The irony of this tragedy is that Alaska cut corners to save money and this accident caused them to lose multi millions. It disgusts me that a company is so greedy that they wouldn't even spend the time and money on lubricating an essential screw. I for one will NEVER fly Alaska Airlines again.
What a joke America is that no one went to prison over this corporate greed. Yes, the pilots were absolute heroes, but management was pure scum that were allowed to get away with murder.
Totally agree these pilots were heroes who went down swinging. Never even thought about the fact they decided to go in early over the bay if something happened.
For flights alaska 261 and Aeroperu 603 were the only pilots that fought to the last my friend lost a relative on 261 and my fiance lost an uncle on 603 both flights were lack of maintenance and negligense alaska to save money and aeroperu under supervision staff
Despite the fact that they crashed and everyone died, these pliots can be considered true heroes. Never once did they loose their cool, and never once did they give up despite the fact after the tail broke it was almost enivitable that a diasaster would occur. But the fact that they tried absoloutly everything, even going as far as flying a non-suitable aircraft upside down, and taking the noble decision to bring it down in the bay to protect lifes on the ground as well. Incredible! R.I.P!
even if there werew parahutes it would be impossible to open any of the doors during flight!! there is over 20,000 lbs of pressure keeping the doors shut due to a preasureized enviornment in the cabin!
they could depressurize easily if they wanted to. But at 25,000ft, there is no oxygen to breath. So they seal the cabin pressurize it a bit and have oxygen generators/compressors to supply a pleasant supply. I am a skydiver.
You would never survive exit. Unless engines had ripped off, and you convinced the captain to depress.
Alaska Airlines should be out of business. This is no excuse. This accident should never have happened. Don't fly AMerican planes, try to avoid them at all costs. Their motto: PROFITS OVER SAFETY ANY DAY. BUYER BEWARE!
What an idiotic attitude. US made aircraft fly hundreds of millions billions of kilometres every year with incredibly low loss rates. They aren't unsafe, they're just not impervious to failure. Statistically speaking, modern Boeing jets are among the safest in the world (equal with Airbus and much safer than Embraer, Yakolev, Tupelov etc). Get your head out of your ass.
Though talking about MD aircraft.. I don't feel safe on them TBH.
Ya except there's a hole in your theory. Profits over safety may be, but remember if they don't keep the planes in good condition, they LOSE a 200,000 dollar investment.
sadly, that is a distal point in the thinking of business executives. it does not figure in the thinking, because it is overshadowed by the need to spend money they'd rather not spend, so as to keep costs right down.
this is why a lot of corners get cut and the number doesn't decrease with each successive accident.
Yeah, but that's not in their minds. As long as the quarterly financial reports look good and the investors are happy then the execs are doing a "good job" despite shabby maintenance.
In the corporate world, it takes a disaster to wake people up and let them know that things are not run correctly. It's sad, but that's how it goes. Cut corners until a disaster lets you know that you cut too much.
@GamertownUSA Safety is always on there minds (at least after learning from past experiences). Because if an accident happens , the fingers pointed at them, they lose investments, and possibly are fined based on the situation. But I do agree with you, large companies are blinded by there bottom line and think of safety as an after fact. It is given attention, but only because it's demanded from the public.
OVER SPEED!! OVER SPEED!! OVER SPEED!! The plane is inverted sir! I can't imagine what those poor people went through before they crashed. HE JUST HIT THE WATER!! F..K!!! Those pilots fought with such bravery and tried everything they could to save that plane! Wow MAINTENANCE way to go on this one huh? See you at the gate! God bless all those who lost their lives and loved ones in this horrifying tragic accident. Very sad.

We ALL know how to do a job the proper way, it is human ignorance that ignores the obvious and as a result, people die.
