I bought that 45 when it first came out and played it over & over till I drove my mom nuts !! My Aunt was visiting at the time, she is now in her 80's as I am about 65. I think she must still know that happy song thanks to her teenage Niece back in 63 !! Thanks for the fun memories, I now have 18 grandchildren and I have posted this on face book so they know what their grandma was doing back in her teenage yrs. The Baby Boom years were the best !!!
That is so cool whoever sent me the message. I remember them as Bob Seger And The Last Herd also. I did some work for Bob and his early band as a teen. in the sixties early seventies. I will be seeing Bob tonight in concert one more time. In Columbus
The message was from me, DooWopJoe, whose channel you are on when seeing this Jimmy Gilmer clip of "Sugar Shack." Hope you have a great time and hope Bob sounds great, too!
This song was always played in the years at a little club called The Sugar Shack. in Columbus, Ohio. When a band such as The Bob Seger System would take a break. This was the only song that would be played on the jukebox. A great memory.
I remember the Sugar Shack -- I attend The Ohio State University. I also remember Bob Seger long before the Bob Seger System. In the early days it was Bob Seger and the Last Herd.
I saw him Live in Springfield Missouri in the 80's athey were playing in a bar inside the bowling alley. The band was great and they played all kinds of stuff.
Great memories...He introduced SS at a sock hop at Amarillo College when I was a student there. His sister lived across the street from me, and sometimes he and his band would rehearse in his parents' garage.
Yes, that is Tommy, and Denny Laine is next to him. Everyone in audience (with exception of 2 or 3 people) is a singer/songwriter. Check my other videos to see performances by many of them.
Check some other videos I have uploaded, which include Jimmie Rodgers, Ray Peterson, Dickey Lee, Denny Laine, Tommy Roe, Dee Dee Sharp, Dennis Yost, Jimmy Clanton, Pat Upton, Gene Hughes, Billy Joe Royal, The Browns, Len Barry, Maurice Williams, and Joanie Summers, to name a few. Scan my videos and you will recognize by the photos which are from this event.
Davey, that is not Peggy March. Her name is Julie Smith and she was a booking agent for many of the performers on the show. I do have a Peggy March video on my channel from another show in which she appeared.
Joe-I bought the videos from Larry Blacks daughter or niece. She was going to sell me the rest of the tapes pretty cheap and I never took her up on it.
I found all 11 hours to be fascinating to the point that when the last video tape ended, I was wishing I had more. The average viewer or listener may not have been as interested in all the stories that some of us were, and did not want to devote all those hours to viewing it.. That is probably why this special was not as popular as many others. Perhaps they should have rerun just the songs.
Sorry, but I cannot remember her name. She is one of the very few in the group who was not a performer. As I recall, she was either a producer and/or songwriter. When I watch the program again I will pay attention to her name and post it here.
Thank you for posting this. One of my all time favorites. No.1 hit when I met my future husband. I was a junior HS. We were traveling in his black volkswagon fastback and the song was in perfect rhythm to the sound of the car passing over some railroad tracks.
Other songs that bring back memories of our dating years: Going to the Chapel, Down in the boondocks, The Lion Sleeps tonight, I Will Follow Him, Love Me With All Your Heart, Cherish, You're the One, Save Your Heart For Me, Soldier Boy.
Wow, great to hear Jimmy is still in fine voice. Loved his music since the 60s, bought a few of the ACE CDs. Love his version of 'Blowin' in the Wind'.
Wow. So great to hear these people again; thanks! I met Jimmy, George, Norman, and the Fireballs (great instrumental rock band) in the late 60s at Norman Petty's studio in Clovis. I was too young 'n dumb to know how close to greatness I was. Buddy Holly gold records all over the place! Jimmy was a very engaging person, and our band, "Willie and the Walkers" from Edmonton were lucky to sample the strata. Such a strong era of musical greatness and vast change. Some went with change; many didn't...
@virginian2331 Hey, great comments! Love it when people remember times in their lives because of this music. I am sure it is even more special for those who were lucky enough to have met or performed with these great artists.

@beefoneeto
No, I don't have 11 hours worth. I had the video tapes of them, and it added up to just over 6.5 hours.
