostSnake 6 months ago
@GhostSnake probably not, because of how radically different it is
if you really want to enjoy the franchise to it's fullest, i'd say start with FF9, it basically sums up final fantasy well, with decent graphics to boot
ff8,10 are he next in line, and i recommend 12 and 13 the last just because they really dont play like any other FF game
i left out ff7 and earlier because the graphics are a little TOO dated and you might not enjoy it

I even forgot they once tried to make a battle system like this.
Why so much different on the actual FFXIII? *sigh*
Sevenifity 8 months ago

Btw, check out the video I've uploaded on how to get 6000 Microsoft Points. I got myself 2 cards, sold one on Amazon, and kept one. Easy $25!
celenas77 10 months ago
When I first saw the trailer 5 years ago: "ZOMFG I CAN'T WAIT AGH!!!!!!"
After playing the game today : Well...why did I buy this for $60 :/
It certainly did not live up to the hype. A good game, but it completely lacks replay value.
dontbyvista 10 months ago

Easy $25
Emiliunikelxc 10 months ago 24
@Emiliunikelxc Yeah, I've heard many people believe this, like myself, and I have heard leaks from like posts on stuff on blogs that they have found that yes there was be extra things we missed. And you get to see things that were cut out of FFXIII.
Kairi56469 9 months ago
i personally think 13 would be better if it was developed on 3 disks instead of 1, as u just don't get thoses epic cd ender scenes that we saw in the ps1 days, like AERIS' DEATH or Squall getting fucking impaled by the sorceress and falling to what looked like his death.. i mean where were the moments like that even in final fantasy 10!!!

AJollie87 11 months ago
@AJollie87 WPGs don't suck. I used to think so, and then I tried one. There are certainly weak ones, same as JRPGs, but overall they offer newer ideas. (And what's this about less replay? After making so many branching decisions I feel I need a second playthrough to make different choices, perhaps with the protagonist as a different gender.) But consider me a new WRPG convert as of two weeks ago. I may never go back.
celenas77 10 months ago
@celenas77 I myself hate WRPG's as well. Sacred 2 Fallen Angel is terrible!
9HereticPrincess9 10 months ago
@9HereticPrincess9 Um...I didn't say I hated WRPGs. I'm a recent convert. They are pretty damn fun and addictive, and the stories are just as strong as those of the best JRPGs out there. Well, the quality ones, anyway. And I've never heard of "Sacred 2 Fallen Angel"...
celenas77 10 months ago
@celenas77 I'm sorry, I actually responded to you instead of @AJolie87.
9HereticPrincess9 10 months ago
@9HereticPrincess9 Oh, no worries. I've never heard of it, so I guess it's deservedly been forgotten by the general public. But to generalize all WRPGs as suckage is quite incorrect. There are some really amazing ones, and there are terrible ones, certainly, like JRPGs. But lately they're the ones that seem to be innovating the most.
celenas77 10 months ago
@celenas77 Very true. For a JRPG example, I think that Infinite Undiscovery is terrible, but all of the other JRPG's I own/have played (not necessarily to completion however) I've loved. So it's as you said, there are great/terrible WRPG's and great/terrible JRPG's :)
9HereticPrincess9 10 months ago
@celenas77 well I think they do because they have no basis and structured around DAD or games like WOW which I'd never touch JRPGs have the best stories, characters and such. If I wanted to play a game about history people walking for four movies to throw a ring in a fire pit I'd read a book. But thats your opinion I just don't think JRPGs should try to convert to western customs because they'll likely lose out on linearity in games.
AJollie87 9 months ago
@AJollie87 Not all WRPGs fall in that category. If you "don't touch" WRPGs, how can you say that they all unequivocally suck? I used to think that way. Then I caved and played ME2, and it felt like all the previous FFs I'd played were training bras and ME2 was that Victoria's Secret Embrace lace balcony bra. I had no idea this was the stuff I was missing! I don't think JRPGs should "convert to Western customs" either, but it wouldn't hurt them to learn the good things from other games.
celenas77 9 months ago
@celenas77 ME2 I taking your talking about mass effect? It probably has rpg features, but nothing like an original its a shooter. Like gta SA had "rpg features" but it was still a sandbox shooter, I've watched friends and family play them enough to know they suck. WRPGs like Fable, ME, Fallout, Might and Magic is absurd theres no creativity, no concept, no real story and all too predictable LOTR setting places you set on one path throughout the whole game.
AJollie87 9 months ago
@AJollie87 Um, ME and Fallout have "no story, no originality, no concept"? Maybe you were watching the wrong game/s. The only reason I played ME2 in the first place was because people kept recommending it to me, even diehard JRPG fans. ME2 is SO much more than a "shooter RPG", which I originally thought as well. WRPGs have come a long, long way. So you don't even play them and you decided they sucked? Wow. Guess I can't convince you otherwise if you're so dead set against giving them a chance.
celenas77 9 months ago
@celenas77 what could they possibly learn from western customs? real talk, SE fucked up with FF12-13 though I don't hate it, what do you remember about games like the old FF's, chrono trigger/chross remember each player would have their own skills like Limit Breaks, Squalls Lion Heart LB and stories. Pokemons another I am pretty sure they do pretty good without incorporating western.
AJollie87 9 months ago
@AJollie87 like I said I refuse to they're all too cartoony, same storyline, or setting. Yea I watched I don't know how long you've been into rpgs, but I stick to originality ever since FFIV on super nintendo no hard feelings but I just can't sever the ties between JRPGs and WRPG.
AJollie87 9 months ago
@AJollie87 "Cartoony" is the last word I would use to describe the last WRPG I played...I'm a young'un, so the first RPG I played was FFVII. JRPGs were what I grew up on. I've played Wild ARMs, Suikoden, the Xeno and Mana series, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, and Persona--the last two being the only series with recent entries that I really enjoyed. But I just got tired of familiar mechanics that didn't evolve with the technology and audience, so I tried a WRPG. I've never regretted it.
celenas77 9 months ago
@celenas77 I was refering to MMORPG WOW i think it is.... yea same here, that was the first ps game i think i had played. I'm an art fanatic bro the over the top characters, scenerys and stuff in jrpgs hook me. And a ton of other shit, looking back at what i sad, WRPGs don't suck I just dislike playing them, except WOW that game is horrible. What WRPG would you recommend?
AJollie87 9 months ago

