To everyone who's complaining about Nadia not being fat enough for the role- what makes Nadia's character is her poor self image. There are skinny girls who look in the mirror and still think that they're fat. That said, I think that casting a thinner Nadia can actually make her poor self image more evident. Though a heavier actress might be more appropriate and conducive to the sarcastic lines in the script, I think that casting someone thinner gives a new depth to the character.
My problem with this is Nadia's size, as I see many others have noted on. I understand seeing yourself as fat, but when others are making fun of her size as well ("I don't have the advantage of it being way out in front of me"), there needs to be size there. I understand that Ivy and Nadia have a lot of back-and-forth, but comments of that magnitude are not directed at thin people, plain and simple. Sorry.
I don't think there's a problem with her performance. She was cast in this role, and I believe she did well with her character. Her director obviously saw something she was able to bring to this character that others were not. Yes, her acting may have outweighed her vocals in this particular piece, but I don't believe there's anything wrong with that. Playing a role differently from the original production is, and never has been, a bad thing. And all of this is coming from a very 'big girl'.
I wish she were playing the cello like in the original, or pretending to. If she's just sitting still, it's more like she's sulking than taking comfort.
Really nice voice, and I like her level of emotion--it's downbeat, like the music.
Clearly... whoever casted this show, was not obese. This girl is NOT fat. But she has a nice voice. I understand the whole concept of how you don't need to be fat to think you're fat... But this role was meant for a large girl.
She has a nice voice and she sounds great in the lower register. But she is rather unsure when she has to use her head voice or simply go higher. That is something to work on but the basis is there and is waiting to be improved. You go girl!
you don't have to be fat to think you're fat. especially when you live with someone who is skinnier than you and who is constantly making you feel bad about your body
I see where you're coming from, being someone who has had self-image problems (who hasn't?), and I understand that living with Ivy could've impacted Nadia's self-esteem, but the girl who plays Ivy in this production isn't herself much skinnier than Nadia. So even if that was the message they were going for, it's sort of lost in some questionable casting choices.

@agentnuzzy You know, that might be the most insightful comment I've seen on this video so far.

this is just my opinion, but i dont think she grasped the fact that her character is supposed to be upset...
shes just spitting the lines out, the way she learned them.
my friend grace did this same song at my school and she showed emotion. it was beautiful

i just cried...because this sucks so much

Her face seems to be showing enough, but seriously where is the emotion in her voice? She sounded bored the whole way through.

"I don't have the advantage you do of it being way out in front of me."
God, the irony in that line just kills me.

i couldn't of said it better myself. it should be more about a girl who lacks confidence in her physical message.
