  • The hard-top just helps the weight distribution a bit without being so heavy as to hamper performance in any meaningful way. As far as the "smile" well people over-exaggerate the hell out of it. The new MX-5 looks stunning from any angle and certainly the best looking Miata ever.

It's the best car to drive south of 45-50K IMO. It's pointless to spend a lot more if you're looking for a sports car.

  • I'm buying a 11-12' MX-5 6MT hard-top next year (sept/oct). It's simply the best car to drive south of 45-50K. The 370z for example is much quicker but not nearly as fun to drive as the MX-5. The S2K is a great car but it's not the best daily driver / more of a weekend car. The MX-5 strikes just the right balance of power and comfort to be a great fun daily driver. The last thing it needs is more power because if you've ever driven one you'd know it's plenty quick without being so fast you can'

  • so cute!!!! top gear took the older version through a desert and other challenges...and it proved it self to be the best 2 seater sports car

  • "Remember, there are no bad cars these days, just bad drivers." Then he rolls back 3 feet before getting it into first gear!

  • haha there are no bad cars, just bad drivers. then he drives off swerves off the road and slams a tree

  • MX5 IS GREAT, BUT IF U GOT SEOME GOOD MONEY TO SPEND ON A REAL TOP DOWN SPROTS CAR GO FOR THE BMW Z4,COMFORTABLE AS HELL, AND POWER SEATS AND LEATHER SEATS AND POWER TOP.

  • @Wildman2291 wanker

  • The "smiling bumper" mazda uses these days looks like crap, I want the old nose back.

  • That idiot can't do an uphill start with a stick.

  • heh heh looks like it's smiling :)

  • @ayysylviee When I get one, I'll have to put some teeth in there. :D

  • funny if he stalled at the last part.

    Hope i own a miata someday =)

  • Good job on the commentary.

  • The Miata is such a unique car. Unfortunately, it gets a "chick car" reputation here in the States b/c it is the polar opposite of a muscle car: small and nimble vs cumbersome and powerful. I don't understand why anyone would get the hard top; it's blasphemous to add 80 lbs to a featherweight roadster that was built with lightness in mind. I'm surprised that the MX-5 has no rivals (now that the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky are gone). Good job Mazda. Keep up the good work.

  • I like the background music.

  • do you guys call the mx-5 "miata" or is it just this guy?

  • @felix954 Mazda USA started to call it the Miata again. They tried to retire the name when this series came out but the public knows it by that name.

  • A car for people who know about cars. Staying true to it's roots.

  • Just bought my wife one for the summer time...but I wouldn't be cought dead in it...Hope you enjoy it honey...

  • @mic01 She is having all the fun to herself, Good for you. She should be one happy camper. So in your world what a man wears or drives makes him. Huge mistake, you can drive a Ford super duty and take it the ass (gay), Some straight guys wear pink shirts for fashion, any chance this things change a real man. If you think they do, you got serious problems.

  • I was really considering getting a 2010 when they came out, but what the hell is up with the GAY smiley grill?????

Someone please come out with an aftermarket grill and wipe the smile off it's face! Seriously!

  • My god, you're a fucking idiot.

  • @ApproachSpeed Mazda is smart this is the most fun coming from Mazda and its smile is a reflection of how the owner will smile and enjoy this great car. They want the message loud and clear if it was a boring car it would probably look different but is not, so this is the right way. Kudos for Mazda.

  • @ApproachSpeed get the 2008

  • I love my 2006.. but I am thinking I want a new 2010 now!

  • did u decide yet? i'm ready to purchase my first car and i'm torn between the two as well

  • I am a lucky one, I have a 2007 model with folding hardtop and it is a pleasure to drive. love it although I am also debating whether to sell it for a 370z. VERY TOUGH DECISION!!!

  • @nicknickk If you value fuel economy and reliability I would keep the Miata around, Nissan's reliability is not what is used to be, The 370 roadster has one of the biggest blind spot I have seen in a convertible.

  • A true roadster!!!

  • They neeeeeeeeeeeeeeedd to put the Speed 3 engine in it. In fact Mazda should include the speed 3 engine in all mx5s. That would really make the car fun! Please Email Mazda and let them know...

  • The Miata is a lot of great sports car for very little money.

I just bought a 99 Miata and added a style/roll bar, an exhausts, and a racing steering wheel.

    it's Awesome.

Don't underestimate a Miata just because it's small, cute and weak.

Pound for pound, or dollar for dollar...the Miata is arguably the best sports car.

  • I hate the new redesign, it looks goofy. Glad I got my 2006 when it came out.

  • The hell are you talking about!! the new redesigned front is awesome!!. The car looks a lot more aggressive with personality.

    Get some glasses son!!

  • lol i like the long back roll at the end. But yes Mazda continues to impress me :)

  • A car for a "real" driver.

  • Mazda keeps making me proud, LOL nice review amazing car.

  • Wow! That looks like a fun gig! Beautiful car and great review.

    I want one!