@evangelion015 No. This was a very early version of the battle system. They changed it multiple times. They tried to keep it as similar as possible. They didn't even want to have a "battle screen" but they ended up having to have one for some reason. Maybe they'll re-attempt this for XIII-2.

According to Motomu Toriyama, the team disagreed on the key elements of Final Fantasy XIII, and what went wrong include the lack of cohesive vision, lack of finalized specifications, and lack of communication between the departments. Linearity and command-based battles have been perceived negatively. Those negative perceptions are unwarrated.

jamesbrain1 1 year ago
It's very similar to God Of War 3 with how linear the gameplay was (following a path)
Brandonlw93 1 year ago
Personally, I loved XIII. Sure, it was extremely linear for an rpg and antagonist didnt do much for me in terms of fueling the story. BUT, not only was the game beautiful, but the battle mechanics were cool and intuitive, albeit a little simple since I could tap x threw a lot of battle threw the first half of the game. But the game did offer great challenge and had a very interesting story in regards to the personal conflict of the characters. It was definitely a great game.
Bmello11 1 year ago 3
it's a beautiful game, it could have been better if they did some of the areas so tedious, if they mixed the teams for the 3 ffxiii's it could have stood up (based on story and playability) to the final fantasy's x and back
but of course it makes more fiscal sense to make 3 different final fantsy xiii's
oh well, hopefully xv will stand out

@IrritableGiraffe

I can name a few such as Yaag, Jhil, and many more.
bambichick15 1 year ago
@bambichick15 No I played it, and the game didn't have many NPCs, not like in previous games, like say FFX or FFVII and there is no exploration, unless your idea of "exploration" is running in a straight line down walled-in environments for 25 hours. The game 's level-design is less sophisticated than PacMan and whatever you think, the mini-games suck. You would think that a console ten times more powerful than the PSone they would be able to come up with mini-games better than FFVII, but no.
CHIPSTERO7 1 year ago
@CHIPSTERO7 The exploration happened to be in the game. Do you not remember Gran Pulse ? I don't suppose you count a vast area linear ? And why get carried away with so many unnecessary NPC's that wouldn't even contribute to the story ? If you can provide examples in the story that NPC's would fit into, then be my guest. And anyways, every Final Fantasy is supposed to differ from one another. Who says each game needs mini games ?
bambichick15 1 year ago
@bambichick15 What is there is to do and explore in Gran Pulse? Not much apart from just aimlessly wandering around a giant empty plain repeatedly slaying identical sets of respawning monsters until you become acutely aware that nothing exciting is ever going to happen. And Gran Pulse was not linear, no, but 25 hours of unremitting linearity takes its toll. It's not so much the linearity, but the fact that the gameplay has so little variation. And mini-games are a staple in any good FF game.
CHIPSTERO7 1 year ago
@CHIPSTERO7 So are you saying that mini games is what makes a Final Fantasy a "good" game ? You bash on about the game play, yet say nothing about the story, or actually, anything good about it. I understand that you do not like the game, but do remember that this game was in fact created for new comers of Final Fantasy. It was intended to be enjoyable to those who never played Final Fantasy. Now, you are comparing this game to the past Final Fantasies. Keep in mind that every game is different.
bambichick15 1 year ago
@bambichick15 Mini-games don't automatically make a good FF game, but they do give the game greater variation and longevity, and like towns, they're a staple in every FF. As for the story, it was poorly told, leaving me reluctantly opening the datalog to fill in potholes. I won't go into depth with the story, these are structurally limited 90 word captions after all. And yes, the game was made for newcomers and instant fix-gamers, hence why it's so deplorably shallow with almost no replay-value.

@drxwnedxwxrld I care, idiot. Otherwise I wouldn't be here, would I?

CHIPSTERO7 1 year ago
@CHIPSTERO7 Nothing's wrong with the comparison, just please take into mind that people who are unfamiliar with Final Fantasy will enjoy this game. They have nothing to compare to, as they probably never played past games. I would think that most new gamers would rather enjoy the fact that they will not get side tracked in one town for over an hour or have to refer to guides after guides just to figure out where to go. But yes, I do agree that the creators did get carried away with the cutscenes
bambichick15 1 year ago

I love it, it's brilliant :)
