  • @ziffelbrixx gotta love the shoulda woulda couldas of football huh? Can't think of it that way though.

  • 2:39 barry sanders embarrasses one of the greatest defensive players... lol

  • How can you tell me he is not in the top 5 he just made Reggie white look like a scrub.

  • I will never forgive the Lions organization for wasting away Barry Sanders. I hope the Lions never win a superbowl ever again. Imagining Sanders on the 90s Cowboys is too painful...he would have been a sheer sports legend.

  • @9ner yeah BUT if BARRY sanders was on the cowboys, he probably not be remembered as much. Barry needed to be in the Lions to show how much heart he had. although i still think today that he should've not retired too early, HE SHOULD've went to Miami with Dan Marino or with John Elway in Denver. but either way it goes, He needed to start his career in Detroit to get the respect he has today

  • @guitarsANDcars39 Good point. By the time he would have went on those teams, he would have been effective, but no where near his highest caliber.

  • @9ner and also "he would have been a sheer sports legend" HE IS A LEGEND IN THE NFL, MAN.

  • @guitarsANDcars39 After I posted my comment, I wondered what the hell was I thinking. He is a legend, and I think he does deserve a top 5. I hate how he is ranked so low because he retired early. And for the record to all the haters--He didn't quit on the Lions; the Lions organization quit on him. Period, end of story. I hope his son is just as good as him.

  • @k5thunder yep thats him

  • @macuban18 He had absolutely no offensive line, their blocking scheme was to just stand infront of the defender and let Barry run by everyone

  • oh yea and switch out emmit smith and berry sanders as much as i hate the cowboys they would have won maybe 6 straight superbowls if they had berry instead of emmit, im not taking anything away from him but if smith was on the lions he dosent even sniff the rushing record, berry would have had 25000 rushing yards and like 200 rushing tds if he was on the cowboys of the 90s.

  • he should be number 1 no doubt in my mind

  • The real GOAT.

  • zigzagging, running backwards, sideways, running around the front line of blockers instead of behind it, stutter stepping, i ran like that when i played highschool football. BUT, not as fantastically or beautifully as him. he is the greatest running back of all time, hands down. BARRY SANDERS RUNNING W/THE FOOTBALL, IT'S A BEAUTIFUL THING!

  • Its kinda crazy how they had him for 10 years and couldnt even get to the Super Bowl, not even a Championship......and he ran for over 1,000 yards every season...what a shame

  • Sometimes I dream "What if Barry had a valuable O-Line?"...then I wake up and have to change my boxershorts :)

  • I was a Vikings fan during Barry's career and still enjoyed seeing him play. Although I didn't like him getting the yards against the Vikings, watching him make his moves was great. I wish we could clone him and send him back out on the field. The best part is that he is humble and down to earth.

  • When you actually pay attention to his runs, you begin to realize that nearly every time the ball is snapped and he gets it handed off to him, the o-line has collapsed in some way. A defensive player is already in the backfield. And he still. STILL-ih-ih-hil. Makes it happen.

  • The lineman at 2:48 is like "Where.. What..? Aw man.."

  • Barry Sanders trained with ninjas.

  • 2:03 - "I tried to perfect the skill of trying to make people miss."

You damn well did, my friend. You damn well did.

  • i didn't know winton marsalis was the subject matter expert on hall of fame running backs...CMON MAN!

  • @k5thunder He's as much of an expert as burt reynolds.

  • @ViciousZeroEnder burt reynolds briefly played halfback at florida state and he's been in and around football for his whole life. this marsalis guy has nothing to do with football, probably a band nerd like you.

  • number 53 for the patriots at 2:07 went to my high school

  • @jvkcjvjd chris slade?

  • 17 -.-

  • would have a ring if he had a better o-line :(

  • 17th... are you shitting me! I'm not a Detroit fan, but top 5! Absolutely Amazing!!!

