~tell ya what... --I've got an 05' Sentra SE-R that seems to have this problem...but I find that holding the key in start (...for a few seconds) always works from the first attempt...
What does THAT sound like... (--fuel pressure system...or maybe...the ign.switch)?... :\
Hey guys, I have this same issue on my 2004 SER Spec V. It's frustratingly sporadic. They replaced my fuel pump (luckily still on warranty at the time). I don't think it helped. One tech finally suggested turning the key so the instrument panel lights up (and the fuel injectors fire up?) for a second before attempting to start. I have not noticed a problem since I started including this one-second "pause" when turning the key. Hope it helps.
check your pcv valve... clean it out... and your plugs... or it could be your gas pump.. the pump is located under your back seat just pull out your seat cushon it should be in the center... you can hear it pump when you turn your ignition on... i just finished cleaning my pcv valve with brake cleaner and it worked... good luck.. try it your self before you pay if you want to safe some money...
my 04 sentra used to have a problem starting but ever since I started getting 93 gas from either Shell or BP it stopped. But now I have to get something with my gas tank fixed because whenever I get gas my car decides to literally throw some of it back up. its kinda funny but annoying.
ok for everybody with this problem. there is a fuel pump repair kit that nissan dealer sells the (tsb) technicall service bulletin number is ntb05-052a, in adition theres no point to buy a new fuel pump cuz new fuel pump doesnt come with the problem fixed so please refer to the tsb bulletin, it will show u the parts that u have to buy y around 300 dls, hope this info helps
U know my aunt and uncle has got the exact same kind of vehicle and it did the exact thing today serveral times must just be something about that model
Probably a faulty check valve or regulator inside the fuel pump module assembly. To check if it is fuel pump module related is to install a fuel pressure test adapter in the fuel line where it connects to the fuel injector rail and hook a fuel pressure gauge to the adapter. With engine running it should be close to 44 psi fuel pressure. Shut off engine, If pressure starts dropping to 20 psi or less within 15 to 20 minutes, the pumps bad. Just replaced 2 of them on two separate 2006 Sentras.
mine does that too...i had the regulator replaced by nissan, it fixed it...then 3 months later it did it again...so i replaced the battery and problem still occured!! wtf nissan!
sounds like a manufacturer problem to me i have 2006 1.8 automatic sentra.
2007 and 2008 Nissan Versas are known to have starting problems as well, 2009 and up seems ok for now. Don't know about the 2007+ Sentras though.
Toyota Corollas 2003-2008 have fuel pump issues as well, with the same exact symptoms, so I don't know if they share the same part or same design and/or engineering of the fuel pump module.
I have the same issue with my Nissan Sentra GXE 1.8L too. It's still giving me problems. When I park the car overnight in the cold Minnesota weather, it does the same thing. But I get it to start by bitching at it and changing some parts; spark plugs and battery and doing what @2004NissanSentra suggested: "turn the key to run until the pump relay deactivates then start"-- Whaola! Goodluck.
@chiripillito no, it's the fuel pump. You should definitely clean both the throttle body and intake manifold after you put in a new fuel pump though, I found out the hard way.
when starting these cars (i have a 95 and 96) i get in turn key till i hear pump tart then when relay clicks off ,you hear it under pass side dash then turn to start, try it if you dont hear the sounds that is helpful too
@zone30303 i have a 2004 nissan sentra and my car did the same thing i had a new fuel pump put it and it fixed that problem..idk about its but my car dies while driving..now its just not safe to drive ..but the fuel pump did solve that problem for me
Ok, have an 04 sentra, if you turn off and start within about 20 min, starts fine, starts a few hours later as well fine, half hour 45 min is when the problem happens, fuel pump replaced twice, two injectors replaced, battery new, def a pressure problem, stopped for a while after each fuel pump replacement, wondering if fuel injectors being bad screwed up the pumps and since the most recent pump was bad before i replaced injectors, new fuel pump finally fix it? thoughts?
