I actually just had to punch out less than 8mm in diameter and was spot on so there was no issues with the edge of the hole. i used a jeweler's mm/cm (6" metal steel ruler) and a compass. And definitely thank you about the heads up on the flash, i don't use flash much anyway so it's good to hear that someone doesn't recommend the flash hole.
Thank you for the video, it gave me confidence of having the hole punched out. I actually had my coworker give me tips as to how to measure it and see how the phone aligned with the stitching as well as determining the thickness of the interior leather. So I used my jeweler's compass (basically all sharp metal compass) and had the center measured out and made marks with the compass then after measuring 5 times i drew the circle. then went to a tack shop and had it punched out.
Very useful video thanks. I am waiting for mine to arrive and I think I will just punch one hole for the camera (and leave the flash) based on your comments. Have you tried brown shoe polish to darken the pink spine on your case? That might work. Thanks for taking the time to create the video.
@MrNaimgil yes it hasn't darkened much at all. I did apply a leather conditioner after chopping the lens hole, and so I wonder whether this has actually protected it from darkening. Here's hoping this will change with time!
very cool. thank you for taking the time to show us how to do this. I am debating between this and the smaller Hex Code Wallet. I want to do the same thing for the Hex, but there's a plastic backing between the iphone and the leather. If you get your hands on that case, please let us know if you are able to do the same thing to it. Or... you should consider buying them in bulk, putting the holes in them, then reselling them. I wouldn't mind paying more to save me from doing it myself.
@MistaRobotto Ohh I hadn't seen the Hex case before. I'm glad I got the BookBook though as I like the whole idea of it looking like a little book and the worn vintage leather look is pretty cool. Also the card holders inside with the see-through section is a nice touch, but each to there own. When hammering through the BookBook there was an extra layer that wasn't leather, so I'm sure if you got the Hex case that the hole punch would have no trouble creating a clean hole through it! Good luck
@DarjeelingTea Not yet and to be honest I probably won't now. I just made the edges a tad tidier and then used some Pecard Leather conditioner to help protect it all.
thanks so much for your video, I wanted to do the same thing :) now I know how I can do it. Did you get around to make the edges of the holes tidier?
I want to buy the case, but what I recognized is that the newer one's are quite pink colored :-/ the first versions back in july/august where not so "pink" :(
@Fa1986 You're right, the current batch of cases are really pink! Hopefully with lots of handling and age it'll darken but it was a little disappointing initially.
I haven't tidied the hole up yet. In fact I made the hole a bit bigger the day after filming this as when the flash is being used there is a haze over the whole picture which didn't appear during the filming. My partner has a very similar Belkin (I believe that's the manufacturer) wallet case and I matched their hole dimension...
@virtualgeezer ...(basically two 10mm holes side by side). Annoyingly the haze still occurs, and after testing her case as well it also does it on that too. I thought it might be because of the white iphone as the flash bleeds badly in the surrounding case, but it turns out the haze also occurs with the black iphone too. So If i could go back I would only cut a hole out for the lens & leave it at that. If I wanted to use the flash I'd pop the camera out bookbook stylee! Still love it though!
@virtualgeezer: sorry for my late answer....oh ok, godd to know about the haze effect. quite strange that it occurs to the belkin case too :-/ actually I'm waiting for my book book case to arrive here in germany, I ordered it the second of november, twelve south seems to have trouble to produce the cases due to super high demand. Gonna make only one hole for the camera lens as you said, no hole for the flash isn't such a big issue I think :) thanks a lot! :)))

"Other catalogues are available", love it. I quite like he distressed look where the holes compliments it's rustic/distressed look

For some reason, your book book seems different. The binding seems way too aged, while the cover seems untouched, when it is supposed to be aged.

I'll admit. I'm an American and all that math and cutting, rather pay someone else to do it.

Why wouldn't they stitch that in the case themselves. Its a $60 case for cryin out loud.

I got this case today. It's nice. Was thinking I'd take it to a leather shop and have them cut an elongated oval for both

I'm going to give this a shot. I rarely use the flash, but have a flashlight app that comes in handy. Did you ever seal the edges from the punch?

Do you know what the model number is for your case? Is it 12-1110 ?

@supersi35 Sorry for the delay, yeah my BookBook case is exactly that 12-1110.
