My parents got me into R.E.M and I love them! Nightswimming, Man on the moon, Find the River, and Green Grows the rushes are my favorite songs. =D can't stop listening to this one.
For a side-two track from an atypical REM album, this has become one of my top five REM tunes. Not sure why. It is just beautiful. Seems to put the the struggle of life into perspective. River. Light-years. The waxing and waning of years and bergamont and vetiver. Hay. And the river emptying into the ocean.
Frankly, I can't write a very heartfelt comment about this song because it just leaves me speechless every time I hear it. Thank you R.E.M. for creating such a timeless masterpiece.
True story: the first time i listened to REM was when i found this album on top of my locker, not sure how it got there or whom it belonged to, but i still own it and its still one of the few perfect musical creations.
mmmh that was lovely, cheers for uploading, It made me remember nick drakes "riverman" which i`m of to listen to now. I love rediscovering these little gems.
@happycheeba And Man on the Moon. I think the three are meant to go together. I think the three songs represent the three main stages of life: Childhood (Man on the Moon), Adulthood (Nightswimming) and Later Life (Find the River).
@muskypucker - you measure the world by how many views your favorite vids get on youtube?
I wonder if there might be a more scientific / smarter way to asses the world around you, or had you exhausted all other measurements and settled on this bizarre way?
Finally, a version of the song that isn't a concert recording! (I hate those) Unfortunately, there's a chance this may soon be pulled since the album by a certain music label that is notorious for doing so on Youtube.
This song,once upon a time,saved my life....Thanks.

It sounds like a homage to "Thrasher" by Neil Young...a homage, mind you, not a rip-off. A beautifully pieced-together tribute.
