Wow.. that sudden "shut down" is not normal! My UL30 does not do that if I tap it hard. Happy to see you got it repaired. The plastic on the right hand-rest have the same cracking noise on mine.. but I tightened the screw underneath some time ago which seems to have helped a lot. Not entirely gone though. But considering that's the only real "problem" I've had with my UL30 I'd still say it's a pretty good laptop.
I agree, I'm generally very pleased with the UL30, especially the battery life and the repair process was pretty painless, just leaving the video up in case anyone else has these problems. Good shout on tightening the screw to reduce the squeak, I'll give it a shot.

Unbelievable. I had the same split in the plastic shell occur in the exact same spot as you. Did it get any worse? I thought I had mishandled my UL30, but after seeing this I'm wondering if it's a defect in the construction.
You must have a dodgy 1, ive got one and have no problems.

lol you have a faulty one and also my laptop UL30vt does not creak and restart automatically when you press the panic button on the keyboard

Update: sent it back for repair, which they have done!
Motherboard replaced.
I'll leave this up in case anyone else has this problem.
