Obviously RIP Sir Jimmy, but these trains he promoted were a huge step forward for struggling British Rail at the end of the seventies. Remember a Newcastle to London journey time of 3 hours was very impressive and few cars, if you could get away with this type of speed, could better 125 mph.
At 0.17 Jimmy says '...where you are not tied to your seat'. Quite ironic if anyone has heard JS's confession of how he dealt with 'trouble makers' when he ran nightclubs in Leeds. In the Louis Theroux documentary he said: "I tied 'em up in the bloody boiler room...til I was ready for 'em'...I never threw anyone out of my clubs...in the end they were begging to leave''. Just like when travelling on the old Inter City trains! Howzabout that then, guys and gals?
@Squab1972 I hope he wasn't the paedophile many claim he was. Read 'Jimmy Savile death of a showman' article on David Icke's website. I don't want to believe it but it is thorough and substantive
I must be too young to remember trains having a waiter-service. Cheers, Thatcher!

That cooked brekky looks lush! The closest you can get to that on a train these days is a sandwich and a kitkat for about £10

RIP Intercity 125. You don't see a train service like that anymore, and Jim ain't going to fix it either.
