I'm a beginner and I mean I have no 2 wheel experience at all and I was deciding between 2 bikes as my first. The Ninja 250r and the 500r (both used). I like the new look of the 250 but i'm just worried that if i buy the 250, i'll get bored of riding it and would want to upgrade to a 600 in 6 months. But at the same time the 500 provides more power while it still being a beginners bike and not a supersports bike. So will the 500 keep me smiling longer than the 250? Or is it the same feel?
@plehdehgame The 500 is the way to go, But it's not SLOW by any means ! Just take it easy for the first 1000 miles, Then only ride within your ability's. Wear the proper clothing also, You will be fine if you do. Ride safe, yl
if people think about it. when are you really going to go 100+mph? yes highways but how often do you do it? most people use bikes to drive around go to work etc. its rare that you see an open striaght away so you can just push it. i have a 500r and it does the trick. got enough power and easy to move around traffic. light and sweet. and its a fun fuck around bike like try new things and get use to riding. lol
Low how people just rag on other guys videos about their bike choice. There are too many idiots that try to ride a liter bike for their first bike with no helmet shorts and a t-shirt and get smeared. Props on the Ninja, amesome bike.
Although Im not too keen on the look of these bikes. They sound like great bikes to have as your first "big" bike. Im hopefully getting one in a couple of weeks.
If I remember correctly these bikes will do 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds and 0-85mph in about 10 seconds. Not bad if you ask me.
@IP1NKYI I have one and actually the 0-60 is theoretically 3.7 seconds but if your an average driver it can be 4 and under. And yeah the top speed is around 130. I love my 500 and honestly there is not too much of a difference between an older 500 and an older 600. Just more torque, a slightly higher top speed, and slightly faster 0-60. However 500 means 500cc which means not 600cc plus insurance rates :D
I ended up buying a '99 SV650S, which also has cheap insurance plus I like the look of it more which is a bonus. Going to buy a Delkevic Slip-on for it early next year. :)
Where I live the top speed limit is 70mph, sooo hitting 120mph would be a huge ticket. Riding you bike that fast on the street is dumb and dangerous - i don't care about your health but I do care about mine, and my kids. So take it to the track!
I agree - riding on the street is not dumb and dangerous - riding dumb on the street is dangerous. I don't see many cars actually going 120 on the road, but I do often see motorcyclists going past me at a blur when I am already doing 70-75mph. I realize it may just be the riders in my area. Don't get me wrong I ride and support the right to ride, but lets do so with in the law.
I am thinking about buying my first bike..I am going to a weekend class to get my permit bla,bla,bla.. I was wondering should I get a 250 or 500? i think 250 might be too little ( in power i mean... I am 5'7 140lb by the way) but 500 seems to have the power i am looking for ( but i really don't know). However what you guys think? should I go 250 r is it 500 ok for 1st time? Thanks!
i been looking around all i could find was used ones 7k miles for 3k around my area, i found a 750r for $800 bit its a 86 version and prolly has countless miles on it
Wish I had a bike cam.If I did,I'd post a video on that so fast. When you see for yourself, you'd be like, damn.Matter of fact, how much is a bike cam?I take it you're another guy that believes the 5 can only go about 110-120mph.LMAO.You really have no idea.Maybe the 5 you've been are that slow.Mine is not.Maybe you've been on that weak ass gs500.A little 250 could smoke that.
What?!!? A 250 could smoke a GS500? Now I know you're fucking retarded. Are you talking straight line speed or what? I do have a GS, and I KNOW there's not much of a difference in HP between Kawasaki and a Suzuki 500. I've topped that bike out to 115-120 MPH INDICATED! I probably wasn't even goig that fast. You get a few shots of your speed on a GPS unit and I'll eat my words. Until then, you're merely speculating.

There is a difference between the ex5 and the gs5.The 250 and the gs5 go the same speed.I find it funny cause a little 250 can pretty much keep up with suzuki's gs5.The gs5 wont go past 120 unless you've done something to it.The ex50 would go past 140.I know cause I've done it.
So the HP readings on Kawasaki's and Suzuki's sites are just made up numbers then? The Ninja sticker on that 500 doesn't add 50hp. The only major different between the GS and the EX is that the EX is liquid cooled. That's it. Oh, and the rider. But we're talking about top speed. You've never touched an actual 140 on that bike... unless you have a shot of NOS or a turbo charger on that bike. Even then it would be a stretch.
LMAO.Dude you cant tell me that I've never hit the 140 mark or past it.Oh well,I'll just have to show you when ever I buy a cam for it.Cause action speaks louder than words.I dont need NOS or a tubro charger. My bike has more than 50bhp also.^_^
There's an 11hp stock difference between the GS500 and the EX500. Still, that won't get you up to 140mph. My '99 EX has a single Muzzy, jet kit, pod filters, plus it's stripped of the front fairings and headlight (weight 1/2 wet ~375lbs), and barely reaches 130mph. Unless you changed the gearing, I have my doubts also. Keep in mind, the stock speedo is off at like 57mph actual - 60mph speedo indicated. So most specs are right when they say the bike only reaches 120mph.
128 is about what my buddy's EX500 will do. And that's the indicated speed. I think actual speed is actually 8 mph slower... And yes, the HP difference is 10 or 11..
RTiger18 I have a ninja500r and I don't believe you that it can past 140mph, I did about 200kph wich is about 120mph are you sure that you are talking MPH.
yes.I've got one also. When i get it out the shop,I'll show you.Its alright that you dont believe me.I know for a fact mine goes past 120mph.Guess I'll have to show you as well.
This is my bike to a tee, same color too. Make sure to wave if you ever see me, heh. I'm having alot of fun on mine, it's small, but it can still haul ass.
I just bought a used one, I've screwed around on hand-me-down enduros from my dad's generation but this is the first bike that's all mine, found and paid for. I'm pretty stoked!
Real nice bike, guess what i just bought one just like that one a week ago same color too. if you are a beginner and 5'5 ft tall like me I think this is the bike to get. I was going to get a honda cbr600rr, but I'm positively sure I did the right choice, by the way if you never rode a bike before consider taking a rider course, it is worth it.
Sportier looks mean jack shit. I love to see idiots talk about how sporty a bike looks. I bet they think they look awesome wearing shorts and a t-shirt while doing wheelies on their gixxers. Have fun in the hospital. The rest of us who ride for ourselves know what a capable bike this is.