  • im the next bary sanders =) barry is beat but im sorry walter payton is better

  • @gp2daman I TOTALLY agree. Peyton is way too high on this list and IMO should be somewhere around Brady in the 20's.

  • #17? By far the most elusive player of all time. should be top 5. Reggie white at 2.42 cant even touch him. need do a over please NFL Network Peyton Manning at 8 is too high.

  • Barry Sanders at #17 is an absolute travesty. If you watch the highlights they show here again you'll notice that in almost ALL of them there was someone from the other team directly in the backfield and Barry STILL made them miss. His O-line was atrocious. If Barry had a dominant O-line like Emmit Smith he'd have crushed Walter Peyton's record for most career yards whereas Emmit would have been an average back or worse playing for the lions.

  • #17 barry sanders, are you kidding me???????!!!!!!! He should be first, there wasnt a better player that dominated their position more then sanders did.

  • barry has more ability than walter and brown, but his short career and horrible team has defined him lower on this list.

  • 2:20 - 2:40 Thats pretty deep sh*t

  • BTW uploader. Its "Copyright", not "Copywright"

  • If he would of played 5 more years which he could of, the all time rushing record would of been out of reach. He is indeed the greatest running back of all time. Imagine Barry Sanders running for that offensive line in Dallas.

  • Barry didn't have extreme top end speed, but he seemed to only require about two strides to reach it. Quickest back I've seen.

  • Switch Barry with Emmitt in the 90's and think about what their careers would have looked like.

  • @Rayman77792 Lol, yes. No one would know the name Emmitt Smith.

  • Any reason why he isn't in top ten?

  • No 17? Should have been numero uno! Let's not forget Barry played on the Lions!

  • If Barry had a halfway decent o-line or team for that matter he'd be at #1.

  • the best player never to win the super bowl....

  • Name one player like Barry Sanders who ever produced on a team so terrible as the Detroit Lions.

  • @utewbing Walter Payton. The Bears weren't "as" bad as the Lions, but they were pretty bad for many years when he was on the team.

  • @rattlehead9127 They had a solid defense for years though, and their offensive line was never as hollow as the Lions. Walter became that playmaker that gave them enough for the playoffs and a superbowl in 85. The Lions were way beyond anything that even Walter Payton, Jim Brown, or anyone, could have done. Barry Sanders is right up there with any of them.

  • @utewbing I agree that Barry will always be considered one of the best RBs ever, I was just saying that Payton did a lot with nothing for a long time.

  • he's the best running back of all times i Don't care what people say hes better than jim brown walter payton hes just the best

  • @1990taylormuldoon ill give you sweetness but no way was he better than Brown, Brown wouldnt try to make a linebacker miss he would run through the linebacker. There will never be a RB as good as Brown, Sanders is the closest anyone will ever get

  • @1990taylormuldoon Not a chance in hell he was better than Walter OR Jim.

  • @1990taylormuldoon Dogmatism at it's finest. You can't win arguments with just opinions you know.

  • @1990taylormuldoon

Barry Sanders is the greatest. The numbers. The excitement he brought to the field. If he played with a decent offensive line, holy shit.

  • @idster7 Please don't troll.

  • Barry should be top 5. this is silly

  • @nattylightinacan i ageree totally.

  • @nattylightinacan Right! Especially considering they put Drew Brees @ # 9. WTF!?!?

  • @GRG313 Wrong list bro. The list you are talking about is best of 2011. Brees should be higher than 9 on that list.

  • Too much musician. Who cares what he had to say?

  • @jln55 Some people have interesting things to say.

  • sorry, but who chose him to talk about Barry? He's a great musician & all, but I wanted to hear FOOTBALL, from Jim Brown or a coach/football expert talk about Barry's contribution. This is just a load of geek BS analogies that really mean nothing. If I wanted to hear about trumpets, fine. But here, it's stupid. Nothing more irritating when ppl in one field try to compare ppl in another field to THEIR field. Egotism. Like Dane Cook referring to Shakespeare as the Jerry Lewis of literature. Dumb.