There is a check valve in the fuel pump assembly that holds fuel in the fuel line so that fuel is readily available to the engine. This valve fails and allows that fuel to slowly drain back to the tank. The reason you have to crank the engine for a long period of time is that the fuel has to be pumped from the tank all the way to the engine- may take 10 seconds or more. - fixya.com
The fuel pump basically needs to be rebuilt with redesigned parts, you can only have it done at your Nissan dealer
That is a common problem on that paticular model Sentra. I think that model runs from 2000-06. Its probably the fuel pump. There is a rebuild kit for the fuel pump if u don't want to replace the whole unit. Its been 2 years since u have posted this video, I sure the problem is fix now. If it isn't the fuel pump, then what was it? Other than that, Sentras are really good cars to own.
i replaced my cam sensor and my sentra with the 2.5 stopped having the start up problem. also there are a few recalls on the sentras call your dealer and have them check for you. you need your ecu reflashed and the foam in your ecu removed
my 04 sentra was doing the same thing after i spent $500 having it looked at i found the problem o and every 1 i took it to was wrong . try tighing the camshaft and crankshaft position sensor wires . mine still does it every once in awhile but if u turn on the key let everything turn on the start works perfect every time
I have a 2001 Nissan Altima gxe with the same exact problem but if i try and crank it too many times, it starts sounding like the battery is dead. It's also become REALLY cold outside lately and that's the only time it does this. Please if anyone can help me let me know.
Instead of trying to start it three times, just turn the key to the ON position (when all the lights come on in the dash) several times, and then try to start it.
I have the exact same problem with my 05 1.8s. It only happens when the engine is warm. This problem is worse when the car is parked on a hill. Back when the car was new, I remember there was a recall on something within the fuel system, so I took it to the dealer and it's had this problem ever since they worked on it. I've seen service bulletins that talk about a fuel pressure regulator, or even the fuel pump, but I've also read that other people say none of those fix it. It's embarrassing.
My fathers has the same problem, when its hot it doesnt crank, or on a hill, does the same as in the video. Clearly its almost everyone having these issues
@ndel687 lol i feel ur pain..a new fuel pump fixed that problem for me.i put 600 into my POS and its sitting in my driveway for a good 5 months now.it doesn not run right..car dies while driving now it wont let me drive past 45mph..damn i love my car lol
@oVanessa25o after a pump change the fuel filter and check the fuel pressure regulater on the fuel rail, try a new rotor and cap as well they can trick you best of luck
@Peattie61 the filter and pressure regulator are already built into the module in 2002 and up, ignition is distributorless 2001 and up so no caps and rotors either.
@oVanessa25o they're awesome cars except for their fuel pumps, should've recalled them because it could stall the engine without warning and cause a wreck.
@2004NissanSentra I finally said goodbye to my 04 nissan sentra and am finally saying goodbye to all nissans from now on.I took my car to the dealer where I paid 2200 and another 120 for a cat converter and another 500 for a new rack n pinion and still needed front struts and transmission looks like its going to fail as well.To much car trouble for anyone to have to deal with.I am happy to say I got me a 2011 hyundai sonata and an not looking back =)
if you ever have any problem with your car let me know after all i did spend over 3.000 trying to fix mine and in the end it was running good =) fyi i thought it was the fuel pump as well and turns out it was the throttle body unit and valve system.i hope you dont have such bad luck like i did with my sentra.she will be missed though :/
i have a 01 n my sis has an 05 same thing happened to both but the 01 was easy to fix, i just took out the starter n just got it rebuilt, or you can try to just clean it out
sounds like fuel delivery if you guy would use fuel system cleaner yah would not have that propblem i use the lucus fuel system cleaner in my 94 nissan sentra 190,000 miles and still running strong
i got 2004 Nissan Sentra SE-R model and i also have the same problem... Not ofternly but sometines it takes time to turn on engine but sometimes, its just normal.... Any suggestions ? Is sentra models have [04'-06'] models had any re-calls before ?
i have the same problem with my 02 sentra. i think i know what you can do so that it doesnt do that when you turn it on. when you turn the key in the ignition, dont immediately turn it all the way to crank it. turn it to where your dash lights and radio come on. then after a second crank it. take your time turning the car on. dont rush it.
HOLY SH*T, I have EXACTLY the same problem with my 2006 sentra 1.8S. My friend just told me that it is normal for all nissan sentra... Honestly, I dont really like my nissan.
I have a 2003 Nissan Sentra GXE with 115,000 miles. This EXACT same thing is happening to me! I used fuel injector cleaner and throttle body cleaner a couple times. It definitely helped but the problem comes back after a few days. Taking it to Nissan tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed.
no, theres enough electricity, if theres none, there would b a click click click sound. this however, has a fully charged battery sending enough electricity to the engine to start up.
this problem is common on nissan sentras 2003-2005 an also altimas but to prevent ...just turn key to on position an wait like 18 sec then start..just dont rush

If you hear the ignition click but it doesn't start, the chances are that you have a faulty starter solenoid.
