Call me mad but i think Alan Douglas did a great job on these albums, especially on "Nine to the Universe" and "The Jimi Hendrix Concerts". Session players hired aside, these tracks capture the essence of Hendrix's music. The new mixes by Eddie Kramer (for istance on "West Coast Seattle Boy") are flat IMHO, without any emotion to them.
This happens sometimes a producers adds a lot of stupid shit to the original he has to make money (like singing girls and extra guitars). The original version is much better on "Blues".
the euphoric crescendo toward the end (4:11) makes me wanna push the a acelerator right through the floor and accend into space flying at light speed through the cosmos.
This slow slow slow blues cut is pure Delta Blues. It's tempo allows Jimi to lay into it with a lot of feeling. The background vocals give it that holiness feel as Jimi's track builds with sassy wah-wah remarks to a nasty nasty crescendo with Jimi exploding into a fierce solo. Best to be heard with headphones, you can hear his creativity with the swirling stereo effects. Jimi was just operating on genius level!!!
He had a trippy git sound on this LP and also on the "Crash Landing" LP
I like this period of Jimi's career.....during this period he was doing alot more collaboration and experimentation. He even did a funk song or two....
I trip whenever I think about how prolific he was during his career and how many
songs he wrote/recorded between about 1964-1970. The man was a workaholic!!! Lucky for us he recorded all those and we get to enjoy them :)
@econoroller This album was finished by eddie kramer i believe. They were just bits and pieces recorded and he hired session musicians to fill in and add parts.
the only guy that been for 1st guitarist for more than 40 years..

@EZIOTHEMASTER I totally agree. Thanks Alan Douglas. Especially for Nine to The Universe... Without it, my life would seriously be different man.

This album is crap imo. Recorded after Jimi died, with people playing along to Jimi tracks. Fucking leeches.

The original recording has no beginning.