  • 2:42

    Reggie White whifffff

Emmit Smith can eat his heart out. Barry Sanders. Enough said.

  • 2:37

    Derrick Brooks whifffff

    John Lynch whiffffff

  • Should be much higher. They guy played his career on crap teams and still managed to put up amazing numbers.

  • #17? Seriously?

  • Is this a joke #17 For Barry Sanders? I can't be reading this right

  • number 17?? that must be a fucking joke

  • @Sage80 Oh, it's a fail troll, cute.

  • Comment removed

  • (cont) but a douche like you isn't worth arguing with, so I stopped.

  • Barry flamed the bears, Walter Flamed the Vikings, and Adrian Flamed the Lions

  • the trumpet player annoys me.

  • @Sage80 if you could understand everything he says to it's true meaning, you wouldn't say that...

  • @lineb9 no. what you're doing is assuming because you like something, everyone should. that's ignorant. I understood everythign he said, better than you, because I'm a professional musician. I wanted to hear statistics, not emoting & trumpet-playing. it's annoying when someone from an outside field explains someone else in terms of their practice. it's self-serving. get off your idiotic pedestal.

  • @lineb9 nothing he said was false, but if I wanted a music class, i'd be in one. I want to hear about football achievements. not surprising that someone like you would find this emotionally compelling. some of us are not women.

  • @Sage80 i think you are the REAL WOMAN, i mean look at u. ur getting angry at something so small. that guy just said something simple and ur getting angry. plus the "trumpet player guy" aint no ordinary musician. Wynton Marsalis has won NINE GRAMMY AWARDS, a feat you probably have never done. what he says is much more credible than ur stupid opinions.

  • @guitarsANDcars39 I don't care what he is. I want to hear about football. Everything you're accusing me of is exactly what you're doing. go do somethign useful with your life, you cunt. Milli Vanilli won Grammy's too. Only a bitch who knows nothign about music has to rely on Grammy arguments. No one's mad at what he said...it's just a waste of time. The anger is coming from douchebags like you who are whining that not everyone cares for it. Grow a pair, bitch.

  • @Sage80 Phew, you sure do like wasting 5 mins of your life to troll, huh?

  • @Chance1116 you sure do care a lot about what others think about what you like, huh? insecure much?

  • @Sage80 What are you talking about? I diden't say anything about what you think about me or your opinion on Barry Sanders haha. Idiot.

  • @Chance1116 you need to deal with life somehow.

  • @Sage80 Haha, Ok, Sage. I'll get right on that thanks.

  • @Chance1116 thanks, sweetie.

  • Barry Sanders was so fast, #75 from dallas couldn't see him at 2:46

  • Barry Sanders at 17?? Deion sanders at 34? Maybe they should do drug screenings on NFL employees too.

  • his runs were just fantastic.

  • @801liveable Some tailbacks run into the defense, some evade it. All I can say is that Barry was so entertaining to watch. Guys would reach out and barely touch him. Jim Brown was great at destroying a defense. Boy, he had power. Walter Payton seemed to have a combination of the two. So did Emmit Smith.

  • @801liveable Yeah, it's too bad he retired young to go into movies. Barry retired too young too.

  • Barry Sanders was a great runner. He played on fake grass a lot and a bunch of 16 game seasons. His own father even told him "son you are no Jim Brown." That Marsalis guy is a great trumpet player. He should stick with it. Cause he don't know nothin about football. He don't know nothin about Jim Brown. Brown was 6-3 230lbs. fast, mean and used his forearm as a vicious weapon. He gained over 12 thousand yards and scored over 100 touchdowns in 9 seasons. He is the man. The greatest!

  • to put barry at 17 is just dissrespectful

  • @cvetko5 sort of... Prime Time being so low was more disrespectful. there are a lot of great players, and when you start to cut to the top 20 of all time, it gets tough. There are a lot of great players.

  • @cvetko5 disrespectful to marshall faulk who was #70 but was better.

