I REALLY WISH KICK OUT THE JAMS WAS RECORED AND PRODUCED IN THE STUDIO, AND ON PUT ON AN ALBUM, SO THE SOUND WOULD BE CLEANED UP , INSTEAD OF ALL THE DISTORTION
There is a sort of studio version of the song its off their Thunder Express album... theres no distortion but still alot of energy, the thing is its only like a minute long
@jetrage69 Well, at least you have 'Back in the USA'...
Just compare the relatively tame version of 'Looking at You' from that 1970 album and the original "A-Square" single version from 1968. This single was perhaps one of the most exciting studio performances they ever recorded. If you like feedback and microphone leakage, that is...
The single version is on 'Babes in Arms', 'The Big Bang', 'Thunder Express' and 'A-Square (Of Course): The Story of Michigan's Legendary A-Square Records'.
Lol I fucking love the beginning of this song. I wish I could set the beginning as my ringtone. It be freaking epic. You're in a store and all of a sudden you hear..KICK OUT THE JAMS MOTHERFUCKERS! Greatest thing ever.
I am going to kick your ass. I do not care about bands. I am Ann Arbor. I am Detroit. I am going to kick your ass. Put up a little front. You are weak. And, I, am going to kick your ass.
people don't know. they just do not know. Meself, Riverview Michigan. But I did a have a super badass band in Lincoln Park. The Brigands. We are still unconquered. We are who we are.
I had no idea that this was originally done by MC5. I had heard RATM's version. Found out a ton of shit about MC5 on "Metal Evolution" on VH1 Classic. Pretty Awesome. I need this show on dvd.
@wallofvideo The first for SURE is dumbass crap, the second mostly so [with the possible exception of weed], and the last one...um, never mind the last one...;-}
@MkDragan1 would you say you lean more towards the sentiments expressed in merle haggard's song "okie from muskogee"? it's from the mc5 era, but it's anti-revolution, anti-dope, anti-free sex.
@wallofvideo That comment made me laugh out loud, because when Haggard conceived that song the band bus was driving through Muskogee and they were all smoking good bud and were high as kites [true story!]
@MkDragan1 far out! that's the first time i ever heard that! so merle & the strangers were being ironic when they sang "we don't smoke marijuana in muskogee"?
Technically, this song was released almost a full year after the Beatles released "Helter Skelter." However, Blue Cheer released Vincebus Eruptum quite a few months before that. Then, after it all, came the Stooges. Let's just call that time frame of about 5 years the most innovative, heaviest period in musical history. And, God Bless Detroit.
@mussman717word ha yeah, although listening to Anaal Nakrath I'll reserve judgement on the 'heaviest' tag, yeah it's all heavy for the time, but it's nothing compared to the jump in heaviness that happened in the 80s when death metal and hardcore turned up. Although yeah that owes a fair bit to those guys, just check out Entombed's cover of this song.
Also, I'd argue that The Stooges could be just as loud and crass as anything in the '80s (even though I love some of that era's underground output). The difference was in the tight-psych-blues structure.
@mussman717word I agree. When I watch Metal Evolution, I am reminded again about how much I love hard rock and punk, but I hate Metal! What are you gonna do?
but that also means that M=E/(C5)....when clearly M is equal to Mach Number which is V/a, and a is equal to root(gamma*R*t) So this means that MC5 is Supersonic?
My Dad said Detroit was a crazy place to grow up in in the late 60s and 70s... he said it was dangerous, but sort of "dangerous-cool" where u didn't know if you were going to go out that night and party and fuck some chics or get in a bar room brawl or take some acid and end up walking the railroad tracks til morning. Thank God him and my mom saved up enough money so I could grow up in the suburbs of Detroit, but it's still fun to go downtown and party
i was 6 my grandpa who doesn't know English played this song for me and i was :O and that day i realized the 60's had the best music and i was born at the wrong time
I don't really understand why this song rocks so much. Please don't hate me, I think it's better than most crap from nowadays, think it's just a bit overrated or something
@Artokaas This song was off the charts back in 1968. Starting a song with "motherf--kers"? Musically they were mediocre, but 5 gave us a helluva charge in Detroit back in the day.
