That's commonly known as the slipknot and is not effective for hanging. The hangmans noose is actually illegal to teach in UK and USA (and a good thing too)and has either 9 or 13 turns depending on preference.

To be honest if you couldnt figure out how to tie the above knot, your probably not gunna last long in the world as it is ;-)