  • @idster7 the thing is that every1 who played the lions knew barry was gettin the ball 75% of the time faulk really good but there teams passing attack was among the greatest so it makes it alot easier to run the ball

  • @cvetko5 I think it's just impossible to try to rank players of different positions in a best of all time list, when we have the advantage of posterity to judge the outcome. A best of all time RB list I could stomach, where fans of Brown, Payton, Sayers, Sanders etc could argue about who was best ad nauseam. But to try to rank Payton to Montana? Or Sanders to Taylor? Or Rice to Butkus? It's just daft.

  • @tumppu1975 well it is very hard to rank the greatests of all time this is how try doing it..look at the impact the player has on the team if the lions had no barry they wud not have made 1 playoff apperance where as the bears without walter still make the playoffs and san fran without rice still make the playoffs or dallas without deion and emmit still make the playoffs

  • @cvetko5 He did everything a tailback could do except run right over the defense. The defense wasn't ready and he ran right around them.

  • Regardless of what anyone says the video says it all. Period.

  • Hey guys let's argue about some retired players. Let's get mad at each other while we're at it.

  • 0:36.... take notes

  • Only Arian Foster comes close to the moves Barry Sanders performs

  • @molonlave2010 what lol

  • This guy is underrated! #17? Bull shit, do what he did with a sorry ass o-line blocking... his attitude alone brings him to a top 10 then what he did brings him in at a top 3!

  • @theoneblackalbino Agreed. Another back I liked was Thurman Thomas who would run or catch a pass for all purpose yards. They tried that with barry but a lot of the time there were 2 or 3 backs covering him. Then what do you do? The lions didn't have a Michael Vick that could scramble and gain more time to pass or run for yards, Name a good quarterback that played while barry was playing. Not too many.

  • I personally think that Jim Brown is the best RB ever, then Walter Payton, then Barry Sanders. Thats just me, everyone can make a valid arguement that Barry is the greatest. Also, Ernie Davis, may he R.I.P., would have been the greatest if he didn't get diagnosed with leukemia after being drafted.

  • Comment removed

  • man he was fun to watch....

  • 2:41 he just shook Reggie White, the hall of fame dl

  • Its too bad Sanders doesn't play for the Lions today, they would be unstoppable. Finally with a qb, and wr combo, and the greatest rb ever...wow. I would hate to play the Lions then.

  • Ran backwards and lost too many yards plain and simple, don't care how bad his line was, if the play is dead in the water you take the loss, don't turn a 2 yard loss into a 9 yard loss because of the off chance you might break a huge run, For every great run Barry had he has 2 or 3 8 yard losses. Had the physical gifts to be far and away the best RB of all time if he was smarter and has better blocking.

  • @CTTMOGK Wow dude way to be a John Fox. The Lions were dead and in the water if he took the 2 yard loss or a 9 yard loss. You might as well as try to win the game yourself. The only reason they ever got anywhere was because of him. Also your "for every great run Barry had, he has 2 or 3 8 yard losses" ya is that why he has so many rushing yards in his career? Had he continued he would easily of had the record. Not only that, HE WAS the greatest, he didn't need to be smarter.

  • @724Broncofan That's why I said if he had better blockers and was smarter he'd easily be the best back of all time, yeah he has a shit load of rushing yards, he also has more rushes for losses than any player in NFL history. Was not a smart runner he was just one of the most physically gifted players ever to step on a football field.

  • @CTTMOGK Smarter?!? are you fucking kidding me? Barry Sanders was one of the smartest running backs to play the game. He led the league in rushing losses because he had one of the worst O-lines in history and was running for his life every play. Barry could have owned the record book, but left the game because, according to him, he had lost his love for the game. He was an artist. A true genius of our time.

And you are probably just another Emit Smith fan.

