What I do is pretty much the same but with a clean install.

I erase all my hdd using utilities. Then install the Snow Leopard and in the options menu I choose not to install any lenguages, printers drives(which I only use one I think is better to just download the drivers of it), and things that I will never use.

Works pretty fast even tho I have one gig of ram running in snow leopard.

reset safari. sounds too simple, but trust me. safari doesn't limit its cache too well, so you need to reset your safari once in a while. it will delete your cache and history and everything will be running good as new
