I was lucky enought o be working on Garden Island when they blew her up in cockburn sound (not melbourne of course) and got to watch from the naval docks, was quite a sight!
Came across this vid as dad used to be on the Melbourne :) And have since found out he is actually steering DE 48 in this footage so thankyou very much for uploading this :)
Derwent at 0.26, took some parts off here the day before she was towed out and sunk. Have on VHS DE49 in Cockburn Sound when they let the warhead off (Was it a "Standard" warhead?).
Can't believe they let me go on the scrounge with no oppo, radio, nothing, bloody big holes through the ops room.
To the turkeys who smashed some of those nice ER guages, you fools.
