I'm from Bolton but I don't talk like this at all. I think it depends upon your parents i.e. where they were originally from, who you mixed me and other criteria. I grew up with a lot of people from the north Manchester area so that's probably why I don't sound this broad.
@1DannyOAFC1 I actually think Bolton is LESS upbeat. I think it's more abrupt, forceful and "stroppy" and a little unsettling, compared to, say, the neighbouring Bury accent which is more gentle, slower and more soothing.
@GrandDizzy I think this bloke and a few other Boltonians (Peter Kay, Vernon Kay etc...) all sound more upbeat than your average Burnleh accent or whetever.
Being Lancastrian mesel' accents sound grim where I'm from (Oldham pronounced Owdum) and around Burnley etc... like I've said. Can't remember having an actual conversation with someone from Bury, talked to Wiganers and they sound very grim. I would be aswell, if I came from Wigan mind.
im from Bolton ... yeh xxemmaxxtaylorxx that annoys me i went down to skegness and they all kept asking me to say 'garlic bread' but the thing is though my accent is a mixture between blackburn and bolton so i dont think it sounds like that
it's clear enough to understand, but i can't deny it's not an easy accent for someone who's english is not the first language !! but it's not that hard at all .. actualy i find it really cool :)
I have a bolton accent! And just moved up to york for uni! one of my flatmates is geordie and the other american! it took a good couple of days to understand what we was all saying! but come on! a Bolton accent isn't hard to understand!....especially when as soon as you say you are from Bolton people request you to say "Garlic Bread" over and over!
I'd really appreciate it if Americans and Canadians were a little more specific, I'm pretty sure you would not need subtitles to understand what I'm saying, whereas on American T.V. Scottish accents are often given subtitles as they can't be understood by most americans, neither can welsh accents. Whales and Scotland are also a part of britain, and the UK includes Northern Ireland. So please say English rather than british.
I live in maine, but i grew up in south carolina. its odd though i havnt got a southern or yankee accent. Ive actually picke up a somewhat english one. but im special for it. and just to let you know. neither i nor my friends speak through our noses. just letting you know......
Lol I'm from bolton and I talk like this at school - where everyone speaks half posh, half not. If that makes sense, lol. Anyway, they keep saying I have a yorkshire accent, and I'm just like how the hell can it be yorkshire when I'm from bolton?!
I'm american, and for some reason, most of us sterotype people from Bolton saying that they talk really funny. I don't think they talk funny at all. I think it's quite cute. (Danny Jones *cough* McFly)
Hi! am from england n knowone talks like that! Americans think we all speek powsh but we dont we talk like you but without the longs parts on the end of iche word. Thanks I love Americannss..xx Fromm Lottieee.x.x
The Yanks = renowned american NASAL accent, Squeaky, high pitched, speak through nose. REALLY noticeable when yanks say a slang word of theirs like "Weiner"
The English = Regional accents, soooo many completely different. Some dialects not as clear as squeaky yank NASAL accent.
Hugh Laurie as Dr.House simply speaks through his nose to imitate american NASAL accent. People from southern states are hard to understand as are ghetto people... need Subtitles.
Umm...Southerners are portrayed in Hollywood. Quite a bit actually. And who decided to group the Carolinas and Georgia, those are very different accents. The South has many different accents: Lousiana--more old style, Alabama, South Georgia--kind of redneck, Tennessee and North Georgia--more country, Texas--very soft, Carolinas--more neutral, Greater Atlanta Area--dealing with way too many Yankees.
Clearly your in no position to comment then, ive been to london and i think i met like 1 person that actually had the posh brit accent, everyone else just sounded slightly cockney. Bloody northerners all think us southerners are posh!!
Yes we are a rather barren little rock stuck out in the north atlantic. But we have a shed load (or barn as i spose you yanks would call it) of accents. There was some guy on here doing a load of examples of them a while back, try and find him.
No, because this a western Lancashire accent. He lives in Bolton (north of manchester) But his accent is more like the chorley area (South of Manchester) Newcastles alot further north and has a very different accent.
Yeah i know i was saying that the geordie accent is the best and you can trust it. I know he doesnt come from around newcastle. I wasn't talking about him as was sayin wat i think the best English accent is.
wow!! why is everyone so harsh on these comments?? be nice ppl!! im english and i dont think u should say things about anyones accents.. deanbush was mean but so is sarahjayneadams.. lay off the americans!! and dont diss my accent either lol

I do feel as if you're oversimplifying American accents by allotting them only two categories. However, that's not a bad observation.
AndrewTraceur 2 years ago 2
lol...
So in America theres these accents:
New England, New York, Carolina/georgia, Deep Southern, Texan, Louisiana, Great Lakes, Midwestern, California
And you're going to call it a renowned nasal accent?
And people from southern states are only hard to understand because they aren't portrayed in hollywood, so you as a Brit aren't used to it.
Eetaq 2 years ago 3
