  • This song,once upon a time,saved my life....Thanks.

  • This is what I'm doing right now with my life.

  • My parents got me into R.E.M and I love them! Nightswimming, Man on the moon, Find the River, and Green Grows the rushes are my favorite songs. =D can't stop listening to this one.

  • what a great band....so many great songs, thank you

  • Such a beautiful song.

  • thanks Stipe, you're such a poet

  • A Bizarre Collection Of Puzzles by The Enigma

  • My favorite REM song, among so many contenders. It shakes me to the bone every time. Every fucking time.

  • Greatest American Band Of All Time!!

  • Saw them 3 times...jeez if I could see them one more...but these guys are just as honest as their wonderful music, so I know I won't...:(

  • This, and half a world away, will haunt me till my dyin day.

  • For a side-two track from an atypical REM album, this has become one of my top five REM tunes. Not sure why. It is just beautiful. Seems to put the the struggle of life into perspective. River. Light-years. The waxing and waning of years and bergamont and vetiver. Hay. And the river emptying into the ocean.

    Wow.

  • Frankly, I can't write a very heartfelt comment about this song because it just leaves me speechless every time I hear it. Thank you R.E.M. for creating such a timeless masterpiece.

  • True story: the first time i listened to REM was when i found this album on top of my locker, not sure how it got there or whom it belonged to, but i still own it and its still one of the few perfect musical creations.

  • I'll take this over Shinny Happy People anyday, guess i just love sad tunes. This is amazing beyond belief.

  • Thank you R.E.M. I will never forget you!!! What wonderfull 31 years!

'the skill in attending a party is knowing when it's time to leave.'

    Leaving R.E.M never easy,

I saw the light fading out.

Find it in your heart, it's pulling me apart,

Find it in your heart, it's pulling me apart.

I told you, forever, I love you, forever, forever, forever...

  • wasn't kurk Cobain listening to this album when he killed himself ?

  • @HUDJames yes

  • this song is lovely. it makes me homesick for when i was 23 years old & not yet disillusioned. .. & i'll only listen to it at night

  • @freedo333 You echoed my thoughts exactly.

  • mmmh that was lovely, cheers for uploading, It made me remember nick drakes "riverman" which i`m of to listen to now. I love rediscovering these little gems.

  • The last song on the album.

And the last song of Kurt Cobain's life. :(

  • I love, I like ,I feel , I pray that some day I will also find the river of life into an ocean of dreams;)

  • It sounds like a homage to "Thrasher" by Neil Young...a homage, mind you, not a rip-off. A beautifully pieced-together tribute.

  • R.E.M. lyrics should be canonized and studied in Contemporary Literature classrooms everywhere.

  • One of the few PERFECT albums of the century!

  • @LaFemmeOlowe Perfect, yes. Few? Not really. :P

  • Nightswimming + Find the River = Amazing

  • @happycheeba My two favorite REM sings if I had to narrow it down.

  • @happycheeba Is there a better one-two punch to close out an album? I can think of one.

  • @happycheeba And Sweetness follows ... (Bonus)

  • @happycheeba And Man on the Moon. I think the three are meant to go together. I think the three songs represent the three main stages of life: Childhood (Man on the Moon), Adulthood (Nightswimming) and Later Life (Find the River).

  • @xsurfnturfx @Alvarolvaro You ve had a great thought about these three songs. I agree with you. cheers!

  • @muskypucker - you measure the world by how many views your favorite vids get on youtube?

I wonder if there might be a more scientific / smarter way to asses the world around you, or had you exhausted all other measurements and settled on this bizarre way?

  • how can NOT like this song!?

  • Its one of those songs that makes me so sad, I don't know why i listen to it so much.

  • One of the finest songs ever written. REM at their absolute best.

  • Finally, a version of the song that isn't a concert recording! (I hate those) Unfortunately, there's a chance this may soon be pulled since the album by a certain music label that is notorious for doing so on Youtube.
