@KawaiiKurei1 it depends on where you are. for my league, you must be 18 or older. however some leagues are 21+ and there are also Junior Derby leagues. check with your location
Is it any easier to learn these moves on rollerskates if you are already an ice skater who can cross over, slalem and do something similar to sticky skating on ice?
I have to dominate sticky skating to pass my fresh meat on tuesday! The bobbing up and down like someone mentioned earlier really does help! I actually cried today at fresh meat because i could not get Sticky Skating at all. Then one of the girl's told me to just drop my ass up and down.
She's not kidding when she says your thighs aren't screaming in pain, they're screaming in beauty! I've only been in derby for a month and already my thighs are lookin good!
It's the sound her skates make as she's doing a T-stop, from scraping the wheels against the concrete. Your comment makes you sound rather uneducated in the ways of roller derby.
That was the sound of her wheels scraping the pavement as she did the T-stop. if you'd watched the vid on stops in derby, you'd know that's what she was doing.
The pro skaters all use the 5-stride so skaters do not accidently kick or trip one another in the pack. When skaters use strides that are not in harmony with the others, people are tripped, fall and get injured often. The 5-stride is the basic skill for all derby skaters no matter what position they play.
I just found this vid! I know it's a month later, but can you explain the 5-stride method? I've been skating on a derby team for about 5 months now...never been taught this. Thanks.
I havent skated for 6 years, I don't remember how I mvoe my feet D';

Another helpful thing for sticky skating is if you find you can't keep your speed up, try bobbing up and down, moves you along faster.
Also I've watched all this chick's videos, she is a total master at stopping on a dime. Great vids.