  • @badmutha00 No he wasn't one of the smartest running backs of all time, and that statement is absolutely laughable. You're taught to run North and South in football, goal line to goal line, you're not supposed to run sideline to sideline because it loses yards and wastes energy. When a play is stopped at the LOS you take what you have, you don't turn and run 4 yards into the backfield and take a loss you didn't need to take because you're trying to break a big run.

  • @CTTMOGK That's fine for a normal team, but the lions sucked and needed an extra special player to make incredible runs to win games. But he had very little help from the other lions. Come on, how often do you see a back go left and find 3 defensive players waiting there for him? So he'd find another hole. A lot of players would get a little hold on him, and he would just go past them. he would go the other way because most of the defense was coming through offensive line.

  • @CTTMOGK When a back could run and maneuver like barry, he'd get to the other yardline with everyone behind him chasing him, and would Make The Play. Henry Aaron held his baseball bat backwards, and it worked for him. Barry couldn't just run into the pile and take a loss, he was so maneuverable that he made plays that other backs couldn't.That's why it helps to have good vision, like a quarterback looking for an open receiver. Barry made plays the way no one else did.

  • @CTTMOGK He was the best period. Who cares if he had the most losses? Which I have never heard so I doubt until you show me some facts. But even if he did, he played on the worst team, and he still managed to make the playoffs. He was the best, you don't have to play on the best team to make you the best player.

  • @724Broncofan Barry Sanders leads the NFL in most yards lost. His OL was terrible. So yeah, and anyone who really knew Barry would know this.

  • @CamWake091 I never said he didn't have a terible OL, I said he had the worst. But again I stand by that to be the best player ever you do not have to have played on the best team. However I don't believe he had the most yards lost, ya he lost some yards, but plenty of players did too. And if this is true, you should have NO problem finding plenty of sites that state this claim as fact.

  • @724Broncofan dude you need to get a clue. He DOES hold the record for most yards lost by a RB. It's not even close. Walter Peyton is second. It's around 1100 total yards lost.

  • @doggieGZ You need to get a clue idiot, Barry Sanders is the best running back ever, even without the line. You need to show facts dumbass. Have you not gone to school...ever? You can't expect people just believe you. Are you in the 2nd grade? Show facts. I don't give a shit about your dumbass opinions or "so called facts." You saying he isn't smart is the dumbest thing ever.

  • @724Broncofan I'll break it down for you slower, since you're clearly not that bright. You said "I don't believe he had the most yards lost". But contrary to the failure of your brain, Barry Sanders DOES have the most yards lost. 1,114 Negative yards. 1st All Time.

  • @doggieGZ His OL was terrible. I bet all the others RB's that have records are glad he had that line so he couldn't beat their records. If the line was better nobody would stand a chance against Barry.

  • @sanders2054 He's probably my favorite player of all time. I remember how people would watch the Lions no matter how bad they were doing, just to watch him play. BTW I love 1:24. He makes John Lynch fall to the ground without even touching him!

  • @sanders2054 Certainly Emmitt Smith is one of those guys, with Larry Allen a part of that monstrous OL.

  • @hart7668 Emmitt Smith was a good back with a lot of different tools working for him. He ran pretty fast, if you tried box him in he would run away, and if you hit him he had enough strength and toughness to keep someone from bringing him down. Good all around back.

  • @sanders2054 No doubt about it. I was watching 1 anouncer ask a retired player commentator how many yards Barry would get if he had THE HOGS as his offensive line. He said oh at least 2,500 yards a season. I think the hogs were Redskins offensive linemen, but I'm not sure.

  • @724Broncofan There's no congratulations in order you dumb fuck, no one is writing a paper or a bibliography, you acted like an arrogant prick about over a well known fact you were wrong about and now that you've been proven wrong (for about the 5th time) you're trying to backpedal after hurling around insults about how smart you are and how stupid other people are, fuck you, go back to school.

  • @CTTMOGK do you know how long it took for him to finally show me some proof? Well known fact? I watch espn everyday, and NFL network most days. That has never once been said. Btw the site he showed me could be rebuked because it said he was the 2nd all time rusher, when he isn't :(

So you are a retard. You are the asshole.

