@CoolHatMan100 yes, homemade solenoid. The bobbin was turned from a very hard wood and quite thin wall. The copper wire was wound on using the lathe.

some improvements, though could be to make the armature E shaped, and have it surround the coil using the magnetic field on the outside of the coil to get more pull, and to put a repelling magnet on the opposite side for more push.
