They are placing the brand name in the minds of their target audience (in this case mothers) and attaching emotional connotations to that brand name.

I think the point is advertisers go all out to create a subconscious emotional link to a product. Instead of describing why the product (in this case peanut butter) is superior to other similar products they create a subconscious emotional link by making a commercial that shows an outlandish situation where a mother sends her daughter a jar of peanut butter. Interesting side not concerning this topic-..i have developed the habit of reading ingredients in products now. I had a jar of Great Value peanut butter from WalMart, containing high fructose corn syrup, and crap.the Jif was actually ok
