Someone might throw something at me but I recognise this from MadTracker 2 (I know it's by the same artist).

1. VVVVVV is NOT 8-bit. It's for a 32-bit platform (AFAIK); hence, 32-bit.

2. Having said that, I believe this was done using kicks and square waves. Yes, that's it.

3. The soundtrack isn't "8-bit", either, nor is it within constraints of actual "8-bit" platforms (the kickdrum alone tells this).

4. I did actually made an 8-bit game for Ludumdare recently (Sega Master System).
