Dear "josephithink", there is increasing improvisation as the player moves away from the initial melody. To a greater or lesser degree there are habitual patterns to which the performer refers, but a good 3/4 - 1/4 of the material may justly be claimed as improvised. However, with an old folk tune like this one he stays closer to traditional patterns so it's more like the 1/4 figure. (I estimate.) Do you like the audible expressions of delight on the part of an audience member? (I do.)
in indian classical music how much is improvisation if any? i am solely an improvisor myself and am curious about such things because i love this music!!! is there a melody that gets reinterpreted over and over?
Superb!

One of the best rendering of Pahari. Reminds me of mountains and valleys.