  • @724Broncofan Cry more.

  • @724Broncofan It didn't take anyone long to find it at all dumbass, just because you THINK you're a well informed sports fan and you didn't know it you assume it can't be correct but it is, and it's VERY well known, do some research from now on before you open your mouth, and don't insult people when you have no clue what you're talking about.

  • @724Broncofan Where does it say he's the 2nd all time rusher? WHERE'S YOUR PROOF IN BIBLIOGRAPHY FORMAT!?????!??!?!?!? By the way, he was the 2nd all time leading rusher when that video was made, you dipshit.

  • @724Broncofan loolllllll deleted all your comments? What a pussy.

  • @CTTMOGK No you idiot this is my last comment b/c your retarded. Me and that kid made truths.

And I was setting you up for a trap btw in regards to my last comment by saying it said Barry was 2nd when he isn't. You replied as I expected with he was when the clip was made, and I was going to say ah, so it is old therefore if someone passed him on the all time rushing list someone could have passed him on the most negative yards rushing as well. Find a recent clip if its common knowledge.

  • @724Broncofan You need to find a video or citation stating someone passed him, I don't need to find a new stat sheet. I proved my point, I don't need to prove it again, you need to prove me wrong. It's funny you talked about how people shouldn't go into science or people like you would "rip them apart" and yet you clearly lack an understanding of the basic scientific principle of the Burden of Proof. Why don't you read up on what that is while you're looking for those stats?

  • @doggieGZ He lost so many yards because the lions had a poor offensive line. the other teams started to triple team him just to stop him. That's because wayne fontz used him all the time and Barry was his best weapon besides Chris Speilman, Herman Moore (6ft 4 inch tall) receiver, and Mel Grey as a kickoff returner. I've never heard of another back that needed to be triple teamed. When they tried an extra back to block and run, the defense ignored the second back and tackled Barry.

  • @724Broncofan Agreed. Barry was talented enough to break the rules and improvise. That alone confused the other teams because you never knew what he would do, or where he would turn upfield. Any player can just run right in into the hole the play called for, but barry would just find weaknesses in the defense during the play. So many defensive backs would just miss getting a hold of him and he'd keep on gaining yards.

  • @metalfiend124 Ya, no one has ever had moves like Barry Sanders, and we probably won't ever see them again.

  • @CTTMOGK You're dumb. Barry Sanders was the only guy scoring touchdowns for Lions. If he didn't try and find a way to get some yards some how then the Lions would have gone 3 and out every time. Barry Sanders is the greatest running back of all time, its just unfortunate that he had a owner that didn't care about winning as long as people came to see the guy. GET SMART!

  • @CTTMOGK yeah but after the 2,3, or 8 yard loss, he would go like 20 yards later

  • @CTTMOGK Bzzzzzt! Wrong! Most of the time he got the ball deep in the backfield and defenders were already in his face. He had to make great moves just to get back to the line of scrimmage. He was all the offense the Lions had. The line was terrible, the QB position stunk, and most of the WR wouldn't scare anyone. If it was any other RB in there at that time, their career would have ended early. Barry was simply one of the greats of all time.

  • @Banzai51 He didn't get the ball deep in the backfield most of the time, in fact he got less balls deep in the backfield than a player of his style usually does because the Lions insisted on running between the tackles instead of running sweeps and misdirection plays, yes they ran plenty of them but not as much as a player like Barry usually gets run for them and not as much as someone like Barry should have got run for him, half of his problem was plays not being called that suited his style.

  • @CTTMOGK agreed. Give him a little space and he'd be gone.He turned so many plays that with anyone else would have been a loss, and he would turn it into a 5 yard gain. Could you imagine if Barry had the same line as Emmit Smith and actually had a predictable hole to run through? So many times he'd hit the hole and it had defensive linemen there already, so he'd try another route. I don't think I ever saw a lone defensive back stop him, he'd just find a better lane and gain yards.
