@slytherinnyc A triple flip is a triple toe salchow - same thing. A lot of the European commentators called jumps by different names such as rittberger instead of loop and there were a whole host of names for a triple toe. All very confusing but Alan Weeks who was the commentator here, eventually began calling it a flip in 1994 I think.
@floskate im having a hard time understanding technically. a flip takes off from your right foot, well at least in midori's case. a toe or a salchow takes off from your left. yes, the edge requirement for flip is inside just like the salchow but its still not the vaulting foot. just trying to understand the logic behind the 'triple toe salchow' term.....
@slytherinnyc the salchow takes of from a back inside edge with no assist, the flip takes off from a back inside edge with a toe assist. As the salchow came first in terms of inventing jumps, when the flip came about, some people obviously thought it was like a salchow (usually entered from a 3turn to a left back inside edge) so the term toe salchow came about.
WOW! I've never seen this version before! Thanks alot :D I LOVE hearing what all the commentators have to say about any of her brilliant performances, like this one.
Any of her triple jumps is not even close to "under-rotated" which is really common nowadays.

I like the commentator; he really appreciates Midori's skating. She did an even better 3X axel than at 89 Worlds

@floskate Yes, a triple flip is a triple salchow with the assistance of the toe-pick, so it's sometimes called the triple toe salchow.

If she were to compete in the new system, she'd get +3's on her jumps. I mean they are big and they are faster than most women I've seen.
