you have to be an administrator to actually pull that off as i sat down infront of my xp machine here and created a limited account, logged on and followed those steps.

the console outputs the following:

System error 5 has occured.

Acess is denied.

alright guys i found a trick to get onto to the command prompt without being an admin.

( note i only tried this on xp )

open up task manager>new task>browse>my computer

right click your main disk drive ( most likely C:\ )

and click command prompt here...

and ta-da!

don't worry, youre doing it wright.

It's just that u cant see what you are typing so make sure that u dont make a mistake while typing your new password. If you don't want to write a password, simply press ENTER to pass to the next action which is "rewrite password". Press ENTER again and thats it!

But if you'r on a guest user, u cant change admin pass right away.

Tehn u have to change the screensaver to <cmd> and log off, so when u get login screen where u can choose between users and wait <screensaver time> the <cmd> line will appear, then u can do this :)

In your example you did it from a admin on your own user right? =)
